Minor cherrypicking gripe here but I think that thought is actually pretty inaccurate. They presumably do it because they think it works, but I question the validity of that assumption, because the human brain is notorious for drawing conclusions from roughly correlated data. I've often wondered how much decisions like this are perpetuated as the default 'We've always done things this way" mode and how much is actually a real considered and measured decision.

JazzPunk - A Retro Spyberpunk Comedy Adventure

Yeah, I'm probably not going to fix it either. It may get more annoying but for the one mission I played, I liked being stupidly frantic whenever things were happening. -
I don't really read reviews all that often (I prefer to get recommendations, watch gameplay and check wikipedia for a summary of what people praised and criticised about the game) but when I do read reviews I tend to check the score to see if it matches with my existing opinion or anticipation for the game. So if I saw someone scoring a game I'm excited for lowly, then I'd be intrigued to read why that person's opinion differed. If I was nonplussed with my experiences in Jazzpunk and then saw a review that gave it a score that vaguely equated to my overall opinion, I probably wouldn't be as interested in their reasons because I have the presumption that their reasons will match mine, and more importantly that they share a similar viewpoint to me and wont be offering a new way to evaluate the game.

JazzPunk - A Retro Spyberpunk Comedy Adventure

Just started this and played the first mission. That opening cinematic was great, I kinda wish the whole game was rendered in that style but 3D stylisation is tricky. I definitely find it more entertaining and enjoyable than funny per se (I don't mean that in a bad way). Also did anyone else find the mouse looking overly sensitive? I didn't seem to find a setting to fix it and it might be cause I had a sketchbook for a mousepad but it made me feel drunk and disoriented, especially cause it got worse at the higher tension bits like when -
She seemed pleased with it.

So, that whole Steam Streaming system, where you can get one computer to process a game and run it then just stream the video to another one. The idea being you could have a powerful computer running the game while any old laptop can be the controller and monitor for the game itself. I found out that if you're logged onto steam on two machines in the same Wifi network, it automatically just allows you to do this without having to set anything up. So I figured I'd try it out to see what it's like. First game: TF2... utter disaster. It was laggier than just directly playing on my terrible laptop, and also in a weirder way because the inputs lagged more than the actual video did. But I suspected this may have been partly because when playing TF2 it was an online multiplayer game, plus I was skypeing, plus my brother was streaming with Netflix. So I tried Divinity: Dragon Commander... and it just outright works as well as I'd want so far. I haven't actually gotten to gameplay yet cause I accidentally turned off the tutorial. But what I did get to do ran as smooth as I would with my desktop. Then I tried Transistor, worked the majority of the time. Had minor stop and starts for a bit and the performance indicating UI in the corner told me I had a slow network and occasionally some other issue I was too slow to read. It actually warned me more often than I had real issues but it still got in the way a bit... and then after a bit it just went to a black screen. I'm not actually sure why, and it just stayed black. I checked my desktop and it was running the game fine. So overall it seemed to be decent, especially cause my laptop is REALLY bad and my desktop was cheap and bought a year ago(€400, which'd be $500 range I think) but not something to play if you care a lot about latency. ...I didn't intend to write this much on this thing I tried out on a whim but well, here we are.

I actually thought this was part of the point, that if a human was working in a cake factory they don't spend all day thinking "Working is shit, but at least I'm surrounded by cake." There may be cheese but it's not something the mouse considers a treat or snack, it is the macguffin their work revolves around. I also have a special note for an especially fitting soundtrack that felt like it was numbing my mind with rapidly repetitive monotony. I am yet again confronted with the question of what parts are intentional and what is limited skill. Is the poor collision detection just a fact of the quick turnaround on the game and a programmer's limited skill level or is it an intentional enhancement of the overall broken and unsatisfying experience that the game entails?

This looks interesting, and I can absolutely see the Swapper vibe from it. I wonder if it was a conscious influence perhaps? I have a slight apprehension that this prediction for the story could become true: I can't get it right now cause my paypal's been cleared but it's on my wishlist (which basically my bookmarked 'cool games' list).

Pretty much the whole show will feel like this to be honest, apart from some particularly fast points. If it's possible I recommend watching in blocks more, even if it means watching only every few days or something. It seems like Breaking Bad was a precursor to the Netflix format of binge shows. I did also start rewatching it recently, coincidentally enough. It's my first rewatch, and I didn't realise from my first viewing how immediately a big element of the shows portrayal of characters' flaws is a criticism (whether intentionally or not) of the stereotypical male gender role. I wont go into detail because spoilers but it's interesting to realise how early this was an element of the show and think about where everyone develops later down the line.

Square enix products are on sale on the humble store, including Murdered: Soul Suspect at 75% off... while FFVII is only at 50% off. FF is still cheaper but it seems odd to me.

