jp-30 Posted May 20, 2004 The one piece of "gaming" software I spent more hours on above anything else in my teenage years was an amazing stunt / simulation / movie making thing by Disney called Stunt Island. At its most basic it was a flight simulator, and you had to fly stunt missions to progress - eg. Land on a moving train, fly through a barn, rescue a man on a lighthouse. And while that was amazing fun, the game came into its own as a "stunt creator" & movie maker, where you would set up your own stunts, then fly them, film them, and then make them into standalone movies. The favourite scenario I made was landing a gliding space shuttle on a runway, while 2 fighter jets escort you down and fly off as you touchdown. All this was on the old 386. Anyone else have this game? I've always longed for a sequel. In a sequel's absense 3rd party mods / models / model creators have appeared for the original, which is pretty cool. More info: Stunt Island on Gamespot's 'Unsung Heroes' list Hmmm. Reading the E3 editorial, seems like The Movies may be right up my alley!
Huz Posted May 21, 2004 Sounds worth a look - I see it's available for download on that site we weren't allowed to mention on that other place with the adventure games and the bickering about an inconsequential reputation system, so I might give it a go tomorrow. jp-30 Posted May 21, 2004 Yeah, it's a DOS program, so I don't know how it'll go in XP or whatever you're running, but DOSBOX can probably assist if there are issues. I might grab a copy myself & relive some memories.
MrHoatzin Posted May 21, 2004 Sortof like The Stunts - the game where you could make your own racing course and race against the computer. Old thing for DOS. It is known under different names...
jp-30 Posted May 21, 2004 Well, kind of, except more flight-sim based - though you could make cars & motorbikes & trains perform stunts too, by a simple scripting language that kept their altitude at zero. The real fun was in camera placement, flybuys, tracking, panning etc, then splicing it all together in the film room.
Kolzig Posted May 21, 2004 Sortof like The Stunts - the game where you could make your own racing course and race against the computer. Old thing for DOS. It is known under different names... Stunts is a legend, me and my buddies created some really crrrrazy tracks in the past for it. The other name for it is 4D Sports Driving Actually all the 4D Sports games are classics, I've had them all. And still have.
Marek Posted May 21, 2004 It amazes me why no one has thought of re-doing Stunts except with gimmicky things like real-time physics models blah blah. It could be really great. Of course, it would need the option to upload your stunt movies to a website.
Jayel Posted May 21, 2004 there's a stunts-like game coming out soon that lets you create your own tracks. link to gamespot screenshots Looks like they've been playing too much Stunts!

But then there are the upcoming games: Crashday http://www.crashday-game.de/pages_e/news.htm Stunts: Final Stage http://www.mayhem.sk/ I haven't heard nothing about Mayhem's project in over a year, but Crashday is coming along nicely, except that they don't have a publisher yet, but the game looks Sweet! It can be considered as Stunts
Jayel Posted May 21, 2004 Kolzig: Ah! that's the game I was looking for. as I was posting links to trackmania screenshots, I was thinking "that's funny, they looked differently the last time I saw them"
ragnar Posted May 21, 2004 Trackmania is really crappy game, I tried the demo. I really like Trackmania and I own the game. Besides, I would much rather see a follow up to Stunt Car Racer, the best racing game ever made.
Kolzig Posted May 21, 2004 It so hard to say which is the best racing game ever, I forgot about Stunt car racer, it's also one of my many favourites. A true Geoff Crammond game.

toblix Posted May 22, 2004 Yeah, Stunts was great. Corkscrews and jumps and stuff... I also liked Trackmania too, as well, but that's just me. This is a great Stunts thread.
Kolzig Posted May 22, 2004 So, anyway... how about that STUNT ISLAND, huh? I read a review of it years ago in finnish gaming magazine, It seemed like an interesting game. I've never played it though...
StarEye Posted May 23, 2004 Besides, I would much rather see a follow up to Stunt Car Racer, the best racing game ever made. Actually, Geoff Crammond have confirmed that he's currently developing a Stunt Car Racer sequel. He's been making Formula One games for too long, and he wanted to make something new. Huz Posted May 23, 2004 Actually, Geoff Crammond have confirmed that he's currently developing a Stunt Car Racer sequel. OK, I'm slightly excited by this sentence. Is that so wrong? Stunt Car Racer on two linked Amigas was one of best multiplayer games around at the time. An up-to-date remake would be great!
ragnar Posted May 23, 2004 Actually, Geoff Crammond have confirmed that he's currently developing a Stunt Car Racer sequel. He's been making Formula One games for too long, and he wanted to make something new. I have heard about this, but last I heard, there was something with a closure of a company or something similar and that it is unknown what will happen with that sequel. ThunderPeel2001 Posted May 23, 2004 Actually, Geoff Crammond have confirmed that he's currently developing a Stunt Car Racer sequel. I've been waiting for this sequel for years! Sir Geoff returns to his roots!! Yay! Now all we need is an IK+ Pro! (Well, perhaps we need that less than a SCR Pro, but it'd still be cool!)
b0b Posted June 29, 2004 Aaaaaaaah. Stunt Island. Possibly the first game I managed to get running on my PC of my own accord - after literally several days spent messing with EMM386, DOS mouse drivers, low memory, high memory, expanded memory, extended memory et. al. It worked, and I was completely lost to the world until I managed to wade through the majority of the stunt challenges (flying a MiG across the bay, before pulling a high-G turn straight down main street between two banks of skyscrapers was a highlight..) and set up my own stunt Magnum Opus, alas never completed : a massively overambitious mission where the player chases a military convoy, dodging SAM missiles launched at them, chasing tanks/trucks etc.. I spent weeks on that, and never got all the scripting sorted (having no manual didn't make it any easier..) An amazing title though, with (istr) Gouraud shaded polys which were something of a novelty at the time? Clearly one of the all time kinds of emergent gameplay though, a virtual sandbox to seriously rival GTA etc..
rodekill Posted June 29, 2004 My friend and I spent at least one entire summer playing Stunt Island. We tried to make a whole movie, which of course, is absurd, since a movie that's nothing but insane stunts would be... actually... pretty awsome.
