Slim PS2 now £69!!!

Recommended Posts

Hell, go for it. Yeah, yeah. Sony and all, but still: That little black box has a lot of love to give.

Fuck, I was tempted to buy a PS3 earlier this week when EB announced a deal where you can trade 10 games (any) and get a PS3 for $400 Canadian. That's $100 less than I paid for my 360, and actually within the realm of reasonable. I held off, mostly because Little Big Planet isn't out yet, but still. Tempted.

That in mind, if I saw a PS2 for 70 pounds (and didn't, y'know, have one) I wouldn't think twice. Worth it. No question.

Unfortunately:

  • that recent Xbox 360 purchase hit my wallet for massive damage,
  • I'm looking at moving house very soon,
  • I've no space to squeeze in a PS2 anywhere at the moment anyway (even a skinny one).

Maybe later in the year I'll get one though. A friend at work has been taunting me with his recent purchase of God Hand, which I'm bursting to play. (He's offered to lend me his system short-term though, which is cool.)

"Important Note! We can only ship this product to United Kingdom addresses. We apologise for any inconvenience. All prices include UK VAT and delivery."

Too bad for that shit, I might have ordered it otherwise...

wth? including UK VAT?

play.com prices are usually without VAT, and because of that they are cheap.

the thing that sucks is that I can't order anything that costs more than 23 euros because otherwise I'll have to pay customs (since jersey is not part of the EU).

Interesting; would you be able to use a UK-spec machine in Finland?

Like there are so many things different on a UK-spec machine.

Pretty much all electric equipment is made for 50-60hz and 200-240V (or even "110 or 200-240V"). The last part of powerplugs are usually a universal plug to local connector. So it's easy to get a euro connector cord for the last part.

Why not? We both have PAL. At least DVDs are the same.

Around here the limit is 46 euros.

Of course I would. Only the power plug would be different, but I do have an adapter for that kind of a situation.

I've never paid any customs on stuff I've ordered from Play and I must have made orders over 46€.

Yeah, I've never paid customs either, but I've had to go to the customs office down at the harbor about 2-3 times to pick up the ordered stuff and explain what the hell I've been ordering.

The official limit is 46 euros from Jersey Island.

Not to rub it in your face or anything, but I just hooked up my PS2 again to finish God of War. Beat it earlier tonight, so I started playing God Hand, which I bought just after Christmas but haven't had a chance to try yet. Holy shit is this fun. Ok, getting an enemy targeted is horribly clunky, but otherwise brilliant. I've been looking for a game that realizes when its subject matter just shouldn't be taken seriously. God Had delivers. The second level is called, I shit you not, "A Poison Chihuahua!?" On top of all this, one of the main villains is voiced by none other than Spottswoode from Team America: World Police. I really hope you get ahold of this one soon. So much fun.

It's gone up to £89.99 now  GAME are offering a better deal at the moment. £95 with that Buzzer game (with four buzzer controllers) or £95 with Singstar Legends and the Microphone controller (you gotta love those custom controllers!).

Anyone else seen anything better? I'm in the market for a new PS2!

Nothing I'm afraid. A friend and I did some curiosity shopping earlier this week for the PS2; £89.99 seems to be the standard price everywhere again. No idea when there might be another price slash, but it might still be worth hanging back a little while longer...
