defanual Posted March 13, 2006 EDIT: I haven't posted a new reply because some people don't approve of this post in the first place, so i'll just say that gameDentity has been updated from v1.00ee to v1.00 and includes the following new features: User Profile music, free sample sounds, Info status bar, Import/Export (Load/Backup), shortcut to browse gameDentity directory, updated Help + Screenies, a nice selection of bug kills and more... Full features list http://www.applications.eternalsyndrome.com/products/gameDentity/downloads/Read_Me.txt Thanks again ! edit end>> Hello everyone:D , hope your all feeling great, it was another fine day in sunny london today! (I hope this doesn't come under viral marketing, i'm not even sure what that is?) I'm going around the game forums to tell people about this new tool I created that I believe is a great aid to serial (loads of games) gamers. Wouldn't it be great if there was a tool that replicated the familar profile system you enjoy and are now use to in some modern games. What if any pc game, on any pc (Win 95+), whatever the amount of users could have their own saves slots/folders and game settings (display/sound etc). Not only this, but it kept all that data in one convienient place and therefore allowed you to easily backup all those games & settings as well as share and move around that data from one pc to the next with ease! Well, now we can, with gameDentity If you would like to find out more please feel free to check out the website http://www.applications.eternalsyndrome.com/products/gameDentity/index.html Anyway, thanks for checking this out, if you any questions, thoughts or concerns, feel free to ask. I hope I haven't broken any forums rules (I did read em before posting) and forgive me in advance for this account being conveniently created today Also, it would be great if gamers (regardless of whether you feel you need it or not) downloaded gameDentity (only 5.66Mb) and started creating some Game Profiles for games that are not already listed in the Downloads>Game Profiles page of the website Thanks again
elmuerte Posted March 13, 2006 [Your banner here?] 15 euro for that? And 12MB diskspace !? Why does it need directx 9.0c!?
defanual Posted March 13, 2006 Yep, 15 euro (or €14.65 to be precise), great price (even without the available 20% discount!). 12Mbs is mainly the Game Profile preview images, the included user profile avatar images and the exe, but 12Mbs is nothing by todays standards (40Gb-160Gb HD's)! The application itself is made in a directx based API so Directx 9.0c (may work with directx 9.0b) is required, but if your a gamer (which the tool is aimed at) you'll probably have the latest version already installed and ready to go! Thanks for checking this out and your questions/comments EDIT: Noticed the link in your sig, Little Big Adventure, one of my all time favourites. Would be great to see Little Big Adventure 3 happen. I wonder if 1+2 could do with a game profile?
brkl Posted March 13, 2006 Advertizing for your commercial product... I don't like that. It's probably against forum rules too.
defanual Posted March 13, 2006 I hope I haven't broken any forums rules (I did read em before posting) As I already said above and i'm sure this doesn't come under viral marketing, i hope not anyway I'm sorry you don't like that brkl, but it is a tool (possibly) in the interest of gamers (saving gamers game saves), and one of the best places to reach gamers is in game forums, i kept away from throwing prices, commercial patter and so on all over the original post because I wanted to: A) increase awareness (and get some dloads) and Get people creating game profiles (which doesn't require purchase) Once again, i'm sorry if i've broken any rules and if i've upset anyone as a result, it wasn't my intension to do so:\
brkl Posted March 13, 2006 It's certainly not viral marketing (just marketing, pure and simple).
DanJW Posted March 14, 2006 Hello there Defanual. Your purposes may have been better served if you came to the website through more official channels - we could have given a news post over to your product. As it is I'm going to leave this thread here, since you're being so open, but if we get too many complaints I may have to lock it. Best of luck with your project though. defanual Posted March 14, 2006 Thanks DanJW:yep: Understood, sorry to all again. more official channels Wow, i have to be honest, i just did a search for game forums in google, looked in the faq/post rules and took a chance. I've probaly made the same mistake on other sites, i didn't even realise the main site:frusty: (stupid ads by sony! ) Despite this, i definetly wouldn't of thought i would be able to get a news post on an official/established game site's news listings alongside all the heavyweights;(, i'm still learning all this marketing stuff, boy, talk about a missed opportunity:\
miffy495 Posted March 15, 2006 Wait, how long has the thumb been prestigious? I must've missed something. And here I was liking the place because it was free of all that high-minded "we're prestigious" crap. As for your product, yeah trying to market on forums is usually going to be met with a bit of hostility, but I give you major points for being really nice and polite about it. None of that "BUY OUR CRAP!!!" that some people try.
Marek Posted March 15, 2006 Wow your posts are dripping in insincere attempts at humility. Too much dude, too much.
defanual Posted March 15, 2006 I was trying to be careful about using the word prestigious, so i checked it wordweb before using it, and i thought in the first example, the word was used properly and appropriately. (I don't suppost the 'such' part helped either) Having an illustrious reputation; respected Now i'm pretty sure that when you like something, you respect what the people are doing in their choosen field and that creates a (good) reputation, but i guess the word i should of use instead to prevent the idea of 'high-minded'ness or trying to hard on the 'humility' front (which, in funny way, when reading it back i kinda thought, ow oh, i gonna get a reply like Marek's:frusty:) would be 'established' or 'official'. So to that effect, point taken and message edited, the 'such prestigious' part did not read good at all, fair point. Fact is, I've never really seen small devs like myself get news posts in official gaming/software sites without those devs been pretty established themselves. Now, that sounds more real & less pretentious i hope. EDIT: Thanks miffy495, put it this way, i've learned from past mistakes, i use to have that 'Buy Now' style, but i definetly think the 'just tell people about' approach is much better, even though it can still (understandable) rattle people. Thanks for all your comments, it should help me prevent the same mistakes in other forums and dialogs in future
