Humble Store has Ghostbusters on sale 70% off (that's 2.99€ here in Euroland). If you're not a fan of the movies then this won't turn you on, but it's a lovingly crafted continuation for those who are. It's set in 1992 and was written by Ackroyd and Ramis. It looks, sounds and feels authentic and was a wonderful surprise when I played it last year. I'd heard Murray's performance was lacklustre but I thought he was on great form, and the rest of the cast are impeccable. Jesus, I still get emotional thinking about Harold Ramis. Really recommended.

Dark Souls 3 {Dark souls 2 successor [Dark Souls successor (Demon's Souls successor)]} (Bloodborne's something)
dartmonkey replied to kaputt's topic in Video Gaming
How perfectly audacious! (I honestly thought Bjorn would be birthing this thread! ) 2 was my first and only Souls game. It took a while to get into but I spent 120-odd hours with it. I'm embarrassingly shit, yet the multiplayer aspects gave me some of the best gaming experiences in the last decade. But I think I've had enough for a while. If this is still a year out then maybe I'll be game (if I have something it'll play on) but I wager it'll be Bloodborne 2 before I'm ready for more Souls. -
Yeah, it always gets me down when I see the licence on K'nex. It's FINE, but I'm all about the Lego, not Coolbrix or Bric-a-Blok or whatever other own-brand version comes along. How long ago was the lawsuit? Is there really still bad blood or is Lego less popular in Japan or something? Seems like Lego Ghostbusters is already slated for Dimensions!

Dark Souls 2 (Dark Souls successor (Demon's Souls successor))

I hope you guys are readying a ridiculous thread title for that potential E3 announcement Do you think retconning previous thread titles to include 'predecessor' might be going too far?- 1284 replies

Wandered into my local dept. store and saw the boy & girl inkling amiibos. Just sitting there, freshly deposited next to a lonely Diddy Kong. Waiting. Don't own the game yet. But I do own the amiibos. Good choice?

I agree - I was rubbish without motion controls. I think a serviceable Wiimote+nunchuck setup could work though. Nunchuck controls exactly like the left hand on the gamepad, the rightstick maps to the D-pad with the motion aiming on the accelerometers. I guess they must have tried it and didn't think it worked, but duct-taping a wiimote to a pro-controller seems like a crazy workaround! Can you jump to teammates using the Pro-controller?

Don't want to miss the boat with this - I'll be looking into deals this weekend. Question: Why is Wiimote+nunchuck not supported? I played the testfire thing and it seemed it could be workable (if not optimal).

David Lynch seems utterly in love with Mädchen Amick...Wow, I just realised for the first time ever that Gordon Cole could return in TP2016. In fact, he probably will! As with everything regarding the new series, whether good or bad, it'll be interesting. But I do have a Cooper-esque optimism that everything's gonna be alright.

That timetable's super handy - thanks Tegan. I've taken a shot at a bingo card too.

Twin Peaks Rewatch 30: Beyond Life and Death

Good call. When she said the '25 years' line my wife and I jumped up and looked at each other with massive grins. Completely unexpected. Regardless of what it meant/means, it was a great moment. -
Experiencing my first taste of Humble Bundle jealousy on the EU side of the pond. Crazy that Nintendo is the first console company to get involved. Impressive, really. Hoping for the EU version.

James will be sent off on some lengthy inconsequential side quest. Classic filler :/

Twin Peaks Rewatch 30: Beyond Life and Death
dartmonkey replied to Jake's topic in Twin Peaks Rewatch Episodes
I read D-Leland's line as a way of establishing to the audience that doppelgängers are entirely separate from their real world counterparts. Bob occupied Leland, not D-Leland who's been chilling out in the Red Room with freaky eyes. Therefore D-Cooper (or D-Dale) at the end is established as a separate being from real Dale, who remains trapped in the Lodge. -
Yooka-Laylee: Rare-viving the animal duo platformer that we've all yearned for.
dartmonkey replied to N1njaSquirrel's topic in Video Gaming
True. You're right, to complete the game it's 90%. And I guess there are some pretty stringent Note doors once you get to Rusty Bucket Bay and Click Clock Wood. I guess I never really considered 90% to be unreasonable. It's only those last two worlds where they're more difficult to find. It's more of a challenge to collect them all without dying and losing the lot. But I liked the strategy that introduced - get the difficult ones first. -
Yooka-Laylee: Rare-viving the animal duo platformer that we've all yearned for.

Yooka and Laylee have slowly grown on me since the first reveal. I think the game should have enough charm to carry it, though it'll be interesting I see what fans do when Rare announce BK3y. It's interesting that I don't see much middle-ground opinion for Banjo. I LOVE the original. It felt like the absolute perfect concoction of colour, humour, animation and music. Magic. I can never understand people who say it's a bad Mario clone. At the very least it's a bloody incredible Mario clone! But each to their own. I feel like the original's perfect mix usually gets lumped in with the bloated Tooie and the obese, laborious DK64. The original BK is a game I can 100% blast through in 5ish hours. I'd say a first timer could complete it in around 10. And you don't need 90% of the notes to progress. I'd estimate it's closer to 60-70%. I also disagree that Nuts & Bolts was a tragic misstep. It has some big faults, the largest being it doesn't give you enough to do with your creations beside racing and fetching stuff, but it's a beautifully realised world and the building mechanics, animation and music are all wonderful. It just wasn't a traditional platformer. They didn't handle people's expectations well, and the game itself is hugely underrated as a result, but it really is something. Yooka-Laylee world looks to be cut very much from the same fabric as Nuts &Bolts so people should be satisfied with it. But some people are never satisfied, so who knows. I like it! -
Dark Souls 2 (Dark Souls successor (Demon's Souls successor))
dartmonkey replied to melmer's topic in Video Gaming
Woah, really? Finding out that lighting all sconces does NOT get you a Zelda-jingle and pat-on-the-back was a big moment for me. What happens now? I'll be disappointed if it's anything but revealing an insanely over-powered enemy that's been hanging unseen on the roof.- 1284 replies

Ergh. That of sort of thing really winds me up. Edit. Seriously. 12 pages. Designed as a teaching aid. It's shameful. It depresses me when this is ignored or brushed aside. It's failing at the most fundamental level and it's been sent out and deemed 'good enough'. Bah.

Assassins Creed: Syndicate - knees up mother brown

I'm in the midst of that Black Flag collecting but I've entered a very relaxed pleasure-cruise state where I'm sitting back while sailing and enjoying the sights, diving off to get some booty, sailing into the sunset, whistling the shanties, ploughing through the waves and absorbing the environment. I managed the same with Wind Waker. It's more like going out for a walk than playing a video game, if that makes sense.- 76 replies

You know, it's pretty neat that you can play almost the entirety of Nintendo's portable output for the past 27ish years on only these two consoles: Totes wizard.

Of course, I remember now. Gotta love Rare, but DK in glasses does not a Funky Kong make. Imagine if he was like Snoop Kong or Kong Brown. Instead he's Clark Kent. There must be some epic fanlore explaining how he's actually DK from a parallel universe or his twin or something. *JKO links to said fan fiction*

Is there a Daddy Kong? Feels like there should be. Lanky, Chunky...it's like trying to remember all the Backstreet Boys. Funky Kong? He must exist. Cousin Dudley, Dudley Kong.

Finished Mighty Switch Force. Great little nuggety game. Am currently banging my head against the last level in 3D World. Again and again and again. So close.
