  1. I hope you will find a suitable telepresence robot for Nick, but remember that there are other options too, like growing a mini-Nick brain and integrating it into a rat body.
  2. Wolfenstein II: It's a Blastkowicz

I got to the point where I have to fend off enemies in a penthouse, and turned the difficulty to the easiest. I could probably have made it through without that, if I had tried enough times, but I just wasn't having fun, especially with damage indication being as bad as it is. I'm immediately enjoying the combat more. It feels perhaps a bit too easy now, but I'm mostly here for the story and badassery anyway. I found the semi-automatic armor and ammo pickups really confusing at first. When I see a prompt for picking up armor during combat, I tend to back up and try find it again, only to realize moments later that it was probably picked up automatically. I also scour the entire play area for pieces of armor after every gunfight, and so far there has almost always been enough for full armor, so the same result could be obtained by having armor regenerate once all enemies are dead, only quicker. I would still comb the entire arena, though, because I want to find those collectibles. The health "overcharge" is mostly useless to me because I either move so slowly that the excess health has drained before the enemy encounter starts or I move so fast during combat that I miss all the health pickups. On a more positive note, I installed a silencer to my pistol and now I'm enjoying the stealth a lot more. I also assume I will never get tired of the sound that the lasergewehr makes. In fact, all of the weapons have felt good so far. I like the story and the cast of characters quite a bit, which is something I had not expected from a Wolfenstein game (I did not play The New Order).
  3. Wolfenstein II: It's a Blastkowicz

Bought it.. Only on second mission, but I'm enjoying it so far. Looks great, and runs pretty well. The laser weapons, especially, feel very satisfying. It's a shame that the developers forgot to implement any damage indicators apart from the health and shield readings because fuck if I'm going to move my gaze towards the bottom of the screen during a hectic gewehrfight.
  4. The dress illusion strike again! What is really weird is that Pierre's face does not appear blue in those pictures. Also, every time someone mentions Anna Karina or Godard, I'm reminded of this scene. I don't mind.
  5. I guess pizza counts as something I usually buy... Edit: Second one from the same batch of dough.
  6. Modest Tech: The NX Generation (Nintendo Switch)

For what it's worth, I don't usually play multiplayer games at all, but I quickly fell in love with Splatoon 2. Hard to justify buying it, though, if you suspect that it is not for you. Hopefully there will be a free weekend at some point (not sure if that is a thing with Nintendo/Splatoon). Picross for Switch is nice if you want to decrease your productivity by a lot.
  7. Super Mario Odyssey (One D, Two Ss)

I finally reached New Donk City today. This game is super fun! I expect that I will spend a lot of time looking for the moons after I have finished the main game.
  8. Wolfenstein II: It's a Blastkowicz

Every now and then, I get an itch to play an "old-school"* FPS, but after a while, I realize that they might not be for me. I'm really interested in the setting and the story of Wolfenstein II, though, so I think I will get this eventually and just turn the difficulty to easy, if I'm starting to get frustrated. * Not a great term. One with health pick-ups, a ton of enemies and minimal cover mechanics.
  9. I rarely, if ever, use leftovers of previous meals to make different meals, but I often make enough food to last me a few days. My go-to on weekdays is tomato soup. Easy to make and super tasty. Reheat, throw in some basil and croutons, and enjoy again .
  10. Blade Runner 2049

So yeah... This movie was pretty fantastic! The visuals were exhaustively detailed and just absolutely gorgeous. I liked the combination of normal and drone synth as well. It wasn't quite Vangelis, but I think that is good, because this movie is a different beast entirely. I liked how subtle the original Blade Runner was about the ecological and socio-economical disaster called Earth – for example how no one expected to find living animals anywhere, and rich people kept manufactured animals as status symbols. This was only explicitly alluded to in a couple of scenes, whereas it was discussed in Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? to an almost comical degree (including the actual title of course). Having said that, I also really liked that these issues took more of a center stage again in the Blade Runner 2049. The layers of inequality were presented in some interesting, bleak ways, for example It is not that fortunately. It is just part of the general Babel of the city.
  11. Who would have thought a year ago that the game that ticks all the boxes of the initial question would be an Ubisoft-developed Mario game?
  12. Modest Tech: The NX Generation (Nintendo Switch)

Golf Story seems fun and relaxing, which is just what I need right now. I haven't played much yet – I have finished a few quests in the caveman area – but I'm already hoping for a bit more variety in the side missions (so far most of them have been of the land a ball within this circle variety). It's not a huge issue, though, because I enjoy seeing my money and stats going up, and playing through the actual courses is quite fun. I also haven't touched the disc and mini golf stuff yet. I would have played more of Golf Story if I hadn't bought Picross S at the same time. Whenever I launch the game, I end up playing for way longer than I would like to.
  13. Guess you Steam top 10 most played

