I thought Cloverfield Paradox was ok. Good performances, and a lot of wacky shit happened. The problem is that too much wacky shit happened. The early revelations are like "holy shit" but by plot-twist #14 it's more like "oh? well, I guess this is happening now."

This is looking better and better. Any ETA on a release date? Every time the thread's updated I keep hoping you've released it. Is it still a free game or are you going commercial?

Has anyone finished this game yet? Does it even have a conventional story ending? I'm 4 hours in, enjoying it so far. I've managed to finish some Hard missions, and Defector missions, but none of the Personal ones yet. I wonder if it's something I'll stick with to the end tho.

Idle Weekend February 5, 2018: An Underrated Trek
Henke replied to Jake's topic in Idle Weekend Episodes
Man, this show is always eye-opening. Loved the discussion about looking critically at entertainment. I'm totally on the non-critical end of things. I take stories as just stories, and characters' values as just their values, not something that should apply to my life/worldview. But Rob's talk about how cop-shows influence public perception of police rings true. I'm glad someone is looking critically at this stuff. I have a hard time buying that this would be a preferable way of consuming entertainment tho, mostly it just looks like a good way of talking yourself out of enjoying things. -
Rise of the Tomb Raider is a very pretty game. And also I just finished it. Both the stealth-action and the actual tomb raiding are an improvement on the 2013 game. The story is... so-so. Overall it's a good time!

Naah I think it's well-balanced. It's viable enough to be possible if you absolutely can't do the puzzle the proper way, but if it was any easier to just bypass any puzzle the whole thing would start to feel a bit meaningless.

I'm very excited to play this. It's looking great.

Plenty of the puzzles allow for different solutions! There's quite a few I've done one way then seen youtubers do it another way and go "ooooooh was that the correct solution?" Here's me and a couple buddies doing the Aztec level.

You'll probably have to use US or UK DNS codes to get to that stuff. Free codes can usually be found around the net tho they don't always work well. You can also shell out 5 bucks a month for something like UnblockUS, which'll do it for you. Also it's of dubious legality. And you didn't hear about it from me. My HBO Nordic subscription is running out this week and I was thinking about giving the Amazon Prime trial a go myself (on PS4). Looks like they got some good shows on there. The Grand Tour, One Mississippi, The Tick!

I played through it solo a few months back and yesterday I finished it again in co-op with a couple friends. It's a wonderful game and I'm glad it's finally getting the attention it deserves. On the surface it might just look like just yet another physics hassle game, but there's actually a lot of thought and ingenuity put into the puzzles and levels. Nope, but I can say that on PC I felt it controlled better with M+KB than gamepad.

Someone's making a Twin Peaks fan-film detailing what happened to Annie, and they're wondering if maybe you wouldn't mind chipping in a few bucks to make this happen.

Idle Weekend January 5, 2018: The Bomb Cyclone of Podcasts
Henke replied to Jake's topic in Idle Weekend Episodes
These Idle Weekend episodes are coming out so fast now they don't even have time to post threads! Love having a new episode every week. Keep it up, guys! -
The MRAs have outdone themselves this time. I didn't think they'd be able to freak out in a more hilarious fashion than the "Cuck Ball" rant from TFA, but they've really stepped their game up. Amazing.

Yeah I really liked both the VR and non-VR versions of the game. Didn't have any trouble telling if a bullet was gonna hit me. My only complaint is that the story is pretty generic.
-
My favourite part of BSI was the songs. The first thing that comes to mind about that game is the acapella group singing God Only Knows, and the little girl singing Fortunate Son. Both versions of Will The Circle Be Unbroken are great too. Overall it was my least fave Bioshock game though.

Yeah, Shadow Tactics was great. Seconding the Commandos 2 rec, and adding Satellite Reign. It might look more actiony on the surface, but stealth is also a viable tactic for most missions, as long as you stick mainly with the Hacker and Infiltrator units.

In the Valley of Gods - Indie-film Ana Jones (Campo Santo's New Valve Game) is Canceled Forever
Henke replied to TychoCelchuuu's topic in Video Gaming
Yeah, it's a good one! I actually like the early reveal trailer more than the final one. Such a great tone-setter. That it doesn't spoil anything of the actual story is just a plus.- 124 replies

Played through it last summer. Not as good as Firewatch or TLD but definitely worth a go if you're a fan of those and find it at a bargain price. I love the narrator's accent and his dad-jokey style of commentary. I also like the way it looks and the object interactions. The narrative is kind of a mess though. The game quickly dumps about a half-dozen narrative strands on you and I'm not sure any of them get resolved in a satisfying way. The whole second half of the game, everything after , felt rushed and unfinished.

I seriously had that tune as my ringtone for like a year after I saw the trailer. Not a big dubstep fan otherwise, but I do seem to have a thing for familiar old game/movie themes getting dubstep remixes. I also loved Steve Aoki's remix of the Ghost In The Shell theme.

Hadn't seen those Stanley Parable and Dropsy trailers before, good stuff! Here are my awards for the best trailers. Best "90's newscast babble" award goes to: Best "Lynchian children's cartoon" award: Best "faux-Werner Herzog" award: Most Smoove award: The Cultural Contribution Award (for making sure every trailer had dubstep in it for the next couple of years):

Started 2018 by completing a couple VR games. Arizona Sunshine Very satisfying zombie-shootin' and a decent narrative props up this somewhat generic and occasionally clunky shooter. 8/10 Scanner Sombre Got this in a bundle and wasn't really expecting much from it, but I got hooked right away. The sense of scale VR provides works great with the caverns you'll be exploring, and it's ocassionally a very beautiful game. I could've done without the horror stuff though. 7/10
