This shit is right out of Silent Hill!

OK, NOW we're in the uncanny valley...

Looks like Hideo Kojima was right.

Jesus why does it have to buzz like that? It already looks like a giant mutant bluebottle

Heh, I was just intending to post this. I haven't played Silent Hill, but it reminds me of those whatchamacallits from Half Life 2 (Ep 2).

Ewww. If I keep looking at that, I start feeling like I'm looking at some immense twisted fucking insect.

I waited 15 seconds for the drums to kick in before I realized that this wasn't a music video of some crappy metal band.

Impressive but sounds annoying as hell.

The ice bit made me want to get a load of old people, dump them on an ice and have a race.

Yeah, these things are mental.

I can already imagine the future. These things become really big and really strong for carrying various cargo (their intended purpose), and then either:

a) Some AI so intelligent we've had to confine it to a computer (ie: no body) for our own safety manages to implant its own mind into loads of them and goes on a killing spree

B) Drivable, ultra-strong ones are produced based on the cargo-carrying versions, which results in some crazy mech action

An interesting fact for Metal Gear Solid fans is that the guys producing these things are largely funded by DARPA. :woohoo: (Just click this if you're a bit wierd and didn't play/like MGS.)

It's almost like Hideo has a crystal ball buried up his arse!

Good Christ, that thing's terrifyingly sophisticated. Not to mention chillingly life-like...

Indeed.

It took me until after the guy kicked it to realize it wasn't the actual thing. And yes, this is what uncanny valley is, as as DanJW said. It's not about trying to imitate life but merely parody it in a way that is unsettling more than convincing.
