Spaff Posted December 9, 2004 Whilst we missed the actual date of Sony's trimphant 10 years in the industry, it is our duty to look at some of the games for PlayStation that made us all weep with joy. It's probably the most unpopular console around these parts, there are certainly some shit-hot titles on it. So lets get some mini reviews going... I'm going to have to go with the black on white line drawing musical bonanza and satisfying paradise that is Vib Ribbon Vibri (above) grooves along the white line of destiny, skillfully avoiding the sound generated obstructions. The player (You) uses a simple control mechanic which drives all to their gradual addicted doom, depending on his/ her/ your choice of music. And what music to choose from? Anything you like... any Compact Disc of music can be used as the framework for a level, giving an almost infinite level set. Alternatively the fantastic music on the game disc can be used if you have no CDs of your own. Over to Pirate Ben for a power review: Remember when games were about control, i mean real control. None of these cutscenes, no plot extrapolation, no external camera swtich...just you, the user, the player, in control of a character. Well, that's what makes Vib Ribbon one of the most awesome game of the 90s. It's not just about "simplicity" because, as anyone who's played it to a hardcore soundtrack will tell you, it's anything but simple. And the button combinations, they're not easy either. No no no, it's the control. You control Vibri, you control the character, the game, the rhythm controls you. You interact. You level up, you degrade, you soar, you fuck up, you scream, you laugh, you bob your head. You are in control. http://www.vibribbon.com/ Bring on the mini reviews. There are bound to be some PlayStation fans out there.....
JimmyTheFish Posted December 9, 2004 I heard this game is PAL only. Could I use it in the US? Cause I'd be all over that game.

nsps Posted December 10, 2004 Wow. I started out playing DigDug, Caverns of Mars, Donkey Kong, ect. on an old Atari, so the idea of the Playstation being 10 years old makes me feel a very, very old 22 (23 in a week). Hrm. I have a Dreamcast. A couple of my friends recently became addicted to Puzzle Fighter, some weird Tetris-Columns clone with Street Fighter characters in side windows. Um, is that a mini review? Did Tony Hawk Pro Skater come out on PS before other consoles? The Dreamcast version is one of my favorite sports games (a genre I'm usually not that huge on, although I was oddly addicted to RBI Baseball (the first one) at one point. The music game sounds really cool. Too bad it's not in the U.S. (although I'd have to get a PS...) Happy Birthday, PS. You've lightened my live with hours of missed potential gameplay.
