I'm getting worried about mine, because Canada Post tracking says the carrier attempted delivery five days ago and nobody's gone to the post office to retrieve the package.

And egg #1929 makes Torrent Froakie number five. This is ludicrous. It's not so much that Torrent is bad (though it is), it's that Froakie's alternate ability, Protean, is game-breakingly good.

For those of you not keeping up with the Pokémon thread, I've spent the last week trying to hatch a shiny Pokémon with a specific ability and gotten four reject shinies in a row. I've hatched over 1800 eggs so far.

#1772 was a FOURTH shiny with Torrent. I am officially two-thirds of the way to a complete team of rejects.

I have a perfect Japanese Ditto holding a Destiny Knot for passing down IVs and exploiting the Masuda Method, have the Shiny Charm and Oval Charm to improve my chances further, and use a Talonflame with Flame Body to reduce the hatch time by 50%. After I get my perfect parent, I basically play the game on autopilot with one hand while I do other things.

The sun rises on day six of Froakiewatch. 1000 eggs now. I no longer hear news of the outside world. I wonder what kind of place the Earth has become since I chose this life; since I devoted myself to my task. Is there still hatred in the world? Has mankind destroyed itself? Has the rest of humanity transcended itself and left me behind? I do not know. I will never know. There is no outside world now. There is only Froakie.

One day I'll get a Sewaddle amiibo and all will be right with the world. I'm really intrigued by some of the things Iwata's been saying about releasing amiibos in different form factors besides "tiny statuette." Specifically, Nintendo's been tinkering with the idea of embedding NFC tags in trading cards for an amiibo card game, which is something I've been pulling for a while now.

I hatched a shiny Froakie earlier this week with Torrent instead of Protean. It only took me 73 eggs. Now I'm 700+ eggs in and haven't seen any more. Ugh.

Idle Thumbs 176: The Classic Alien Form

So lately I've been reading Fantagrraphics' collected editions of Floyd Gottfredson's Mickey Mouse newspaper comic. They were originally published in the thirties though, so there are loads of super racist caricatures and sentiments sprinkled in at times. Oddly enough, I'm not as bothered by the caricatures themselves as I am by the chapter forewords that try to accomplish the exact opposite of the Looney Tunes ones: they try to present stuff that is clearly racist as being totally okay at best and secretly progressive at worst. Probably the worst so far is the treatment of the cannibal islanders in the second volume. The foreword puts forth the idea that it's subversive that they worship a "white god" because he -like Mickey himself- is technically black-skinned. It reeks of some very shortsighted executive trying to paint the very obvious racism of the time as something that Disney was exempt from. -
This year had Babymetal's self-titled debut album. So, you know, there's that. Additionally, any year in which The Birthday Massacre has a new album is a year in which The Birthday Massacre wins album of the year for me. They havent really changed their sound much since Walking With Strangers, but that's not a bad thing.
