I really enjoy the picture on this page.

The dog-cloning thing pisses me off. But I eat cheese so my diet should be a personal priority if I want to take any action on this type of thing.

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
clyde replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
I'm intrigued by the Humble Bundle subscription because I fantasize about having 3-8 lesser known titles chosen for people so they end up timing their conversation about them at the same time, but the reality of my personal situation is that between my itch.io feed, Warp Door, and Glorious Trainwrecks, I can't keep up with playing all the games I want to play. Also, I could easily spend $12 a month on games that will no doubt be more along the lines of what I would be interested in playing than what is curated for me. Which reminds me, I played this today and it caught me off guard in a novel way. -
For the record I've pretty much settled on trying to attribute without asking for permission; which is the most dangerous mixture of all. Oh well.

I haven't been reading that thread, but I probably would enjoy it. I wasn't being snide, I sincerely glad to see you are still thinking about the Appropriation game.

After watching a tutorial on how to recreate Doom's first level with Probuilder, I've been working with Probuilder a lot and getting much better at it. I've tried to stay away from creating architectural spaces in games because I want-to-want-to concentrate on interactions and characters, but making decisions like that tend to plug up my creative output and I'm seeing that now as I've been working on my architecture project with Probuilder on a regular basis for fun after very slow progress on character-based narratives. Probuilder is an awesome tool for me because I need to be able to build and manipulate 3D meshes and texture individual surfaces within Unity; constant go between and importing would ruin the iterative process for me. It's a great tool (especially with Progrids).

I haven't watched the video, but is there any advantage to this over using vertex colors? The results looks similar to the results of using vertex colors.

If you are talking about Appropriation it's from the facade of a building in the business district of Baltimore. But I love that you are still thinking about it.I was watching a interview with John Romero and he was talking about how the background, surrounding terrain in Knee-Deep in the Dead was from a photo of some place in China from a book and that someone eventually found it. I was reminded of all this stuff when I saw that. I'm working on two games right now. One where I am lazily stealing images from people's Flickr pages for a visual-novel (I may eventually trace them poorly or blur them a bit to lessen public anger, but it's not a priority at the moment) and another where I'm making a gallery of art where the only things I could attribute are the tools I'm using (thus far). Oh wait no, now I remember. I'm making the sound-effects with proprietary VSTs in such a way that it might be illegal, but will probably not be enforced.

The next Klik of the Month Klub (#99) looks like it's going to be fun. It's pretty much always fun actually, but this particular imbroglio is especially entertaining for me. It's on October 17th, a two-hour jam that sometimes goes over. I usually hang out in the chat around the appointed time and it's really casual and... I just get a lot out of these monthly events.

It used to be easier to browse apps by how recently they were added. I can't figure out how to do it anymore.

Here are some details on Oculus Medium which is a sculptural toy for the Oculus touch-controllers. http://www.theverge.com/2015/9/25/9393097/oculus-rift-medium-paint-virtual-reality-video I can't imagine that some form of export functionality won't be included at launch.

So has anyone here used the Gear VR? After today's announcements, I curious about its abilities. My main question is this: Can the Gear VR play 3D, 360 videos? I could see this being worth my while if I can use it to watch concerts and plays and such, but the information about content for the device seems to suggest it's limited even in this type of thing. Why would the Circus Solei performance be short? I would think either it plays 3D 360 videos... Or does not. Edit: Also, was anyone else a little bit unnerved by the Bullet Train demo? Like, suddenly I'm realizing that people are (of course) going to be getting as many head-shots on humanoids as possible in a simulation that has significantly more fidelity than ever before. Seems like VR will have more potential to desensitize violence and bolster violent fantasies. I'm not suggesting it should be stopped, but it made me pause.

Regarding mutually exclusive rights in this modern world (airplane-seat reclining), may I recommend the game we made during the Wizard Jam which was inspired by this type of issue. http://clyde.itch.io/i-know-you-are-having-fun-but-im-still-working

My understanding of it is that the 6th amendment of the United States Constitution states that american citizens have a right to a fair trial. Since the United States is supposed to be a constitutional republic, and the president of the United States is supposed to be limited by the rights given to U.S. citizens in the U.S. Constitution, assassinating american citizens without a trial is considered a significant breach of presidential powers. There's also the aspect where most americans are scary nationalists who care less and less about the deaths of people as they are more and more unlike them. So pointing out that a U.S. President is assassinating people with the same legal rights as them is supposed to have a value of alarm and shock. It probably doesn't work when the american citizen is muslim though. I agree with you though, it's disgusting that assassination of foreigners is so digestible for the vast majority of americans.

