I need some sage Sega advice...

Recommended Posts

I will soon be the owner of a Mega Drive/Genesis and Master System... :yep::clap::woohoo:

And I just wanted to know which games would you recommend for them?

Since I have nearly all the Sega Smash Packs, games like Sonic and Golden Axe are not my top priority...

Is it true the Master System is NOT region locked?

Does anybody know some sites that sell old Sega games? :erm:

And of course the next step is getting a 32X and CDX! :deranged:

Toejam & Earl is a complete blast, but I do think it's safe to consider it a two-player game. You could play it alone, I suppose, but I doubt it would be as much fun. Also, it's more fun to play so the levels are different every time.

And why isn't Michael Jackson Moonwalker on any of those lists?

Sonic 1, 2, and CD

How much are Mega CD "consoles" worth these days?

I must get one of those someday for myself...

I actually have Toe Jam & Earl on Real Arcade, it's a shame they don't those Sega classics for sale anymore... ;(

Why hasn't anybody mentioned Dyamite Heady? I heard it was good!

I saw some Mega CDs and 32Xs on Ebay for almost 200€ each! :frusty:

And luckily I found a few auctions on Ebay Spain with a few games...

Hmm, is Story of Thor or Soleil worth over 10€ each? :erm:

Because it actually isn't.

Also, to whoever mentioned Moonwalker - it was quite good, but not really outstanding. I tried to just mention really outstanding, fun games.

Jesus, what kind of search you doing? Mega CD (IIs) are usually around £25-35 on ebay. A Mega CD I will probably cost you a bit more - maybe around £45-50.

There are many sellers in Ebay Spain that overcharge for old games and consoles, some sell carts (without the box or instructions) for 20€!

Can anyone confirm if the Master System is region "free"?

Well, in terms of gameplay it isn't outstanding, but it's got a lot of kitsch value, what with the dancing people to death, looking for little kids in closet, and Michael's "yow" before the levels begin. It's worth at least checking out during a drinking party.

No confirmation on region free stuff. Ironically EA stuff (Skitchin, Buck Rodgers, ,General Chaos and Road Rash 2) is compatible with any region.

Also a lot of the very early Megadrive releases work on any consoles (I eswat and Decap attack taht were american and they worked fine)

If you want to make your megadrive compatible with japanese games all you need is a saw or file and some patience.

You should purchase all the bitmap brother's stuff (Speedball 2, Chaos Engine, Xenon 2 and Gods) if you don't have an Amiga.

Good luck on getting any of the Shinning Force games or Gunstar heroes for under twenty quid=impossible.

Do not under any circumstances buy Street fighter Champion over Super Street fighter. It is good but they balanced the fighters better in the Super version and it actually makes it enjoyable to play as the bosses.

Was Bubble Bobble on the MS mentioned? As far as I know it was never released on the Megadrive...

That is a great little find.

Although it doesn't mention the way I 'adapted' my megadrive to run Jap games...

Shame about the Amiga as the versions of the Bitmap brother games are superior on that platform.

You should be able to pick up Speedball pretty cheap on Ebay... Optionally you could try this place:

http://retropassion.co.uk/retro/online_store.php?os

It is a bit short of stock at the moment... But it does have Micro Machines 96, which supports eight player action, no adaptor needed.
