Xbox 360 Live Arcade

Recommended Posts

Is is just me, or do all the games on Live Arcade seem a lot more interesting than the "real" games released for the Xbox 360 (maybe except Dead Rising, which seems really cool)? It's like there's a bunch of fun, interesting games on the Arcade, while the store shelves are stocked with, I dunno, EA Sports games and movie licensed games and what have you.

Am I right or am I right?

You are absolutely fucking spot-on. (Except for Viva Pinata, as everyone knows that I like that too.) My best gameplay times have been spent with Cloning Clyde, Lumines, Uno, Heavy Weapon, and Assault Heroes.

Looking forward to Castlevania: The One Everyone Goes On About, Castle Crashers, Alien Hominid HD, and Sonic the Hedgehog High Speed (if it ever comes out). And of course, there's the lovely games which just pop up and hit you out of the face from out of nowhere, and you discover that they're awesome. Assault Heroes was one of these.

Man, I'd love it if Rare brought out Jetpac for Live Arcade. I had more enjoyment from that and the (only!) arcade Donkey Kong port with the pie factory instead of DK64 itself.

Does everyone get the same stuff, or is there some sort of Xbox 360 apartheid?

The hell? I assume that if it's available on Arcade somewhere, it's available everywhere.

The best games really are on there. Aside from the ones Ben mentioned, Marble Blast and Geometry Wars are fucking great. There is more than Dead Rising for boxed games, but not a whole lot. Viva Pinata, Kameo, and Gears of War are all great games. Not amazing games, but definitely fun and more than worth playing.

So, as this seemed like as good a thread to mention it in as any, Alien Hominid HD hits this week. w00t and such. Between this and Crackdown, Friday is going to be an awesome day for my 360, and an unfortunate one for my wallet.

By the way, I believe Hitman Blood Money also stands in high regard for the 360, yesno? It's one of the titles I really want as soon as I get the console.

Blood Money is a masterpiece : this game is so freakin' good, it makes you feel that everything you do is having consequences on the characters and the world. Also, in Pro-mode, it's like the best RPG ever : no stats, no skills but you have to act your character and the ones you impersonate perfectly to get out of each mission alive.

This is happening by the way. I've seen screenshots ... google up "Jetpac Refuelled"

Yeah, I saw! A bit iffy on the remake version, but they're including the classic one, which was loads of fun. Hope it has co-op too.

And that you can still choose the Kempston Joystick.

It was better to dig up an old thread than post a new one, but

Bomberman Live is totally awesome

When XBox Live Arcade launched this was the game that I (and many others) thought would be perfect for it. Instead, Hudson in all its wisdom released Bomberman: Act Zero:fart:

I guess the failure of that made them see the light cause Bomberman Live is what everyone wanted from the start... a decent, online Bomberman. There's a lot of customization. A bunch of modes. EIGHT player matches. Kinda wish that some of the classic levels (conveyor belts; tunnels) were there, but that's a minor complaint.

I got in a player match with some random people in the evening and after a number of frantic 8 (more like 6-7, always someone dropped :( ) player matches I realized that it was 1:30. Eight player online Bomberman with revenge turned on (when you die you go into a cart on the side of the board that you can chuck bombs from. If you kill someone, you switch places and you're back in the game) is crazy. Definitely the most fun with an online arcade game I've had yet. So worth the $10.

Sonic is out on XBLA. Everyone owns some form of copy, but yay! anyway.

Well, according to an interview with Major Nelson, they'll be rolling out downloadable content for Bomberman Live, too. The first one is supposed to come about a month after the game's initial release. They've mentioned adding new game modes and new levels, so that should be pretty damn cool.

Well, my next day off is Saturday, so I'll probably be downloading that as well as Paper Mario on the Wii (and buying Guitar Hero 80s) and going into a game induced coma over the weekend. After the Friday night revelry, of course. Maybe I'll see some of you folks online and have my ass handed to me. I've never been all that good at Bomberman.

Prince of Persia was a sweet remake and worth the cash. I didn't know Bomberman was out.... How could I miss that?? Also, Speedball II (Amiga) is on its way for the 360 LA, too.