It's frustrating to me that Obama looks like a saint for inviting 14 year-old Ahmed Mohamed to the White-House in domestic politics, but isn't held accountable whatsoever for killing a 16 year-old American citizen in Yemen (Abdulrahman Anwar al-Awlaki) just because of who his father was.

This documentary provides an idea of the how the Obama administration has bolstered the use of illegal military operations that are currently under-way.

I played a few games of the Gigantic beta this weekend and it's fun and close to my desire for a new Super Monday Night Combat game, but I kinda don't want to get involved. It's got the same appeal (though there are no creeps which is something I miss), but it also looks like it includes all the aspects that will eventually obsess and frustrate me and I don't know if I want to do all that again. Class-based Lords Managements require a lot of investment.

I'm having difficulty finding it, can I get a direct link?

It takes me three times to know whether or not I'll like the song. With the exception of k-pop and college-radio, I listen to albums rather than singles. College-radio is an interesting method because they regularly put new things into heavy-rotation so I get excited as familiarity develops through happenstance.

Thanks for pointing this thread out Ben X, I enjoyed reading through it. I had seen when you first posted that you were going to go through a huge backlog and I'm not really interested in that type of thing so I stopped reading quickly. But back in July, I had zero interest in Doom or Marathon. What happened was that I came across a game called Electric Highways and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it and how difficult it was for me to explain why. I intiated a discussion about it and Josh Trevett immediately made some connections to Marathon and Doom. http://www.glorioustrainwrecks.com/node/9583 I downloaded Marathon and saw the similarities. I started wondering if I just had a nostalgic need for these blocky mazes with hidden doorways and switches so I bought Doom. Holy shit Doom is so much fun. You probably read in the other thread about my confusion with the controls, but once I settled on the newer ones provided in Ultimate Doom I was fine with them. Coming from Electric Highways, the enemy-encounters were a satisfying addition to the 3d environments, music, mood, and switch/door, navigation puzzles. I really enjoy the shooting in Doom, but what I noticed most was the haunted-mansion/secret-door level-design in Knee-Deep in the Dead. I saw in an interview that Romero designed these levels iteratively through frequent play and I think that is a big part of what I enjoy about it. the first levels of Doom feel like they are made to be capable of a certain type of intimacy with the space that could only happen from tens or hundreds of hours being spent in a few small rooms. I think that quality is one of the most interesting things about it, the knowledge of all the secret-spaces (which I am just now developing). I don't think you can get that from just running through it once though. Right now I'm enjoying playing through Knee-Deep in th Dead over and over so that I can discover all the secrets and get familiar with that space. Those first levels are these elegant relics of pop-game that I'm enjoying adding to my sensibilities.

I'm not trying to scream "reverse-racism!", but what about black people who have leveraged their ability to pass as white? I'm sure I've heard anectdotal historical cases of this. Maybe people have a problem with this too, but I get the impression that most people see it as a adaptive strategy in the face of oppression that some people have been capable of. Again, I don't have examples of this in recent memory, but if we treat it as a hypothetical, would the determining factor of whether or not it's acceptable for a black person to try to pass as white whether or not they believe themselves to be white (therefore rejecting their own context and appropriating that of another culture)? I didn't pay much attention to the story when it came out, I was still freaking out about how people were seeing a blue&black dress when I saw a white&gold one. I know that she was involved in teh NAACP, but I didn't assume that was profitable. Does Dolezal's profit from presenting herself as a black woman make it easier for you to think that it is unacceptable? Would this be a non-story if Dolezal just lived as a black woman in a Northern Virginia townhouse and worked as an registered nurse? I've been thinking about the hypothetical you cite here. I think the difference may be that when a person with dark pigmented skin and typical african body-traits comes to the United States, there is an understanding that the totality of american race-circumstances is about to be imposed on them. So they are involuntarily entering the context due to how they look rather than purposely changing their body's appearance.

It sounds like you should create a new class for lines that includes the properties you need including a reference to the audio-asset that will be stored in an array. Then you could have an array of those lines (now a bunch of instances of a class) that could be called based on checking the array of lines for a particular value or just going through the array in order.
