[RELEASE] A Very Pretty Pipe Dream: procedural pipe photography shooter
phill replied to BluShine's topic in Wizard Jam 4 Archive
Oooh, I hadn't seen this one! Very impressive so far, interested to see what you can pull off with the pokesnap mechanics, it's a really cool idea! -
Day 3 and/or 4 Update! tl;dw I've been having fun getting the basic mechanics of the game down. Now that I pretty much have that done it's time to make some levels, develop some extra enemy AI to make it interesting, and polish up the art a looot more.

Simultaneous turns are my favourite thing. Ever play Frozen Synapse? That game was fantastic! Keen to see how you tackle it, I'm sure you're right in that there will be a few weird edge cases that will be annoying to deal with.

@Ben Xstarted after the last one finished and still made one, so even more reason to get goin'!

[Delayed] Business Guys on Planes: Conflict in the Middle Seat
phill replied to dibs's topic in Wizard Jam 4 Archive
Amazing art bigjko. I'm sure I've sat next to that dot gobbler on a long haul flight before. :s -
Holy hell your art is freakin' great! This is going to be one heck of a pretty game.
-
Shaping up well, Rilen!
-
Very cool style! I almost think that not being a professional artist means you can embrace really different art styles that are more impactful (and appropriate, in this case!).
-
Yeah damn, screen face looks great! Can't wait to see what kind of environments these guys live in.

You can join up over here: http://stingo.infinitebit.net:8001/.Be good to have another Aussie around! (: EDIT: Huh, that link seems to be broken for me. But that's from the official thread. Hm. EDIT 2: Oh, looks like it's a known broken thing. You can PM @zerofiftyoneto get an invite though.

Awesome! I can't wait to see what you've got planned

As a millennial who has sold most of what he owns to continue enjoying his daily avo smash, I'm looking forward to learning the deep secrets of the avocartel.

This is damn cool. I love seeing jam games grow up to be fully fledged awesome things! Edit: Also, so many robots

Winter Jam Along with dibs and Friends 2: The Unseeing Game Dev Choir, Conducted by dibs
phill replied to dibs's topic in Wizard Jam 4 Archive
Hey, I remembered my login! I'm in! -
This is a really great interpretation of the prompt. Some of the dialogue I thought could use contractions to make it flow a bit better as you're already using abbreviations like 'cos', so you'd think those guys would also shortcut something like "he was" to "he's". But I assume that kind of thing may come with further drafts. I'll keep an eye out to see how this evolves but if this is the starting foundations it's very strong!

Alright, I'm back, with 100% more feedback. But firstly thanks to twmac for the detailed feedback: you were right on the Amy/Todd thing, but the spelling mistakes in the initial email were kind of there to show as an early indicator that he wasn't that competent, but that wasn't obvious so I'd probably remove them in a future draft. Also thanks heaps everyone for reading. This is the first piece of fiction I've written for almost a year, so it was really lovely to read everyone's thoughts. I'll spoiler my feedback for all the different stories. As I always say with any critique I give, it's my opinion only and if you can imagine it in as helpful a voice as possible because that's how I'm trying to deliver it. Not that I think anyone would take offense, just in the past people sometimes have taken things the wrong way. Anyway, here we go! Space Boss by twmac: Space Boss: The Lord of Space (draft) by ratamero SPACE BOSS THE LORD OF SPACE by Wooben Space Boss, Ze Lord of Space by Mawd Space Boss: The Lord of Space by sbm Looking forward to everyone's efforts for the new prompt!

Sorry! I didn't mean to miss it, I'm bad at forums. ):
-
I think there were only four entries, so here they are in case people want a convenient place to see them all. Also if I missed one let me know. Space Boss: Lord of Space by Supernaturally Biased Man/Gary SPACE BOSS THE LORD OF SPACE by Wooben/Reuben Space Boss, Ze Lord of Space by Mawd Stapler by phill Er, looking at that, is there a rule that each piece needs to be titled the same as the podcast prompt? I feel bad for being the odd one out. :S
-
Here's my entry: Stapler. This was really fun! I'm not 100% satisfied with how I realised the idea I had at the start, but it was great to get back into the habit of writing. Thanks SBM! Looking forward to the next one. I've linked it because the formatting options on Medium weren't comprehensive enough to make this one legible. Anyway, spoilers for talking about it:

[RELEASE] A Very Pretty Pipe Dream or A Chill Hell or Memeify McCree
phill replied to Ben X's topic in Wizard Jam 3 Archive
A chill hell is the buffering of a Netflix video, for sure. Or really any situation where you are trying really hard to relax, but something is sticking you in a way that is completely out of your control. Like an itchy tag on a shirt you can't take off. A very pretty pipe dream could be combined with memeify mcree to produce a situation where a gruff, hard-as-nails traditionaloly masculine character dreams of one day taking up a traditionally feminine occupation. Also McCree the actual character is (imo) bullshit overpowered in pub-stomps at the moment, so you could have a character who merely has to breathe on things to blind or kill them (accidentally [kind of like a gruesome midas touch] or intentionally). -
Oh my goodness I am so unutterably stupid. Can't believe I didn't try straight lines! And all good with saves/loads, I'll enjoy going back through it. Thanks again!

[Now good to go at https://titanfist.itch.io/life-as-a-dung-beetle] Software: GameMaker: Studio, Aseprite. Holy shit, looking at the rest of these threads, you guys are good! Feeling slightly intimidated, but screw it, let's do this! Anyway, random title generator didn't disappoint and I ended up with a Terminal7 cracker. I'm tackling this game jam very casually, so I've aimed pretty simple with the mechanics and I'm going to try and make a slightly more polished final product. Spent the first day coming up with an idea, and what I settled on was a semi-clone of the (somewhat obscure) NDS game Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime. As a lone survivor of a dung beetle clan massacre, players will have a limited time collect dung (that replenishes from the, uhh, 'heavens') and load it into their little dirt cave, competing with other A.I. dung beetles for the best bits of dung. After the timer runs out, it'll be over to a separate screen where your dung bombs get fired at an opposing dung beetle clan's tower. Rinse repeat until you've destroyed their tower (or they've destroyed yours). Anyway, as of now I've gotten the basic movement and dung falling/collecting going on (dash to be tweaked): I'll update when I have some more progress!
-
Thanks! I am no musician but I made the music just last night using beepbox.co, you should try it out! I should really have explained things a bit better for the interactions between collecting dung and firing that dung from your tower. That and, y'know, any kind of positive feedback from collecting dung and firing it, other than eventually winning the game. I may spend some time juicing this one up as an exercise though. Since the mechanics are so simple it might be a good example! Anyway, thanks for playing I really appreciate it