I feel like you need to figure out if you'd be annoyed or accepting if you pledged your money and the game never came out. If you can accept it, pledge away and support them. If you can't, don't gamble on maybe getting a game, just follow their progress and hope the game comes out anyway. Although... overly critical opinion ahoy

Sweet! I saw that it was marked as delivered just a little bit a go so I was going to say in here: Mission accomplished Thumbs.

Workflow tip: Use After Effects instead of Premiere! Real tips (though honestly if you do ever wanna animate things in the editing even slightly, I say go AE if you can) Learn every shortcut you can, it really helps. The massive list of them you find on google can look daunting but if you just narrow it down to the functions you use it helps immeasurably, especially because moving buttons are more precise than the mouse. Also predetermine your video resolution and make all your photoshop images that size. I think Photoshop even has templates that you can use when starting a new document where you could just set it to be widescreen, HDTV or whatever. If it doesn't you can look it up but... Standard definition widescreen is 1050x576 HD 780 is 1080x780 And HD 1080 is 1920x1080. The lack of black bars on the edge of the video just looks better for marginally more effort and also would automatically make all the frames fit right into the frame in Premiere. (I'm not sure if you had to reposition them the way you did do it or not). One last thing, these are good render settings for animation/a series of drawn stills: Format: Quicktime Codec: h.264 If you don't have that as an option you might need to install Quicktime for it to appear. I'm not entirely sure if you'd care to do that much as I'm also not aware of what specifically these settings are meant to do, just that everyone uses them and they're acknowledged all round as better. I'm done spouting videogeek stuff now, hope it helped!

EDIT: Frankly I think Clem is overrepresented as capable. Other people lean on her more often than they really ought to. It loses a little of the beauty of season 1 where it didn't feel like you were the video game dude that progressed the whole experience, sometimes other people took action or did stuff for you. In this series there really doesn't seem to be all that much agency in the fringe characters. Even people who are active and do things often look for Clem's support before taking action and your choice can change which active character gets their way far too often. I only realised this as I wrote all that out but I think that probably is a large part of why season 2 isn't doing as much for me.

Just finished episode 4 there Much as I enjoy the series I'm not sold on a series 3. I think I'll likely wait for all 5 episodes of it to come out and see which way the wind is blowing because this series has had its issues. I also want to know the premise of series 3. I don't want to play as Clem again unless they really change up how it'd go.

I am disappointed the title was not "The Woman in the UK".

Listening to classic Thumbs and it's fun hearing their reactions to a slightly older era of gaming, particularly in #21 where they discuss the upcoming game "League of Legends", shortened to the acronym LoL that they make fun of. Then Nick questions how many characters there'll be cause the original Defense of the Ancients had 8 and didn't give much variety. Then when Chris says DOTA instead of Defense of the Ancients, Jake makes fun of him for pronouncing an acronym as a goofy word. How the times have changed.

This is certainly true, and maybe more important to make that distinction than just trying to avoid doing either.

Yeah, I feel bad that the efforts of the people in the forum thread but I just need to put DS to the side for a while before I feel like giving another crack at it. I normally wouldn't be so annoyed but I did lose literally hours of time to achieve nothing and my time hasn't been plentiful lately.

Attempting to play Dark Souls has proven to be the worst gaming experience I've ever had. I already had to deal with nonsense when I first played through the tutorial earlier in the week, but today I was going to try it with an actual control. And after spending 3 hours going in circles to try get the controller to work I've only managed to create setbacks for myself (probably by confusing my computer with different attempts at installing PS3 controller drivers/Xbox360 interpreters). I went from having most buttons work, but the character would always run forward and not respond to the analogue sticks to having my computer entirely unable to install the automatic drivers for the controller (it think they're installed but then the controller shows up on the "Unspecified" list). I'm sure there's simple shit I could do to try fixing it and maybe get it on track again but I've already poured too much time into this to be arsed at least for now. So this post isn't even asking for help, it's just cathartic bitching about a game everyone already knows is horribly broken (though I figure at least some of the blame is on me/my desktop for the mess of the controller not working).

Ah, see I went to mixed schools all my life, my original trio of friends was me, another boy and a girl in kindergarten, so I've never had the conception of girls as being vastly different. There's still the distanced gender roles, obviously, but being friends with either gender was perfectly natural. Also about the looking, I think even if women do it too the response it garners is different because of how gender is normally treated. The minor invasive act of assessing someone's appearance is something men get sometimes but it's the default idea of how the world works for women, so it's more likely to be something they're either tired of or sorta creeped out by. ...admittedly this is not exactly backed up by anything, it's just how my brain sees the world working. And I don't really villify myself for it, just stop myself any time I notice.

Out of curiosity Griddlelol, what do you see as the distinction between you hitting on a girl and them approaching you? I'm not asking because I think they're the same, I'm just curious about where you draw the line. I personally only feel interested in dating girls I actually know rather than one I see in passing. Though I did identify with the anxiety of feeling predatorial. Mostly when I catch myself checking out random women on the street I don't like that I have to consciously stop myself.
