  1. Luke Cage as a character is introduced in Jessica Jones so you should probably watch Jessica Jones before watching Luke Cage.
  2. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

I've played through half of Affordable Space Adventures, but I'm no longer in touch with the partner I played it with, so now I'm in a weird predicament of having to find someone new to play it with, but already knowing how the puzzles in the first half work. It was really great though; really liked what I saw of it. I guess I'll play through the remainder at some point, solo if I really have to?
  3. Plug your shit

This video was made a couple of months ago, but it is 2 likes away from having 69 likes, so I hope you folks can check it out and decide if it is worthy of the sex number. Okay but more seriously, it's an episode of the now-cancelled Australian tax-payer funded esports spinoff youtube show, Good Game Well Played, featuring yours truly and my partner in organising Splatoon tournaments in Sydney. The show was cancelled at the end of January, and as such we were in fact the last guests to ever feature on it, which is somewhat bittersweet. Splatoon and esports in general is something I'm quite passionate about so I was very grateful for the opportunity to be on the show. It didn't have the biggest exposure (especially outside Australia), but I was a big fan of it and was rather upset when the Australian Broadcasting Corporation made the decision to cancel Good Game and its youtube spinoffs.
  4. Idle Streaming Community: Twitchy, Tasty

You can choose what community you want to stream to on your dashboard, just above the bar that lets you choose what game you're playing. They purposefully made it easy to change, I suppose to compensate for the fact you can only stream to one community at a time.
  5. Idle Streaming Community: Twitchy, Tasty

All right, I've set up a Twitch community for folks here. The link can be found here: https://www.twitch.tv/communities/Thumbs_Readers though unfortunately right now there doesn't seem to be a way of following or saving a community to your favourites list. Nor can you search for a community...but hopefully this page will soon be populated and can be an easy way for folks to check if people are online, without committing to following or even having an account.
  6. No worries! Feel free to enter regardless of how much or little you've played. One of the players last time was only about level 20-something and still had fun with the level 100+ folks
  7. Idle Streaming Community: Twitchy, Tasty

Yeah changing what community you stream to is as simple as changing what game you are streaming. The only issue right now is that you can't follow a particular community or save it to a list of favourites, nor is there a search feature. Needs a lot of work but I can see it being pretty cool.
  8. Idle Streaming Community: Twitchy, Tasty

Yeah I'm thinking of setting one up maybe, and that can be a one-stop shop to find all the twitch streamers that are on here? But it seems like you can only be part of one community, and I know Feeona for example has already joined something else.
  9. Yup, you can find it right here: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/113064412
  10. So this is a thing now: https://www.twitch.tv/idlethumbs/clips I guess SL128 has the stuff he wants by now but I guess he can browse stuff in here to see what's good
  11. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

I really ought to finish off Tokyo Mirage Sessions (and Windwaker HD? Maybe) before Zelda drops. I'll be playing it on the Wii U because nothing else on the Switch launch window is enticing enough.
  12. Fire Emblem Heroes (iOS/Android)

Just in case people didn't know, you can buy stamina potions (and other things like shards or dueling swords) for 100 points on My Nintendo. If you go through the app, you'll see you can only use points that you earned in-game, but on the website you can use the generic points too.
  13. Fire Emblem Heroes (iOS/Android)

I doubt grinding is necessary to beat the game on normal difficulty, it's probably for completionists who want to do arena battles and lunatic difficulties. Grinding isn't really encouraged since I think you get less EXP for beating a level you've already beaten? I guess there's also the specific training levels but I haven't looked into that much. I haven't got a single 5 star yet but like you, my 4 stars are wrecking house so far. Just makes it hard to level up some of the better 3 stars I have since they usually don't have what it takes.
  14. I think it's mostly your fondness of caps that leads him to think that way. I actually felt the same way about you (that you yell a lot) until I tuned into your streams.
  15. Idle Streaming Community: Twitchy, Tasty

I recently streamed a full play-through of Disaster: Day of Crisis. This was a silly little game that came out back in 2008 on the Wii, from Monolith Soft, the developers of such JRPGs as Baiten Kaitos and Xenoblade Chronicles. This game is not a JRPG. The premise of the game is that a terrorist group has taken advantage of a series of natural disasters across America to steal nuclear warheads and hold the US government to ransom amidst the chaos. It is not by any means a good video game, but I love it for its humour, over-the-top setting and surprisingly good voice acting, despite the generally low quality of actual dialogue. It never made its way to the American market, and didn't sell well at all in Japan and PAL regions where it was released, but I think it's an interesting addition to Nintendo's video game lineup, due to some pretty heavy subject matter and a lot of (mild) swearing. It also has some pretty sick driving sections, but below you can find my full play-through: Part 1: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/113541525 Part 2: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/113541734 Part 3: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/113541895 Part 4: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/115351592 Part 5: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/117186310 Part 6: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/118438235
  16. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

People just liked the exploration and story of Xenoblade, mostly. The combat is kinda just there, and the side-quests have zero substance to them. Xenoblade X improves the exploration by making a massive open world with interesting things to find, tries to improve the combat but ends up making it inscrutable and impenetrable, fleshes out side-quests with interesting dialogue (but they're still mostly basic MMO-style fetch quests), and tries to write a story that neither makes sense nor is conclusive. I've streamed some side-content on my twitch channel, since I finished the main quest ages ago, so if you want to just take a small bite into it, you can wander over there.
  17. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

I'm just going to post my favourite ad about a Wii U game in this thread. It's over 7 minutes long but I think it's cool.
  18. anyone else excited about Resident Evil 7?

