Patters Posted March 21, 2010 (edited) So I'm going back home for Easter, and have very little to do over the 3 weeks off I have. I was wondering if any of you London Based thumbs were up for anything between the 29th of March and the 18th of April. Ideas are more than welcome. EDIT: So I'm thinking Casino arcade meeting at 6 or 7pm, which ever is peoples preference. Throw me a PM to get my Number, then head to a pub between 8 and 9, have a pint or 4 then over. Good with others? If anything changes I can throw out a text to tell those of changed plans. Edited April 6, 2010 by Patters
Scrobbs Posted March 21, 2010 I might be around - depends if my contract comes off or not. If it does, will be in Berkshire, could make it over to London for a few beers.
Nevsky Posted March 21, 2010 I approve of this message. My calendar is erratic and usually quite unpredictable, but let me know when and I'll see if I'm free. Something cheap and central would be ideal. We could even be stereotypes and go to play Street Fighter IV at the Trocadero. By 'play' I mean 'get slaughtered at'. Also I'm probably too much of a cheapskate to pay to play in an arcade. A pub it is then?

James Posted March 22, 2010 I could maybe be awkward around people on a weekend. Maybe.

Hermie Posted March 23, 2010 I'm up in Norway, so I wont be either at this one, the PAX east meet, or most other meet-ups. However, I'm posting for one important reason. I propose we from now on call all future Idle Thumbs Meet-Ups... "Thumbs Up". ...Carry on. <.<
Patters Posted March 24, 2010 Is the second weekend of April good for people? I would be more proactive organising this if I weren't ill. I should be able to organise it properly next week.
Nevsky Posted March 25, 2010 As in the 10/11? That is currently free for me. Subject to change.
Patters Posted March 29, 2010 Yeah Nevsky either the 10th or 11th. So ideas: We could go to the Trocadero Arcade or (Mathematical or) Gamerbase Then onto a pub recommended by a Londoner. Preferences?
James Posted March 29, 2010 I have none. The Trocadero can be pretty fun, although it can get expensive if you get carried away. Or that might just be me being miserly. But yeah, I'm down with awkwardness in any combination of the suggested contexts, I guess. I also have no pub suggestions. This post is worthless. Actually, I do know a pub near Leicester Square that a friend of mine likes, but it's pretty small and often packed. No, yeah, this post is still worthless. Nevsky Posted March 30, 2010 Something might be happening for me on the 10th in the evening, but that hasn't been set in stone yet. I have a handful of pubs that we could go to, potentially, although I have no idea if they are good in terms of price, because I'm the water-drinking type. So I don't really have a preference in that regard. On the topic of the Trocadero and Gamerbase, let's just say I'm more miserly than James. I suspect both places will be rammed on the weekends anyway. It can be fun to wander around the Trocadero and observe, though. Which pub were you thinking of, James? To be honest, most central London pubs are small and packed.
James Posted March 30, 2010 I forget the name. It's in an alley just around the corner from the Vue, I think.
AndrewArmstrong Posted April 1, 2010 I'd come if I had anyone to journey from ta midlands with (that's "Up North" for anyone who lives in London or so I've been told, hehe), but London's a tad far just to visit an arcade go and pub. Bet you'll have fun though However, I might well try and make London for a likely Eurogamer Expo this fall, might be good to meet some people there

I suggested Bristol, because Wrestle and I live near there. I have no other reason than it's close to me and I know the area pretty well and can therefore plan things a bit better. All those in favour of a summer get together...SAY I.
pabosher Posted April 1, 2010 Damn you adults and your pub-based activities. Just one more year...
Patters Posted April 1, 2010 Bristol isn't a good city for a meet up, considering it is both no in the ideal location nor does it have great Transport links to most places. It would take me 3 hours to get there from just north of London, others even longer. If a meet-up with those from The European mainland then a big city with multiple/large airports, I know Bristol has an airport, though it wouldn't have the large amounts of transport links to London would be better. As for the meet up would Saturday be a better day for people, Nevsky and James are any of the pubs you were considering near Piccadilly Circus (close to both Gamerbase and the Trocadero arcade), if so can you give me the names so I can give them a call, asking prices etc. watching a load of competitive games is always pretty cool, particularly Street Fighter, and DDR as the article Nevsky linked to suggested. Doing that then going to a pub for a couple of hours would be pretty cool.
James Posted April 1, 2010 Yeah, I think I'm actually busy on the Sunday. I HAVE NO PUB NAMES I'M SORRY.
Ben Posted April 2, 2010 If you actually want to play Street Fighter 4 I would suggest Casino (on Tottenham Court Road, next to Goodge Streeet Station) over Troc: the cab's at troc are fewer and I believe one of them currently has a busted stick and another a dodgy screen. Casino has about 6 linked cabs and the equipment is all good. ...of course the downside is that Casino is also the home of the UKs top SF players and getting on a machine could take a while on a Friday or Saturday night.
