A New Beginning - Final Cut

Recommended Posts

I'm on an adventure game binge, after buying a bunch from the Steam sale. I think it's safe to say (from what I've played so far) that this one is crap and you miss nothing by not playing it, even though it's from the same developer that made the surprisingly good Deponia. Crappy dialogue, bugs, crappy story, bugs, skipping audio etc. Slow controls.

While I can agree this is probably the worse game from Daedelic Entertainment... I didn't have any bugs that I can remember and I enjoyed it... in a cheesy retro sci-fi show way. Just look at that guy's stache! It's like B-movie from that era!

Daedelic seem to be better at comedy, if you have the whole Daedelic bundle, I'm pretty sure you won't enjoy Chains of Satinav.

Hmm, maybe we should just have a Daedelic thread: Woogie Drogglejug HUZZAH!

Well, there are dialogue lines that make no sense, wrong dialogue line playing, occasionally wrong subtitles (e.g. in Russian or another language), audio stopping before the line is fully spoken, audio crackling, and characters who behave entirely non-believably or say idiotic things, characters talking to the player, character's mouth moving when they are just thinking out loud (and being heard would lead to something else), and more...

Also the opening scene was so stupid that I had to turn to a walkthrough during the first 10 minutes.

didn't think looking at the picture would do something like produce the key

I kept playing so far, though, and it gets better occasionally, but overall it is below mediocre, IMHO.

I haven't noticed any of those auido glitches either and doesn't ever game character ever say out loud what they are thinking so the playing can hear it?

But like I said, I enjoy this like a MS3TK thing, specially near the end when

the time bomb, it's just hilarious from beginning to end!

Hmm.... I picked up the whole bundle during the last Steam sale, and I'm already having problems getting through Deponia. (Seriously Tanukisune, were d you get the time to get through all those games.)

Even with Deponia I notice rather shitty audio, the footsteps are simply broken, and the puzzles are not well thought out, it's Simon the Sorcerer grade puzzles.

Ok, granted the moving lips is probably what most games do. It just looked very weird in one particular scene

in the helicopter, where you are just a foot or two from Fae

. There are still all the other problems I mentioned.

The game gets somewhat better actually, I enjoyed the whole oil rig thing. Also thank god for youtube, because I didn't save at all during that and then accidentally skipped cutscene and dialogue in the next part.

Adventure games seem to be the genre with the shortest games, even the average Mario game is much longer than these game, they usually last me 4-10 hours.

Once again, I didn't get any audio problems with these games ad for the puzzles, I started a thread on Toon Logic because Deponia seems to be almost easy to me but everybody else think it's impossible...

Rufus is an idiot savant, I just play the game and think what would I do if I was Daffy Duck, Mr. Bean or a complete crazy moron living in a world with cartoonian laws of physics? And the easiest way to solve the puzzle is... would it be funny if this actually worked?

If you think Deponia has bad logic, stay away from both Edna and Harvey games, their logic is even more insane since you actually deal with true mad people in a true mad world, but it still cartoon logic, just more Tex Avery than Looney Tunes.

Fae was obviously too distracted talking to Harvey to hear or care about anybody else, he was probably whispering terrible things to her ears... WOOOGIE! :P

Yeah, the mystery of the oil rig was probably the best part, but I still find one thing hard to swallow:

The whole thing was really an accident? Seriously!? That would explain why everybody kept it quiet, but still...

I was making an Edna & Harvey joke, I guess you haven't played the game if you didn't recognize the toy rabbit in the game. :|

I think most adventure games don't have the budget for having them talk softly or just "think". If you have them talk softly because they don't want to be caught during a certain scene, then they would have to add a softer voiced line for the item descriptions they have in their inventory so it's better to pretend they can't be heard.

It would be equally jarring to have them speak a few lines in a whisper only to have them shout the next line.

Finished it. Weird ending. So in light of the second half of the game, I'll admit that maybe it's not as bad as I initially thought, but there were still a lot of issues.

PS. Can you spot what's wrong with this screenshot? (Warning: spoils a location)

(apparently we can't embed images from steamcommunity on these forums so linky:)

I haven't played this game, but I have the UK boxed version of this game and it does not say "Final Cut" on it. Is this a version with extra stuff added for Steam? I can't seem to find any information.

Apparently it's called that because this is the version with localization in several language and extra cutscenes? I doubt it has the 60 extra minutes it claims, in the same way it claims to be 20 hours long.

Did the protagonist just become ant-woman? (or man. I can't actually see, it's so tiny)

Congrats! Your prize is knowledge in your great skills of ant-finding!

Yes, she's standing on one of those lamps under the dome. I somehow managed to walk out of the walkable area that is only outside of the dome and couldn't get back any more. Thankfully I had just saved (after several hours of not saving).

I don't think they're lamps, but I'll take that prize!

Nitpicky son of a bitch, aren't I?

Haha, I just realized they are indeed not lamps. Somehow my eyes saw them as being further away and the one she's standing on was attached to the beam in the middle of the dome in my mind. But they might actually be (... I forgot the english word and google translate says ...) suckers.

Great, now I can't help but to ponder on how on Earthy can that glass window be held up with just suction cups.