I checked this some time ago, so I remember some of the more surprising ones, but not the actual top 10. Guesses: 1. The Witcher 3 2. Skyrim 3. Metal Gear Solid 5 4. Civilization 5 5. NBA 2K14 6. Spelunky 7. Kerbal Space Program 8. Fallout 4 9. Stardew Valley 10. Deus Ex Human Revolution
  14. It seems that at least some ATMs have noisy mechanical systems. I don't know if they have managed to make new models silent somehow.
  15. Hot In Space: Heat Signature

Well, fuck. I feel like I should just start over until I find a better spot in the universe. Then again I'm also considering just giving up and admitting that this game is not for me. Clearing missions feels pretty good but has already started to feel repetitive (which, of course, has a lot to do with my preferred playstyle), I don't feel like I'm progressing much (mostly because the liberation rewards don't mean anything to me), and much of the stuff I liked at first, like traveling through space and docking, has started to get annoying to me.
  16. Hot In Space: Heat Signature

I looked at the liberation map and the stuff within my reach is mostly connected with key card cloning and teleportation. Is the unlock map randomized or is this the normal progression? I just beat an audacious mission, which was only possible because the guards didn't have armor and only emergency shields. I check the stores regularly and thoroughly loot every ship I break into, but find it super difficult to find weapons to deal with armor and shields. I guess I could try to avoid all the guards, but I'm not a big fan of how sneaking feels like.
  17. Hot In Space: Heat Signature

I'm yet to get over the Hotline Miami mentality of taking out every guard using a wrench or (if things go sour) guns only. While I could just pause the game and try to figure out how the other equipment work, I rarely do it because I feel like I should keep the flow going. Moreover, I usually feel that the missions are either too easy to be wasting my time on advanced tactics or too hard to risk by using said tactics. I got quite far with one of my characters, bought the personal mission intel, found out it was way too difficult for me at that stage, also noticed that the only other missions available to me were hard or harder ones that required me to have equipment to deal with armored or shielded guards, which equipment I did not have nor could I buy them because of my lack of funds. This meant that I had to retire my character essentially because he went broke, which wasn't a very exciting way to end his career.
  18. I read Dashiell Hammett's The Thin Man some years ago. It was quite fun, although I generally prefer Raymond Chandler's writing over Hammett. Both writers have ridiculous depictions of alcohol consumption (Marlowe wakes up after being knocked out, his head hurts, he finds a full bottle of whiskey and drinks half of it, his head hurts more somehow), but I remember Nick and Nora's drinking being particularly hilarious. I also remember thinking that I might enjoy the story more in a film form. For some reason I never got around to watching it, though. I'll have to fix that. By the way, if we could go back to the hairdresser and a bag of poop saga for just a sec: Did Nick also tell the poop story to the hairdresser or did he remember wrong? Does the hairdresser remember that Nick also told the story?
  19. Modest Tech: The NX Generation (Nintendo Switch)

Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle is really fun. The focus on movement-based abilities makes the actual gameplay feel quite different from XCOM, and creates some delicious situations. When you manage to tackle multiple enemies, use team jump to get into good cover, shoot, and overwatch all on the same turn, it feels pretty good. I wasn't super into the structure of the game at first, namely that each level has usually 2-3 stages, that your health carries over to the next stage*, and that you are scored based on the turns you used and whether all your team members survived. I just don't like systems that make me think "I did well on the first stage, but did do well enough or should I still restart?" Fortunately, at this stage, the added bonus of best possible score for each level does not seem to matter much. I do hate the look and typeface of the speech bubbles, though... * Possibly encouraging someone, but not me, to use different characters for each battle.
  20. Divinity: Original Sin II

I liked my time with the original game quite a bit, but never finished it. With reviews suggesting 100+ hour play times I doubt that I will never finish this one either, but I'm still interested to try it out, when I have spare time from other games I'm more interested in (which at this rate, may be never). It sounds like the battles are quite difficult again. Is the progression system similar to the first game, i.e. enemies do not respawn and there is no way to grind for xp?
  21. Huh.. that seems to be just a shortened version of the latest episode with no other edits. (Seriously though, fantastic work!)
  22. The McElroy Family of Products

Just to clarify, there are several episodes of Just Like Art on Facebook already, because why would you ever want to be consistent with your platforms: https://www.facebook.com/MonsterFactoryPresents/ There is fun stuff there, but I don't fully understand the opening and the cuts either.
  23. First of all, thank you Chris and Jake for the podcast! It has helped me appreciate and "understand" Twin Peaks better. I have also enjoyed the forum discussion tremendously. I agree that whether one liked The Return or not (for what it is worth, I liked it), this was a remarkable piece of television. Before the new season aired, I felt that the only thing we could be certain about was that nothing would be certain, but even so, the season managed to take me completely by surprise in so many ways. I'm still processing what the last couple of episodes mean (by themselves and for Twin Peaks, in general), but I think that on an emotional level, at least, they were very successful. Although, the "What year is this?" line may be a bit meaningless considering how much has changed in Cooper's existence already, that delivery combined with not-Laura's scream made my spine tingle. What a frightening place to leave the series.
