They only come if you buy the console new (in EU or JP). Mind you, there are some BEAUTIFUL faceplates out there - why do you want boring white? Damn, I wanted SNES VC on 3DS for so long but it's come too late. I played LttP and SMW on GBA and went and got Earthbound and Super Metroid on Wii U. I'm starting a (small) collection of JP carts to play on Retron 5. They really should have launched this with the New 3DS and its SFC buttons. They must have crunched the numbers but I do not understand their piecemeal approach to VC. It should begin at launch and be supported with a couple of titles per platform per week until the ENTIRE back catalogue is available. I guess getting games recertified across all territories is an expensive ballache - that's the only explanation I can think of. Also, this is the first time I've felt that cross-buy really should come into play. Being able to play your games across the platforms would be a small box ticked and might persuade a few people to pick up the other console. The number of people buying twice must be very low, no? Perhaps this is the last hurrah before cross-buy comes baked-in with NX. Also also, why do Nintendo hide their 1:1 pixel mode? Final also, why don't NES VC games have a 1:1 pixel mode on 3DS? Stretched pixels or no, why not hide the option away like they do with the GB?

Pokemon Moon (beautiful) and Sun (more beautiful)
dartmonkey replied to dium's topic in Video Gaming
It sounds like you're after a Master Quest. I've been playing Red most of the day. I'm pretty happy with the difficulty but I haven't ever played another Pokemon. -
Pokemon Moon (beautiful) and Sun (more beautiful)

I've had a morning ritual for a few months of waking myself up by doing the UFO game (Badge Arcade). This morning there were a whole host of Pokemon badges and they all looked bland and drab and dreary. Edit. eg: I'm exaggerating, of course. The point being I don't have the beans to find out what these things are. Edit 2. I know all of these things: ...which means they're better and I'm smarter (and I'm not overwhelmed by the scary stuff made for the kidz). -
Pokemon Moon (beautiful) and Sun (more beautiful)

I am psyched for the originals on VC but otherwise Pokemon makes me realise I'm an old curmudgeon. There are too many now, they all look grey and brown and I can't be arsed with over 700 and all the mega evolution business. And although the starter 3 for X/Y were cute, I played the Ruby/Sapphire demo and was immediately bored. With Link Between Worlds pulling off 3D at 60fps, the 3DS games look lacklustre. If I were Nintendo, any PROPER new Pokemon game(s) would be for NX. If it IS some homeheld don't-leave-home-without-it hybrid, Pokemon could be the perfect launch (window) game. None of this half-arsed shuffle/snap/picross/dungeon nonsense - a real Pokemon game where you take the dungeons out with you and then come home to plug into a big beautiful world on the telly... Where's that Nintendo money-printing gif? -
The second round of Sega's giveaways is up and the process is a little different - you have to input your email address on their temp website and then they send you the Steam codes. On Sunday the games change to Gunstar Heroes, Renegade Ops and Viking Battle for Asgard.

I bought myself an early birthday present which arrived this morning: I decided that although I love physical games and hardware, I have neither the space or the money to invest in umpteen modded consoles. Plus time is a luxury and save states are my friends. This works nicely with modern TVs and lets me play any region I fancy. So far I've only fired up a couple of things to fiddle with settings but first impressions are very positive. The bundled bluetooth pad actually feels fine in your hands but the buttons are really horrible loud clicky things - I plugged in my SNES pad and won't go back. I've tested it with Castlevania II and these: No filters, only scanlines. Everything looks so good! Playing Streets of Rage, it felt really slow and chunky after the recent 3DS version. I went into the menu and changed the 'console' from EU to JP and the game shot into 60hz. The music sped up too until I reset the cart and from then on it was silky smooth. USA too. Man, we PAL gamers really got screwed back in the olden days! Thankfully most of us never knew any better. I'll report problems or anything that's particularly cool. It's slightly strange playing Streets of Rage with a SNES pad but the config on the 3DS is the same. In the meantime, 'physical' emulation FTW!

That's...generous! Only yesterday I received Mega Games 2 from ebay to play Golden Axe. This free one comes in the Sega Classics 'wrapper' with the other titles greyed out. It seems that tomorrow they'll have Streets of Rage 2(!), Binary Domain and Condemned: Criminal Origins for free too. Is this the future; the evolution of the humble bundle? Free games? How long before marketing budgets are apportioned to 'pay' players by the hour for engaging with their brand? EDIT. Storybundle have a book bundle up at the moment with some interesting things. https://storybundle.com/games

Firewatch is out! And my PC wants it so much that it passes out after the title screen! So, Firewatch is the game that is going to have me googling cheap PS4 bundles everyday until I have one. The Witness is another contributing factor, and I've been curious about MGS5 for a while. I'm sure there are other bits and pieces to check out, but nothing that I'd buy a new console for. I remember holding off from a 360 until Bioshock and The Orange Box (plus the promise of an upcoming Banjo game) tipped the scales for me back in 2007. The atmosphere and art of those games was so interesting and the anachronistic tech/music of Bioshock hooked me immediately. I needed it. I got an N64 not for Mario 64 (though I don't agree with Jake that it's an 'unmitigated, flatulent, polygonal mess' - that was the quote, no?), but for Goldeneye. That Dam level was the greatest thing I'd ever seen as a boy standing in Comet in 1997. And the music... So, in this thread we can discuss the video games that made us shell out the big dollar for hardware and what it was about them that tipped the scales.

