  1. Job Hunting

Recruiters on linkedIn are a pain if you have a whiff of programming on your page. I have 5 months experience and no qualifications at all but I was contacted asking if I was interested in a job with three simple requirement none of which I matched. I guess even recruiters never read the job requirements? Also just in case anyone's gonna suggest going for it, I'm entirely happy where I am and if I'm right about where this job is for they'd be kinda terrible to work for.

If you want to know what picking up the meat or one of the other items in that room does...
  3. Other podcasts

Well I mostly wanted to be sure it was stable enough to run normally and mirrored most of the Android App. It's not that I wanted a bunch of features, but the syncing was odd on the web version. It could grab all my podcasts and if I'd heard the latest episode but went back no further than that so it couldn't track my back catalogue properly and it was a bit heavy and clunky to run, but that was on a crappy laptop admittedly.

Is the Pocket Casts web player solid now? I had a quick go when it was in beta and found it lacking. It seemed easier then to just use my phone with earphones inside my computer's headphones.
  5. Steam Summer Sale Spendapalooza

Yeah I plan to use that now. I think even if Valve took away all my cards for it then at least my badges page would be emptied. I have the same itch.

Less than 500 is small!? My office is 30 people...
  7. Other podcasts

Seconded on Mystery Show. I recommend the Britney Spears for the phone conversations if nothing else. Also yeah Synth, other podcasts bother me. I dropped the Moth, I dropped Planet Money for being blindly capitalist (not that I should have been surprised). I might drop This American Life if it gets worse at grating on me for trying too hard to be middle ground and disregarding things as a result. Plenty of podcasts I still listen to have troubles at least sometimes of course, they just haven't pushed me over the unsubscribe line.
  8. E3 2015

Oh I made a typo in that original post. I meant to say that was my personally feel, cause I don't go for that many of the newest big 3D games. So I've never run into trouble getting a game to work on my dinky PC except for Dark Souls. I have probably abstained from higher spec games games that I might have considered if I was more confident they'd work, but nothing that I can remember disappointing me.
  9. Steam Summer Sale Spendapalooza

They are currently working on the next installment of the Fall. I think they're taking a while because it's a long continuation. It does feel entirely like a standalone game with potential for a sequel though. So I'm happy to recommend this one and get people to play it even if their follow up falls totally flat.

Well I never really listened to more than half an episode of MBMBaM but on Sawbones there was just a bit of weirdness over how overly careful he was handling the idea of discussing hysteria in one episode. It was really offputting because it really felt like "This is the episode for the women so I should make sure not to offend the women." It was from a sincere place of wanting to be progressive but it just had such an adverse effect and I feel like he has the same lack of critical filter I talked about in the Giant Bomb thread recently.
  11. Steam Summer Sale Spendapalooza

I am pleased to see people buying the Fall. I enjoyed it a lot despite it being an adventure game, please actually play it.
  12. I felt the same so I immediately bought Sunset off of them from their itch.io store at http://taleoftales.itch.io It's unlikely Sunset can be made profitable let alone they could be turned onto keeping games as a big focus but it will at least help break even and reward good work.
  13. Feminism

Except that it is a privilege to be able to do that without it being something you're judged for most of the time. Articles like this judging how casually a lot of the industry dresses aren't that common. I'm the same, I wear just jeans and whatever. I'm not someone who divulges any real attention to what I wear, but that's absolutely a privilege. Plenty of non white dudes need to think about what they wear because they will be judged in certain ways for wearing it. But a lot of white dudes like us just don't want to think about that and are entirely able to because this industry facilitates that in a way that it doesn't facilitate people that enjoy being fashion conscious. See examples of white dudes reacting uncomfortabley to others expressing a fashion sense by dieing their hair or wearing 'unconventional' clothes. You probably don't judge these people (at least not consciously) like that, but the privilege is not having to be targeted by that judgement. EDIT: I'm on a terrible laptop so I can't quote or edit posts properly, but this is in reference to Twig's post above.
  14. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

I can't think of a better place for this so I'll put it here. Tale of Tales (not TellTale, nor Traveller's Tales), famous for games like the Path and Sunset recently posted a blogpost about the crushing Commercial failure of Sunset, their attempt to make a game with broad appeal for the sake of spreading it to a wider audience. You can read their blog post here: http://imgur.com/a/QHuMd They are currently having a sale hoping to recoup some of the debt they incurred. Sunset has gotten good praise and I also recommend the Path as a very interesting and strange exploration of a game. You can get their stuff on http://taleoftales.itch.io It's on sale for a few more hours and for another day on the Steam sale.
  15. Feminism

Isn't the idea that the snark is meant to be punching up and highlighting the privileged homogeny of the industry? Not so much that the lack of fashion itself is a source of derision.
  16. We need to talk about race

Race problems are RAMPANT across Europe now. There are whole parties like UKIP dedicated to racist agendas. It becomes a lot easier to spot if you read every instance of 'immigrant' as foreigner. There some harsh anti foreigner policies planned.
  17. Lord of the (Necro)dance - Daily Challenge!

Yeah, I can't even hold a light conversation with my girlfriend as I play so I know I couldn't properly record 'live'.
  18. Life

tegan's Canadian so I don't think the experience will be the same. Have you tried contacting Patreon about any alternative approach at all? Maybe if you have another form of ID they could accept it once you're talking to some sort of support person?

  20. Lord of the (Necro)dance - Daily Challenge!

In the case of Necrodancer, you can watch replays of your runs. So if it helps I think you could play first and then retroactively record, though I recommend investigating that first, just in case I'm mistaken.
  21. E3 2015

I agree with eot that multiplatform games on consoles is pointless... but how many real exclusives exist at this point outside of Nintendo's domain? If that's the entire point to a console for you, then surely any Sony/Microsoft console feels pointless.
  22. Lord of the (Necro)dance - Daily Challenge!

I'm not too modest to post, I just had a terrible laptop that couldn't record anything for a long time. I can probably record a bit next month.

  24. No Man's Sky

Weird. I think the Thumbs also discussed it as if combat wasn't confirmed. But I might have misunderstood them, or they might have been ill informed like me.
  25. No Man's Sky

It's not that I think it's now a super gamey FPS, but I think the introduction of combat changes the dynamic. It sounded like it was possible that this could just be an exploratory game, with maybe some crafting/resource management I could put up with. But having combat as an integral system Changes how you interact with the world. You're no longer a careful observer. Even the most restrained game with combat ends up devaluing whatever you're fighting, which feels like the opposite intent of the game. Having just watched the E3 demo I am a bit dummed that it does seem to involve shooty space combat and the 'fully destructible worlds' don't totally fill me with confidence but I'm hoping it's still a totally opt in or out type of experience.
