Just beat the game on Normal! Was down to 1 Grid Power and 2 mechs by the end, it was quite tense. I hadn't really thought about how it stacks up to FTL, but I think you're right. I really don't find myself caring about my mechs or this story as much as I cared about my spaceship crew in FTL.- 35 replies

Yup. And as much as I love the GTAs, the third person shooter-aspect of them are really only servicable, nothing to write home about. I like my third person shooters to have a blend of action and stealth, and incentivise moving and attacking instead of covering and defending. Quick melee-kills and slo-mo are a plus. Along with Remedy's games, I'd put Naughty Dog's games up there(TLOU especially), the new Tomb Raiders, the Watch Dogs, and Mafia 2&3. I like this somewhat grounded, down-to-earth action, where your hero is vulnerable but still a badass. Where do have to be stealthy and plan your attack a bit before opening fire. The quiet before the storm makes it all the more thrilling when the bullets start to fly. I only ever played the demo of Vanquish, but it didn't do much for me. Not a big fan of Platinum's over-the-top style, and I don't like spectacle-fighters in general.

Enjoy this Sprint Vector Multiplayer Highlight reel that I made! Over the last few weeks this game has risen in my estimation to become one of my all-time VR faves. The multiplayer is ridiculously fun. It is, however, not the easiest game to get into. There's kind of a steep learning curve at the start which means it's not an ideal "showing VR off to friends" game. Tips for new players: 1. Do all 3 tutorials, even the last one has stuff you pretty much need to know. 2. Then do the Challenge Levels. I know jumping into single or multiplayer races is tempting, but honestly they're so chaotic and messy that you're unlikely to have a good time with them before you have a good grasp on the mechanics.

Yuuuup, this is pretty great. I love the "roleplaying a mechanic" aspect of it, tho I'm no good at the actual "time trial video game" part of it. I think the closest I've gotten is slightly less than double the par time. Recorded some gameplay here: Can you actually get up on the roof, or did you remove that?

Indeed! I just watched Annihilation last night, and yup, it was one of the best sci-fi movies I've seen in a long time. I hadn't even seen a trailer prior to watching it which was good because I really had no idea where it was going, and it's GOING PLACES alright. I just found out that writer-director Alex Garland also wrote Enslaved: Odyssey to the West! I loved that game! And also he secretly directed Dredd! I like this guy.

Same. I got 5 episodes in before I gave up. I'm glad they're trying to do something different than the old show by giving Arthur more backstory, but none of it is particularly compelling, or funny. I was happy to give Serafinowicz a chance, but he just pales in comparison to Patrick Warburton's Tick. Also watched Jean Claude Van Johnson's first (and last) season. It's pretty weird and all over the place tone-wise, but I liked it.

Watched the Nintendo Direct this morning and my reaction is eeeeeeehhhhhh. Eeeeeehhhhhhh, I say! Just a bunch of ports of games I've already played, plus a few new games that I don't wanna play. After I'm done with Golf Story I feel like I've played all the Nintendo Switch games I wanna play. All 5 of them. I mean, sure, they were 5 very good games, so I don't regret buying a Switch, but still. :| -
Yeah if you didn't even feel like finishing FC3 you didn't miss much with 4 and Primal. They were just more of the same. Primal in particular mostly just stripped out a lot of stuff from the previous games without replacing it with anything interesting. I hope FC5 will shake things up a bit and break out of the formular FC3 set, but so far I haven't been blown away by the gameplay footage. Glad to see they're improving vehicle handling and adding planes. The vehicle handling has pretty much been the same since FC2, which is to say "perfunctory". They did add in auto-steering already in FC4, good for drive-bys. I miiiiight get it on release. I did love both FC2 (for it's wonderful depressing mood) and FC3 (for it's sublime stealth-action gameplay, and the wingsuit), tho I've been less and less impressed with the later entries.

In my Steam library I've had the following games sitting half-played and unfinished for a long while now: Hitman (2016) Hollow Knight House of the Dying Sun Shadowrun: Dragonfall DC Snake Pass Strafe Undertale And yeah, I would be a bit ashamed to give up on them, since they're good games, and worthy of finishing I feel. Luckily most of them have a quite small footprint on my harddrive, tho in the case of Hitman and it's 70GB installation I really need to shit or get off the pot. -

Plus it's a couple bucks cheaper on GOG/Humble than Steam. If anyone wants my spare FTL Steam key, let me know. I've played 2 games (on Normal). In game 2 I secured the first 2 islands but got my butt kicked in the Final Mission. Enjoying it very much!- 35 replies

Finally beat Mario XCOM today. Bwario, Bwaluigi, Bowser Jr, and Megabowser have all been vanquished. It's a good game, though a bit on the easy side. I found it got more engaging towards the end, probably mainly because the difficulty gets cranked up. Steamworld Heist still has it beat when it comes to light-n-breezy turn based tactics games. I mainly used Mario, Rabbid Peach, and Luigi for my team. Occasionally switching out Luigi for Yoshi, including for the final bossfight, which was quite tough. Up next on my Switch: Golf Story!