David Lynch's Josh Brolin's Campo Santo's Fire Watch With Me: A Motion Picture Event

Sonic Dreams Collection: What Could Have Been
dartmonkey replied to softmachine's topic in Video Gaming
I just tested an old PS2 that's been sitting in the cupboard with a copy of Sonic Mega Collection. Besides realising just how awful a composite signal looks after a decade of HD, I also came across this abomination in the Extras section. A genuine Archie Comic cover from Nov '96... Canon. It's true. All of it. -
I was thinking more of 'personal killer apps', though. Mario 64 wasn't the game that made me get an N64 over a PS1. It was the obvious the 'killer app' for the console but it was Goldeneye that got me on board. Thank you for reminding me! Another justification for a PS4. If Firewatch were anounced for Xbone I would be torn now that MS is slowly sorting out backwards compatibility. Rogue Leader made me get a Gamecube, too. Stretching my budget to the limit, I couldn't afford a memory card for a month. Probably not the best way to start with a new console but, man, that game (and console) was pretty. It still is actually - I rebought the game before Force Awakens came out. I LOVE squeezing the trigger in to accelerate and finally clicking it to lock the s-foils into er..non-attack position. Speedy position? Yep, let's go with that.

David Lynch's Josh Brolin's Campo Santo's Fire Watch With Me: A Motion Picture Event

This obviously needs a vinyl release so it can be framed. Get the Merch Manager on it! Disappointed there's no tie-in FireWatch either. And no amiibo line - Pine Tree, Firey Pine Tree, Burnt Husk, Tortoise...missed opportunities, guys. You're giving money to etsy Seriously though, a limited run vinyl may be doable, no? -

Crashing after I load a New Game Guess I really need them extra numbers and Xs on the graphics card. Gonna keep fiddling with things for a bit... Edit. Damnit, sadface should be sad! Edit. Edit. Gonna switch her off and on again but not feeling hopeful. Still, helluva title screen! -

Looking at my specs, if I turn everything down to the lowest of the low, I might be able to get to the title screen. Fuck it. *preorders* -
And now: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-02-04-mother-3-will-finally-get-western-release-report Think I'll wait. Love them save states.

I made a new course! It's a Trek-inspired experiment using musical notes but I've tried to make it a little more involving than just holding right and sprinting to hear a song. Although that is involved. https://twitter.com/dartmonkey/status/693781535497977856 Man, I blasted through a 100 Mario Challenge this morning on Easy. 6 out of the 8 were auto levels!

Would someone kindly point me in the direction of the correction thread? I seem to be in the wrong thread.

Couldn't resist picking up a pal for Ness. Has anyone played Mother 3? I'm eyeing a cart with an English translation but it feels like Nintendo might put out an official version over the Wii U VC. It would certainly be a ballache to localise but I think EarthBound has done well enough for them to make it viable. And although I'd prefer The Official TranslationTM, I'd much rather play it on a portable. Has anybody had any experience with repro carts or fan trans?

After years of eyeing Street Fighter IV 3D for next-to-nothing I bought it this morning. Has anybody played it or got any tips? So far I'm really impressed at how they got this on the handheld as a launch title. I've Beaten Arcade mode with Ryu, and I've just googled how to throw. Beat-em-ups are a huge gap in my gaming - they look lovely but I've never been able to get down with one. This seems approachable though, especially with the Super/Ultra moves mapped to the touchscreen. Side note. How difficult is it to map button icons to the Moves List instead of LP/MP/HP and symbols?! Or at least a toggle! Feel like I need a bloody dictionary to decipher the moves.

A Dedicated Thread For Talking About Star Trek Episodes
dartmonkey replied to BigJKO's topic in Movies & Television
Does anyone have any predictions for the new TV series? I think it needs a ship named Enterprise, in the 25th Century, doing some exploring. I don't care about Prime or JJverse - whatever provides most potential, but I'd like there to be opportunities for Prime cameos in the future. A sexy ship named Enterprise is a must though, no? Enterprise F doesn't quite roll off the tongue like D or E. Maybe skip to mid-25th century straight to the G? -

I'm on the cusp of finishing my TNG blu-ray watch, but Nemesis was on telly so I watched that. Many, many problems but it's not as hateful as I remember. Hardly a fitting send-off for the crew of the Enterprise but I still had a couple of tears in the eye at the end. Man, it could have been SO much better though. Edit. "Picard got stabbed through the heart...and laughed." Jean-Luc Picard is such a boss. -
I'm B grade right now, Level 17 I think. I'm generally holding my own, though I'm really not experimenting with setups. I've got my '89 Zapper and 3-star gear and that's it. I've started buying a selection of 3-star stuff but I'm not really paying attention to the perks. It looks a bit time-consuming and messy to analyse. Is it worth it?
