Kolzig Posted November 15, 2011 (edited) I don't remember if we had any kind general purchases thread, but I got a question if there are any music/podcast loving car people here at Thumbs fortress? The problem with my car is that it doesn't have AUX port. I would not need any transmitter if I had the AUX port, but as such FM transmitter seems the only solution as I don't want start opening up the dashboard and doing MacGyver tricks. The car stereo is a Toyota brand one that can't be changed. I'm searching for a way to get to listen to all the awesome Thumbs podcasts and other podcasts, music and audiobooks while driving, I would like to find what is the best FM transmitter in the market? I do have one Kensington that is plugged in to the cigarette lighter, but that works only with Apple products which I don't own anymore. I can use that with my wife's iPod during trips, but I'd like to connect my Android phone also. What would be best if the device would also include some bluetooth HF system. Rakuten group member Play.com had one yesterday for sale, but those suckers don't send stuff other than games, dvd and cd to outside of UK. I wish they would change their rules as they have some gadgets often in sale that I would like to get. The usual problem with FM transmitters is that the sound is not that good and that you can hear some static noise in the background. Twig Posted November 15, 2011 I was just thinking about trying to hunt down a quality transmitter the other day. I have one that I use now, but it sucks, and I constantly have to hunt down open bandwidths as I'm driving. It's so bad I just don't even bother anymore. I'd love something that's significantly stronger in signal. ):
Kolzig Posted November 16, 2011 I found the same Nexxus one from Amazon, all the customer reviews in play.com and Amazon seem positive about this one, but I'm still not sure. There is also another choice from Belkin, here also the reviews say it's good. The first one is supposed to have a well functioning hands free microphone etc. The second one doesn't, but then I have a third gadget Supertooth Bluetooth Visor Car Kit where the reviews again say that it should work. I'm really troubled that should I just risk it and buy the first one or buy the two other devices. I got some stuff ordered already yesterday, the cigarette lighter splitter so I get two there instead of one and also a windscreen holder for the phone/mp3 player, but these transmitters/hf devices are really troubling as I really don't want to buy bad quality. I would really want the sound to be as good as possible.
syntheticgerbil Posted November 16, 2011 Fortunately, I have a Nokia phone that does this, which I didn't find out until a year after having it. It holds 8 GB of stuff and the transmitter is okay if I leave my phone in a drink holder. I figured maybe this was something most new smartphones had. With the droids and the iPhones... but this is not the case, is it?