I watched Steve Gaynor play it on stream for about an hour. Man this game is nuts! I really had no idea what to expect since I didn't see anything from the demo, and only saw snippets of trailers. The shadow/lighting in this game is excellent and is utilised well for both atmosphere and surprisingly some gameplay elements too. It's pretty neat.
  19. Nick knows me as superhiero, so may as well call me that, @SL128 Thanks for putting these together
  20. Idle Thumbs Streams

Ohhhh man thanks for casting this! Ftr I'm a Diamond league Terran, with about Platinum level Zerg and Gold level Protoss. I think Nick said in a recent podcast he had actually played recently, which is why I even thought to ask him to play. He actually already had the game installed and updated when I asked him which is why we were able to just immediately jump into a game together. edit: most SC2 commentators like to leave the production tab in the top left (until they need to change it out to something more interesting) because that's the tab that more or less tells the narrative of what is happening
  21. Splatoon is Ink-redible

Yess I still play a ton. Most of the Splatoon community these days resides in various discord servers if you are interested in the competitive scene at all. I'm hosting a second LAN tournament in Sydney tomorrow, but we should be livestreaming it for anyone not in Sydney.
  22. I don't have a lot of clips but here are a few that I took: DS1: Rats! https://clips.twitch.tv/idlethumbs/ProudFlyHassanChop Gotta focus on the game https://clips.twitch.tv/idlethumbs/UninterestedLorisJonCarnage Wrong way go back https://clips.twitch.tv/idlethumbs/AggressiveWormMVGame DS2: Second chance squandered https://clips.twitch.tv/idlethumbs/FriendlyBearMau5 Just daydreaming https://clips.twitch.tv/idlethumbs/AverageSkunkBatChest Cookie monster interrupted https://clips.twitch.tv/idlethumbs/BadCamelDeExcite That's the ball game! https://clips.twitch.tv/idlethumbs/OutstandingDolphinDeIlluminati I imagine a lot of these will overlap with other folks, but I particularly like That's the ball game, and I'm sure many other do too
  23. Idle Thumbs Streams

Well, after Nick beat Dark Souls 2, I asked him to 1v1 me in StarCraft 2 and he actually agreed! I beat him up a couple of times, then he beat up Tycho, then they ganged up and beat me afterwards :'(
  24. Modest Tech: The NX Generation (Nintendo Switch)

Hey folks, so I got the chance to play the Switch earlier today. The first thing I will say is that despite my large hands, the joycon on its side was quite comfortable, and actually felt better to me than having the joycon attached to the sides of the tablet itself. I played only a handful of games because I had to queue a long time to get to play Zelda, and I unfortunately missed 1 2 Switch, which is probably the game that most needs to be played to understand the appeal. So I can't really speak for that. I played a few rounds of Splatoon 2, which is fantastic and was being played in the local wireless mode since I played both docked and undocked. I didn't see any kind of stuttering that might have been caused by wireless interference, which bodes well for future big in-person events for Splatoon tournaments. It seems Nintendo is quite serious about making an esport out of Splatoon, since they seem to also finally have added a spectator mode, though I have no idea how the details of this will work. The new special weapons are pretty exciting and interesting, except for one specific one (the sting ray) that nobody thinks is any good at all. Snipperclips is a game that everyone on my Twitter feed raved about, and it definitely lived up to the hype for me. It's a physics based puzzle action game that involves achieving simple objectives in two-player co-op. The main gameplay mechanic is using your own character's body to cut out shapes in your partner, and using the new shapes to help with the objectives. It's completely freeform and the game never hints which shapes you should use for a particular level. It encourages active communication throughout the game with your partner, which is fun. The real-time physics adds a layer of franticness though I don't think there are time limits in the game, unless maybe there is an additional challenge mode. I played Zelda as well, like I said earlier, but I think most people know what's, up with that. It had a lot of aliasing on the TV I played on, but I briefly switched (haha) to the handheld and it was very sharp and smooth. The screen in general is very vibrant, and I can imagine myself playing a lot of games on the handheld alone. In any case, Zelda doesn't seem to be a significant improvement over the Wii U version so I'm sure I'll just pick that one up, and not get the Switch on release. I also didn't get a chance to play ARMS which is a shame, but I watched two of my friends play and it looked really fun, though as I expected, tilting the controllers to move your character is a bit difficult in the heat of battle. Having different types of arms and different characters go a long way into making this feel like a full-fledged game and not just something that feels like it belongs in a minigame collection, though. I didn't get to ask many questions and I doubt the Nintendo AU staff would know much more than what was immediately presentable. I am still not sure how the OS/UI runs, what the eshop music sounds like, or if things like Netflix will be supported. I imagine it would be an improvement over the Wii U in those aspects...Hopefully. Anyway so I like Splatoon too much not to buy its sequel when it comes out, and of course I am excited for Mario Odyssey, but until then I doubt I will buy a Switch. Snipperclips is fantastic, but I don't think that's a launch title either anyway.
  25. Best uses of vocal tracks in games

Xenoblade Chronicles X has many vocal tracks! I love many of them, despite how weirdly quirky and varied they all are. Uncontrollable; Tyrant Battle Theme Black Tar; Battle Theme/Skell Battle Theme Wir Fliegen; Overdrive Battle Theme Don't Worry; Skell Flight Theme
