  1. Far Cry 4: A grenade rolls down everest

Far Cry 3 was a weird game, specially in its story aspect. At first, I thought it was completely lame, I had the impression that they maybe would make something different, more surreal, judging by the trailers. Ubi did a great job by creating something really unusual with Driver: San Francisco, so I thought they would repeat the story with Far Cry 3. So in my first playthrough that was a big letdown. However, after upgrading my PC, I decided to replay the game just for maximum graphics. I've also read an article at RPS in which the writers of FC3 said that the whole story was meant to be a big joke, that it was some sort of criticism and satire of video games. I honestly couldn't get much of the satire, or what was really funny about it, but I really enjoyed the game whan I realized that nothing of the story should be taken seriously. It was entertaining. I'm looking forward for Far Cry 4, and contrary to most of the people here at Thumbs, I'd prefer it to be more similar to 3 than 2. I don't know why, but I couldn't get into Far Cry 2. When I see all the praise for Far Cry 2 here, I think there's so much focus on it's form than it's actual content, like how great and outrageous the game design was, but I rarely see someone saying how that made it a better game. I think that when you're too involved with video games, maybe a good design idea is already something that makes you instantly like the game more, and as I'm not someone who's involved that much, maybe I can't get the same feeling. But I can understand why people love Far Cry 2 that much.
  2. Inclusion in Gaming

Thank you. Never had the right words to express this. I really have a hard time with RPGs, specially the western ones. I found them to be too complex, so many fucking options... I never know which weapon is the better one (so many stats), if I should upgrade my armor or craft a new one, how should I craft stuff, where do I get the materials to get stuff... I have a constant feeling that I'm doing something wrong. I miss Chrono Trigger, it was a simple RPG in that aspect. I remember it had an arrow to indicate that the equipment was better or worse than the one you're using. It's nice. Also, lately I've also been very unwilling to play RTS games, despite being a fan when I was younger. I think it's because I don't have time for it anymore. I think that time is my biggestt issue with playing games nowadays. I really won't play a game that in which I won't make progress if I only play 45 minutes of it.
  3. Jerkiest Main Characters in Video Games

Cole Phelps from L.A. Noire. The "doubt" and "lie" options activated his total jerk side. I remember he screamed at a little girl that had just lost her mother only because she was afraid of telling some stuff about her father. Zero common sense.
  4. Year, it's certainly exclusive. There are even some posts from year ago by a Sony employee on Neogaf, which indicates that this game has been in development since then. I hope this one is a little less demanding than Demon/Dark Souls. I always wanted to finish both games, but after a certain moment in the game you don't make much progress unless you play two or more hours in a row - or maybe I just suck at these games. Can't dedicate a lot of time in a day for games anymore.
  5. Dual audio in Games (The Weaboo's Lament)

Yeah, that's a relevant concern, specially if you're not from an English speaking country. Actually, my problem is no related with dual audio, but with the inability to have the original audio with the translated subtitles. Here the problem is when they don't offer an option in which you can have the audio in English and the subtitles in Portuguese, it's just full English or full Portuguese. Fortunately, I haven't had a lot of problems with that, I usually can understand the original subtitles quite well, but there's a lot of people that can't understand English very well but prefer the original voice acting. If I had the option, I would probably chose the translated subtitles, sometimes the translators do a very nice job localizing some slangs and expressions, I prefer this way. As for the dual audio in Japanese games, I must say that I'd prefer the original Japanese voice acting, but localization was nice, so I can't really complain. But yeah, I'd choose the original audio anytime, always preferred that way.
  6. I'm addicted to this. Been playing on my iPad all weekend. The only card game I ever played was Magic, but with some fucked up rules cause any of my neighbors never intended to learn the actual rules, it was really awesome back then. I always thought that the iPad would be a great platform for games like these, glad that someone actually gave a serious effort on creating such a game.
  7. Marty O'Donnell got fired?!?

Damn, Oni, always wanted to play this game as a kid. Does it aged well? I never played any Halo game, but Myth's music was indeed pretty good.
  8. Yes, I am. I never played Riddick or Darkness, but this game seems really good. The gameplay seems pretty solid, and while the graphics aren't noteworthy, overall this might be a great surprise this year.
  9. Nintendo 3DS

Fuck, I had zero interest in this tomodachi thing, but this video is just too glorious to ignore. Now I need to buy it.
  10. I'm totally backing this, even though I never played the original. I always wanted to, but as a kid I remember seeing those beautiful screens on a PC magazine just to realize that the thing would never run on my super old PC. Can't wait for this.
  11. Nintendo 3DS

I think it's my fault mostly. The game had some really solid mechanics, I loved some battles and etc., but I was wrong by thinking this would be similar to Persona 4 in terms of character development. I think my expectations were too high regarding the story, I wasn't too involved by it, by any of the characters. And while I really enjoyed the gameplay, I felt a bit tired by the end because of the huge and long battles. I don't know, I think I'm getting old and enjoying shorter games more than I thought I would.
  12. Nintendo 3DS

