I mean I'd absolutely jump on a project like this being organized by a regular contributor to wizjam but yeah if you have no prior community involvement and your first post is 'please work on my project, strangers," well, hmmmm.

Hey it didn't look like there was an active thread anywhere that's just like, Good Stuff to Watch on Youtube which is a thing I'm pretty much always on the lookout for. Beyond the perennially good content produced by polygon some of the channels that I've subscribed to that regularly put out good watching are: Gamemaker's Toolkit with Mark Brown - digestible dives into game mechanics that are usually around 8-15 minutes long. Also an excellent series on Zelda dungeons called Boss Keys. Noclip's documentary series is probably familiar to thumbs regulars already, but in case it's not: it's good Cool Ghosts - the Best Game Ever and Don't Step on my Childhood videos are a lot of fun TabiEats - Japanese and other Asian comfort food recipies with demonstrations, and taste tests and reviews of japanese street foods and products from places like Daiso Boundary Break - Moving the camera in 3d games to show what's happening outside the camera frustum The Gobelins School - Student work from the french animation school Anyway please recommend me more stuff to put on my queue!

Important If True 31: The Illusion of Control

Huh! I used to work at a Round Table Pizza as a teen that had a claw machine that we'd routinely clean out due to how easy it was to win. I never considered myself good at claw machines, I only considered that particular claw machine to be easy. -
Oh rad! Interested to see where this goes.

I read Guns, Germs, and Steel in college and it changed the way I think about basically everything. I don't remember if he used the word 'privilege' but he frames the concept of privilege and systemic inequity in a way that I had not only never considered but had never even been introduced to the concepts prior to that point. I should go back and reread it. Also, it heavily informs how I go about worldbuilding in my comics. Also also re: bidet, we got a $35 barebones water stream only bidet off amazon last year and now I'm spoiled, any toilet without one feels like I'm living in the fucking dark ages.

Radiolab did a stellar episode on CRISPR not too long ago. -
Are you gonna stick with that super pixelated, low res with zero antialiasing look? It looks dope!

babywall: invisible collision barriers that can be dropped to limit other players' movements within the stage horsebag: a vaguely horse's head-shaped sack worn over a peasant's head, that maybe has some good or bad effect. maybe it gives peasants horse-speed allowing them to move around the map faster, but also horse-vision, causing all items to look the same regardless of whether they're coins or petards

I have a semi-rigged lowpoly model of Nick's head (maya binary file, should import into unity without a problem) that didn't wind up getting used in Wizard Jam 3, if anyone can think of a use for it. It blinks and its mouth opens. I can export a .fbx version of it if that's preferable.

Important If True 13: "Veggie" Panino and the Nightmare Puzzler
root replied to Jake's topic in Important If True Episodes
two thoughts: 1.) the reader who wrote in about having sleepwalking episodes where they had to solve a bomb problem reminded me of a thing that I do, or did, while sleeping, according to my wife and also my family: though I am no longer religious, I was raised mormon, and for most of my adolescence and early adulthood was very devout, to the point where I spent a few years in england knocking on doors in a suit and tie to annoy people with religion. one of the things I was trained to do as a missionary was perform exorcisms, and apparently when I'm having nightmares, I will fall back upon that training to deal with whatever supernatural horrors my subconscious decided to hassle me with. I rarely remember my own dreams, but here is the thing: I am a sleep talker. when my wife and I were still dating, I would start doing the demons-out routine in my sleep and at first it terrified her until she realized that I was just having a nightmare and dealing with it using the only tools I had. I have no idea if I still do this, she hasn't mentioned it in recent years, so maybe my slide into agnosticism has finally reached my subconscious as well. 2.) I don't understand how anyone can enjoy photic sneezing. I have hayfever and I'm a photic sneezer and it's like being held hostage by your face for five months out of the year. -
I used this recipe here - http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/homemade-soft-pretzels-recipe It's pretty easy to do but does require a bit of time investment, since the dough wants at least an hour to rise and the pretzels all need to be individually rolled out and boiled.
-
In the genre of bread, my wife really likes baked pretzels so instead of only having them store-boughten I looked up how to make them and found an Alton Brown recipe and they turned out fantastic so now it's like a biweekly chore for me, so my wife can always have ready access to homemade soft pretzels. Highly endorse!

Click on this thread about Prey, it's definitely not a mimic

Steve Gaynor's been livestreaming this game on twitch over the last several days and every time I've been in the audience there's also been a handful of Arkane devs that worked on the game providing commentary about the decisions that went into the stuff Steve's been encountering. It's super fascinating (and super spoilery, obviously). -
