Rez HD announced for Live Arcade!

Recommended Posts

The cult classic synaesthetic shooter/music/drug-fueled hallucination game Rez will get a follow-up for Xbox Live Arcade.

Called Rez HD, it will be developed by original creator Tetsuya Mizuguchi's company Q Entertainment.

PS - Just to give everyone fair warning: anyone that says anything negative about Rez in this thread will be perma-banned. I'm afraid when it comes to Rez there is only one opinion, and that is mine. Feel free to agree with it using your own colourful and creative language. Thank you.

This rules so much. I can't wait.

Quite appropriately I'm wearing my Every Extend Extra tshirt today for the first time since I got it from Mizuguchi. Not that EEE is in the same league as Rez, but there was probably some invisible force guiding my hand to the tshirt this morning. Maybe.

It gets better...

Treasure Co's classic vertically-scrolling 2D shooter Ikaruga (GC, DC) was listed as "available soon" for download. The challenging title will feature the standard two-player cooperative mode of the original.

Original post.

ZOMG finally! But no mention of two-player over Live, which is a little disconcerting.

Of those two, I would definitely pick Ikaruga. The game has always intrigued me for some reason. Too bad I don't have an Xbox360.

Choose your words (and the inherent implications) very carefully.

....... because I don't think I could handle the constant mental (and possibly physical) ejaculation caused by playing Rez.

Agreed - excellent save, Sir!

But in all seriousness, Nappi, Rez is unlike anything else I've played. Except maybe Space Giraffe, but it's much more artistic and considered than that (from an audio-visual standpoint). Rez is an absolute pleasure to play. Every. Single. Time.

I'm so excited about this and Ikaruga; MS are really pulling out the stops and I like.

Wooo! Yeah!

I only got to play Rez briefly at a festival, but I really wanted more. Also, I wonder if there will be a microsoft branded trance vibrator (NSFW I suppose) for this version? :)

Ah, awesome. I'm curious to see what Ikuruga is all about (never played).

I played it, again briefly, at the same festival, and watched a load more people on it. As far as I can tell, it's about having your ass handed to you again, and again, and again...

Fixed, ta.

Some of the comments there are hilarious. People getting WAY too excited, in every possible way, about pictures of a woman wearing knickers and a t-shirt.

I believe they've said there won't be any peripherals like that on this version.

I guess you can still enjoy it even if there aren't any additional peripherals this time:

The thing about Rez is that you can't watch a video of it, or even watch another person playing it. You have to play it for youself to really get it. It's all about the infinite feedback loop between man and machine.

Some nonsense about judging games without playing them and generally failing at games and being a retarded Norwegian on top of it all.

This is coming your way cunt.

Rez is a fantastic, enchanting Kandisnky-like trance of a transcendal experience!

But I'd rather get Ikaruga! Though I suck at it, I want to be on those leaderboards (I don't think I ever broke 10 million, but I was close). Although I worry how the 360 controller will handle it... need a good d-pad for that.

What's funny is that I *just* got Rez and Ikaruga used for their original consoles this summer.

Awesome. Get them both. Funny how one is very easy, the other is insanely difficult, yet both are absolutely engrossing in their own ways.

Toblix, you've really been giving off a self-hating gamer vibe, moreso than usual. Btw, I just played the first Gobliiins game again since not getting too far when I was a kid. It's really charming, but the gameplay was ridiculously frustrating. Too many times it forced you into situations requiring trial and error, and permanently punishing you for making the wrong guess.

Original console, right? You mean Dreamcast, right? Otherwise:

That explains Ikaruga, what about Rez? I also have both, but unfortunately neither is on the original console. Has something to do with me not getting a Dreamcast until 2005 and the games being ridiculously expensive by then. Still, PS2 Rez and GCN Ikaruga are much loved, and it'll be great to have both on the same system, without even having to switch discs to swap between them!

Also, none of this stuff had better be lies. If I'm being toyed with about the possibility of these games in HD, heads WILL fucking roll.

It's all about the infinite feedback loop between man and machine.

Every time I read about Rez something like this is mentioned, but never explained.

For example, do you somehow benefit from locking the targets "in tune" (or in correct order) or does it just sound crap if you don't? Are there real long time effects? For instance, does the music sound horribly cacophonous in the end if you have played the level poorly? And so on..
