  1. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Yeah, played 8 player Smash on New Years Eve, three people used standard (non-plus) Wiimotes and nunchucks and it worked fine. So I guess I need to find a storage solution for my Wii U with all of this shit coming out. What do people recommend?
  2. Job Hunting

Worked for me. Not English, but Philosophy. Another equally jobless discipline. Becoming a teacher was rad and I now make more money than many of my friends who used to poke fun at me for studying Philosophy and having no job prospects.
  3. Where in the World - Idle Thumbs Map

Tegan beat me to being the first Canadian thumb to map-up. I'll settle for second.
  4. Movie/TV recommendations

This gels with the personality of the director from what I heard. A friend of mine was a PA, and to hear them tell it Keaton's performance was pretty much based on how controlling and abusive the director was while making the film. ...this does not change that I loved that movie though.
  5. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Not streaming in Canada. Why would you do that to me?
  6. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

Listening to a Bombcast from November, Matt Rorie characterizes Dragon Age Inquisition as "It's a Bioware game. You try to sleep with your coworkers. Like, a lot." I now really want to see Bioware make a game about an office building where this is just what happens. The familiar "what if Bioware mechanics were applied to more mundane shit?" question, but in the real world. Bioware's Office Simulator 2015. I want it.
  7. Crikey, It's Christmas (2014)!

I have stopped asking for video games since my teen years. I have so little time to play them most of the time that they sit on a shelf and I just feel guilty. At least when I buy a thing and don't get around to play it I'm only feeling guilty of wasting my own money. Instead, I keep a list of board games. Got King of New York, and expansions for Legendary and Dominion this year. Also, my stepdad gifted me Shadow of Mordor the day it was cheap on Steam. That game is pretty good.
  8. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

While I admit that it's a really awesome thing that Sony does (and definitely gets me on my Vita more than anything else they've done), saying that it's a basic feature isn't really fair. There are two companies with a home console and a portable system. One does it, one doesn't. I would love it if Nintendo joined in, and a lot of the things that Sony has done over the past 5-ish years have bought a lot of goodwill from me, but it's not really something that's fair to expect by default quite yet.

    An artist's rendition of Tegan:
  10. Life

I'm on that list with Bjorn and Nach as well. I like the idea of karma and all that, but can't believe in it. That said, people like to challenge me on the basis that I do meditate. The relaxation and tranquility is rewarding in and of itself and I don't associate anything spiritual with it though.
  11. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

I just discovered that in the angel entry for Valiance in Bayonetta 2 it confirms that Bayonetta and The Wonderful 101 share a universe. This made me very happy.
  12. Feminism

Play Driver San Fransisco? That game is awesome, and I'm pretty sure that civilians dodged like crazy.
  13. General Video Game Deals Thread

GB did a quick look of it...
  14. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Did they? That's nice. I remember the joy of buying my Wii U being kinda tarnished by hours of downloading and installing updates. Nice of them to streamline the process a bit.
  15. Its beginning to look a lot like GOTY

In terms of time spent, I'm coming up on calling either Binding of Isaac Rebirth or Rogue Legacy my goty. Both have managed to successfully make me feel like I'm not wasting my time by playing a roguelike and have really managed to get their hooks into me. I haven't beaten either (though I've managed to beat both the Cathedral and Sheol in BoI, and am able to open the final door in Rogue Legacy, so that's something), but am close enough to call these my favourite games of the year. Strangely, both on Vita.
  16. The terrible wallet scourge of the Amiibo.

I am by no means a smash professional. Around level 20/21 my Amiibo have started being able to put up a really tough challenge for me. It's pretty cool to have a set of ready-to-go opponents because my friends and I are all adults and it's hard to set up a game very often. I like having a set of them there.
  17. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

The Picross E series is a bunch of bite-sized 2D picross games, $6 each with about 200 puzzles apiece. E5 means it's the fifth one, but it is pretty much exactly the old 2D Picross from Picross DS, just a new batch of puzzles every few months on a drip feed. Seriously, everyone should be into Picross.
  18. Movie/TV recommendations

Guys. Guys. Guys. Whiplash is really good. Between that and the soundtrack to Birdman, I have had an amazing few weeks of listening to music in the movies.
  19. Didactic Thumbs (Pedantry Corner)

    14, suckas.
  20. Rocksmith

You'd probably need to track down some alternate drivers somewhere to fool your PC into thinking that the mic is a Real Tone Cable (I can't remember whether their stupid name is one word or two), but other than that it sounds like it should work.
  21. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

Picross E5 just came out on 3DS...
  22. Didactic Thumbs (Pedantry Corner)

It's two days after my birthday, but I think that seeing a person on the internet use "begs the question" properly is the best birthday present I've ever received. Thanks, Gormongous!
  23. Rocksmith

My PC just recognizes the Rocksmith cable as another microphone input, so there may be hacks. I've heard of people mic-ing up an acousitc guitar to play and having that work REASONABLY well, but I don't know if it would be as accurate as you'd like.
  24. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

I thought it was just Yuen Wo Ping all along as well. His directing is actually really good. The Tai Chi Master is one of my favourite martial arts movies. If you are at all interested in seeing Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh fight each other on top of a water wheel, you should watch that film.
