  1. Idle Thumbs 187: Half a Brain

My first thought was a scene from the terrible Wild Wild West movie where they literally do exactly what Chris said and project a light into a dead man's eyes to see the last thing he saw.
  2. Its beginning to look a lot like GOTY

I really wanted to like Transistor given how much I like Bastion. I love the art, sound, and music, I think they're beautiful in the normal Supergiant way. The gameplay just never clicked with me the way I was hoping. I don't think it's a bad game, it's just not a game for me.
  3. Super Smash Bros. (Spoiler: Snake Kills Ganondorf)

Link was always my main just because I think he's fun and I like the little quirks he has that other characters don't (such as 2 consecutive forward A smash attacks and blocking stuff with his shield if you stand still). I liked Link more than Toon/Young Link because those characters annoy me. Nice to hear he got a buff in the new Smash.
  4. I Had A Random Thought...

I think the worst thing to happen to me medically was a kidney stone. That was freaking awful.
  5. Its beginning to look a lot like GOTY

This hasn't been a great year for me personally. Too little time and money have led to me not playing much new stuff. I played Transistor and Shovel Knight, but I didn't really care for either one. Transistor in particular disappointed me. I don't think its bad and I love everything about it except playing it. That's mostly because the gameplay doesn't appeal to my personal taste, especially compared to Bastion which does. Monument Valley was pretty great. Short, sweet, beautiful. Same with Hitman GO. Broken Age was great but I'd rather wait until I've played both parts. Shadow of Mordor is maybe the best thing new thing I played. It's quite good and the nemesis system really helps keep things interesting. My biggest complaint is that the system doesn't go far enough. There's a good amount of potential there and I'm interested to see what can be done with it in the future.
  6. What is the Nadir of the Simpsons?

I feel really bad for Flanders. First he loses his wife and the mother of his children to a t-shirt cannon, then he later loses his second wife. Granted the loss of Edna was outside of the writer's control but I still feel for stupid Flanders. I did like the small scene that he shares with Nelson where they remember her.
  7. The Idle Broadcasts Thread

I did a Spelunky run tonight. I think I'm going to leave it open to my friends list for the next few days at least so if you'd like to watch me die to dumb things send me a friend request on Steam.
  8. So I streamed a disappointing daily challenge, but more importantly I also messed around a bit with the settings. Apparently it not only streams the game audio, it just streams all audio. I put on the podcast in the background and it played on the stream. Also if you enable desktop capture, you can just minimize the window and stream pretty much anything you want. I've already heard reports of porn and anime being broadcast. I expect that won't last long.
  9. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I NEVER thought I'd say this ever, but GG has finally done something I like
  10. The Idle Broadcasts Thread

Now that Steam streaming is a thing, I might make my daily Spelunky runs viewable to my friends list.
  11. I'm extremely self-conscious so performing in a public space makes me uncomfortable. I'd probably feel a lot better if I knew that only friends I trust were the ones watching me.
  12. How do you organize your steam library?

I used to run a RAID 5 as well but it kept failing on me. I've been considering building it again with a RAID 10. I still have the HDDs.
  13. I quite like the idea really. The ability to have only those on your friends list watch the game sounds like a good idea to me. It's part of the reason I never felt comfortable streaming on Twitch. Even though in my head I knew that random people wouldn't jump into my stream and start harassing me, the idea that someone could was enough to make me not want to do it. I'm really tempted to try this out tonight with some Spelunky.
  14. How do you organize your steam library?

Completely off topic question: Which RAID level do you use?
  15. Screenshots. Shots of your screen.

This is maybe a dumb question, but does she wear a spacesuit at all? If so, maybe the flare is coming off of the helmet glass. If not, then I got nothing.
  16. Screenshots. Shots of your screen.

I appreciate that you took the time to get a screenshot of the alien as it eats your face.
  17. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Probably by being a victim as well.
  18. The terrible wallet scourge of the Amiibo.

So this thing sold for $2,500 on ebay. Yeah.
  19. An email I sent to Giantbomb

My feelings on Dan swing back and forth between thinking he's currently the funniest guy on the cast to wanting to punch his face. Most of the time I find him amusing but every so often he says something that just really makes me dislike him until the next dumb thing. I do think he brings an energy that was lost with Ryan and Vinnie, I just wish he was a little less of a buffoon at times.
  20. I Had A Random Thought...

Just before Thanksgiving, my Nexus 4 got the update to Android Lollipop. I installed it and it looks really nice. I was happy for a while, until one morning it broke all the Google Play services and everything Google related stopped working. Everything that didn't rely on a login from Google worked like it used to, but I couldn't get email, weather, notifications, access the Play Store, etc. After some searching it seemed like this was not an isolated incident and several people complained that the update broke their system as well. The general reasoning seemed to be that it was a buggy version of Google Play services, the solution to which appeared to be disabling it and installing a previous stable version. Except I couldn't disable it because it was an active administrator according to the device manager that wouldn't sync. So in the end I had to do a factory reset which so far has fixed everything. I use a lot of cloud services so I didn't lose anything crucial but it's still annoying all the same to have to set everything up again. Also I've ended up uninstalling several games because I lost all progress and don't feel like starting over again.
  21. MO MONEY MO THUMBS - PAYDAY 2

Finally got to V-100. Now I'm not sure what to do with myself...
  22. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

That lightsaber is super dumb, but no worse that some of the over dumb versions that have existed such as The lightwhip The lighttonfa and my personal favorite dumb variant, the lightfoil
  23. anime

Just finished watching Summer Wars with Teg. Pretty great. I remember liking the Digimon movie and Summer Wars is basically an expanded remake of the best part of the Digimon movie. Also I love how the key to winning was a card game, a fighting game, and math.
  24. Good News Everyone

There have been a lot of really terrible, depressing things happening in the world lately. While I don't want to try and draw attention away from those very important topics, I think we also need reminders of the good, positive things in this world. So this thread is going to be about positive stories that can hopefully help restore our faith in humanity. Then afterwards we can go back to talking about how terrible everything is.

Econ is a common shortening for economics. In college we referred to all the different engineering disciplines as "____E", as in MechE for mechanical, CivE for civil, ChemE for chemical, etc. The exception was electrical engineers who were double E or ECE (electrical computer engineering).
