I hate Games for Windows Live and subsequently MicroSoft

No, that was either never a thing or Microsoft decided not to turn off the servers. GFWL is still running.

I had a problem recently where I'd uninstalled Windows Live ID Sign-In Assistant because why the fuck would I need that, and Bulletstorm would literally just not launch at all. It turns out GFWL needs whatever that is. Games For WINDOWS LIVE, huh, go figure.

Anyway, dunno if that's your problem. Probably not.

I've also had issues where GFWL wouldn't sign in properly from inside a game unless I'd booted up the marketplace first outside. After having formatted, I've got everything running how I imagine a whiteboard said it should run, but I'm terrified of messing with one leg of the tripod (GFWL client, GFWL marketplace, Windows Live ID Sign-In Assistant) and tipping the whole thing over again.

I've never had that particular problem, but I've heard about it happening often enough. What a mess GFWL is. Ugh.

Completely remove what ever version of GFWL installed with the game, install the newest from here: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/pc/DownloadClient. Sign in from the client outside the game first, then open the game and try to connect.

Then if that breaks (which it did for my friend that I bought Dark Souls for) remove it all and do it again.

The capital S in "MicroSoft" is weirding me out. I feel like it was at one point a dollar sign, or at least read "MicroShaft."

This is one of those frustrating programs where you do all the steps, it doesn't work, you remove it and do the exact same steps, then it suddenly works for no good reason. I have no idea how the install is so busted.
