Microtransactions - Ragnarök confirmed

Gears of War: Judgment – Microtransactions Include Double XP Packs

video gamer has now confirmed that one of the items in the in-game store is a ‘double XP’ boost. The temporary boost in XP gain comes in variant packs ranging between 80 Microsoft Points and 800 Microsoft Points.

The 80 Microsoft Points pack will net you a 10 Match double XP boost, for 320 MSP you will get a 50 Match Pack, 560 MSP will get you a 100 Match Pack and finally a 200 Match Pack will be for 800 MSP.

XP is used to unlock character and weapon skins in the game. Many who perhaps have lesser time to give to the game, can make use of a XP boost kit.

Also apparently the season pass includes Permanent double XP.

As somebody who really enjoyed the 3 Gears of War games, but was merely on the fence about Judgement, i think this just pushed it into no-buy.

I realize 3 also had microtransactions, but they were purely cosmetic.

Apparently the game also comes with only 4 multiplayer maps, so if you intend to sink your teeth in to the multiplayer one way or another you're going to pay B)

as in you'll pay the price for not paying the monetary price :eyebrow:

saw it coming when online games started to come with experience point systems

I was actually a little surprised, I never saw paying for double xp on the horizon. At the end of the day it all just amounts to unlocking things early, most of which will be purely aesthetic things like gun colour. There is no 'pay for a competitive edge' yet, but it's early days, would they dare?

Don't the majority of online games with xp systems have micro transactions for xp boosts?  I know most f2p MMOs and Lords Managements do, so I don't find it surprising that this does either, even if it isn't F2P.

Most games I've paid for don't have experience boosts, except for EA sports games. The problem with paying for XP boosts is that they eventually turn down the XP gain until you have to pay to get any decent progress. (Mechwarrior online fell into that hole.)

Its happened

Free 2 play model inside your full priced console game

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle is a 2d fighting game

I don't, but it's related to the game's Campaign Mode.

Basically you have a battery with 10 bars that refills one bar every 5 minutes while in Campaign Mode or every 20 minutes outside of it. You spend one bare for every fight you play, and there's bosses to beat that require multiple fights and/or using more bars of energy so they take more damage. There's also random events, some that use energy too.

This mode needs to be played to unlock alt costumes/colors/quotes/poses and the bosses hold most if them.

You can buy battery refills and consumable special items to find bosses more easily through the PSN.

So what you're saying is that the cosmetic stuff Capcom used to charge for is now free.

If they were hiding characters you needed for a full roster in PvP, then it would be pitchfork time.

The bigger point here is the energy system. Once you play 10 fights in a day, you have to put the game down and wait for energy to come back. I don't like purchasing games that then tell me how much I can play.

Wait wait wait.

Does that carry over to match making? I thought that was just for grinding the AI battles for hats.

Edit: according to GAF, probably just affects hat getting.