Finally finished Fire Emblem (the story only, not the paralogues). It was good, but not exactly what I was expecting. I think that after playing Persona 4: The Golden, maybe I'm expecting too much out of JRPGS when it comes to characters. Maybe I should replay it with the permadeath on - will be so painful - but don't feel like doing it right now. I also bought Luigi's Mansion and I'm loving it! It's so refreshing, specially because I never played the first game. I'm really loving the more paced gameplay, using different mechanics to solve puzzles, it feels very unique.
  13. InFAMOUS Vanaman

I hated inFamous 1, because it gives me headaches, terrible camera, tearing and framerate (yep, it's the only game to give me headaches because of these siily things). I loved inFamous 2, though. Great game, I loved the story, it's so simple and juvenile but I never felt the need that it needed to be something else. It felt like a saturday morning cartoon, those ones you start watching because there's nothing else to do and end up enjoying it more than expected. It seems that I'll probably love this third one, right? I still have to buy a PS4 though.
  14. So true. I was looking for an IPad wallpaper for a long time, was never satisfied with any I got, and then I just saw this. But I focused the image in a different way: It's so fucking beautiful.
  15. So, a firewatch, right? I can see the Gone Home metaverse continuing then. This sounds really promising, it's definetely my kind of game. Can't wait.
  16. Thi4f

    Thief: Depressive Edition.
  17. Thi4f

Haha, yep, that would be very appealing.
  18. Thi4f

Hum... I think $20 would be a better price, but if you really want it, even hearing all these comments about it, I don't think you will be disappointed. It's a okay game. It's alright. It's nothing noteworthy though, and it has a lot of flaws. It's enjoyable for some hours.
  19. Gone Home from The Fullbright Company

Huh, now I get why 2015 is the year of the PS3.
  20. Thi4f

I finished it. God, what an awful ending. It's like it's missing some scenes, hence why I don't know if they were being literal with waht they've shown or it's something that needs more interpretation. Either way, it's pretty bad. There was a neat idea by the end of the game, some area in which they test all of the skills you learned in the game, without any battle. I thought that was a nice way to create "boss fight" in a stealth game, even though this is not exactly a boss fight. But then, they ruined this idea later in the game. Well, I think I agree with 6/10 given by the press. It's an OK game, gets a bit tiring by the end, and the end is awful, so you feel like you waste a bit of your time, despite the nice visuals and entertaining first hours.
  21. The threat of Watch Dogs

There's a lot of people on the internet complaining of the downgraded visuals, and they surely seems worse than the reveal and the trailers from 2013. However, the creative director stated that the 2013 trailers reflect the final visuals of the game. I hope that's actually true, the game was a real looker, it would be disappointing if the downgrade is huge. I really disliked the story, though. I mean, "he killed my wife and child", again? Except that this time there wasn't any child, but, it's still a tale of revenge. This is getting pretty tiring.
  22. So, I saw this on GAF, I thought it was really interesting. It's a comic from Davey Wreden, the creator of Stanley Parable, in which he describes how fame and recognition isn't necessarily a medicine to someone's own insecurities. It seems, as usually said the problem is within ourselves, and we shouldn't search for validation of ourselves in other people. Also, I'd like to say that this don't seem like someone bitching about GOTYs, by the opposite, he's just expressing his feelings how his insecurity is reacting to the recognition he got with Stanley Parable. As he said: Here is the comic: http://www.galactic-cafe.com/2014/02/game-of-the-year/ I thought this was pretty enlightening to some of the insecurities that I have.
  23. Thi4f

The dialogue and the story in this game just came to a level that... I can't even... So terrible. And it seems that the writer wanted David Caruso to take the role of Garret.
  24. Thi4f

Bank heist... I honestly can't remember. Are you in the first mission after the tutorial, or in the chapter 2?If it's chapter 2: Edit: Oh, it's a preorder bonus. I guess the AMD keys weren't preorder keys then.
  25. Thi4f

I've played about 5 hours of this game, and I actually like it. It's a good game, I think that maybe the press was a bit harsh on this one, specially if you consider the traditional gaming review scale. I like that it is a Stealth game, you can't play it in any other way. If you get spotted by the guards and they get reinforcements, you're pretty much doomed. I think that makes sense, because you're some kind of super powerful master thief that can be extremely silent, in a way that no one notices you even if you're extremely close to them, but you're still just a thief, not a warrior or something. It's a way of balancing the game. Also, as the game progressed I noticed some alternative paths to complete the missions. So, despite being condensed in close environments, I don't think that the game is too closed in the ways you can complete it. One big problem is the execution: the engine could surely be better, it's not a good option for an open game. To avoid streaming, they put some wall and, to go through it, you have to do a QTE to pass them just to make time for the engine load the content. Sometimes, even this QTEs aren't enough, it needs a loading screen. And some of the walls are weird, just a bunch of barrels and wood, it doesn't even seem like you can go through it. I think a better engine for the game could increase the freedom of how you interact with the environment. The lack of a dedicated jump button is really disappointing, and I think it only exists because the game can't create a map big enough for you to go anywhere. This would really improve the game. Yeah, that's true, the sound in this game is a bit off. Sometimes, for example, I can hear my own footsteps too loud but can't hear the ones from the guards.
