I don't think that's what Zeus was saying. At any rate I don't think they made it to drum up controversy. I think they made it cause they're shitty people.

Yep that's the one! Could just be that EN often means English, so they went with ED to avoid confusion. -
Hard to say. It's not super funny, but it has moments. It's not very relaxing, cause they're in a constant state of stressing out about band. But it's not really about the band. It's more about the relationships within the band. But when it goes into the band stuff it goes in hardcore. It's charming and sometimes cute and sometimes why don't you just use your words Kumiko. Goddamnit Kumiko!

Well I like it anyway. I dunno K-On at all.

"ending" japanified would be "e-n-di-n-gu", though, making EN the first two syllabic (katakana, probably, not hiragana, unless it's a weird exception!) characters! U: "opening" would work, though, as it'd probably be "o-pe-ni-n-gu" -
Official Giant Bomb Thread Mostly for Complaining About Dan

It certainly felt that way when I played, but I think that largely comes down to way I was saying earlier, with how if you can't use something for yourself, it's a lot harder to figure out how it works. So you run into this champ who you've played against like three times, but they've played AS a dozen times, and they're obviously going to have more knowledge and experience than you.- 1367 replies

I've spent a ton of money on Dota 2, yeah. More than I'm comfortable admitting! But none of it (barring the weird PA arcana mini-game thing, of which I was at once both a fan and a hater) actually affected gameplay in a match proper. I was under the impression the expansions actually cost real money in Hearthstone, but I've only heard from other people. Everyone seems to buy it outright. Which is fine, I will never berate someone for spending money on something if they want to spend that money. I will, however, berate the developer for all time. That said, if you can grind for it, that makes it a whole lot more tolerable for me, as a concept, although I've played League of Legends, and grinding new champs in that game takes so fucking long as to be utterly worthless. Especially when you buy a champ you think you might like from a few games in the free rotation and then a few games later you wish you'd bought someone else with your magic grindy points. And now you have to wait another few weeks before you've earned enough.- 1367 replies

I actually don't disagree with (most of) what he said. U: But he is obviously missing the point.

Haha, I wasn't berating you, just reiterating my agreement. Honestly I think CCGs are kind of dirty and gross. I like playing them but I don't like their business model at all. Yuck.- 1367 replies

Right, which is why one of the first things I said was tradition wasn't a good defense for bad things! Also there's a reason I don't play CCGs. EDIT: However, Hearthstone is by no means the only example of this happening in video games, so it's kind of a shame that it's the only one people are talking about. It just happens to be the game that triggered the discussion. Plenty of games that aren't CCGs do this.- 1367 replies

Fine, remove the free to play part. Competitive multiplayer. In SC1 I know for damn sure that it never matched you against people who had units that you didn't. Which was my point. In Hearthstone if you can get matched against people who have content in their decks that you don't have access to, that's fucked. I dunno how many other ways I can say it. Oh, here's one. It's not the act of paying for content. It's the act of playing against other people who paid for the content that you can't get without paying.- 1367 replies

I'm one of them! The combat in (most) of those games just gets in the way for me. ):

That's not a free to play game! Also, if I'm not mistaken, wasn't the multiplayer updated regardless of whether or not you had the expansion? Or am I thinking of Starcraft 2? If I'm playing a competitive multiplayer game, and I see that the person I'm playing against has access to content that I can't access without paying extra, that's fucked. That is bad. There is no defending it. It also doesn't matter if it's balanced, because a) nothing in video games is perfectly balanced and I learn by doing, so if I can't use that content to get a feel for how it works, I'm at a disadvantage when I run into someone who is familiar with those mechanics.- 1367 replies

None of that changes my opinion. Free to play games (very specifically free to play competitive games) that hide game content behind a paywall is dumb! Tradition is never an excuse for bad things to happen.- 1367 replies

Well Gillen is from the UK and you and NinjaSquirrel are the only people with a non-American accent and he said not NinjaSquirrel, so that's why I said it was you. U: -
Yeah, exactly!

And that's a problem worth talking about, too! I think addressing surface level problems is just as important, to be honest. If The Witcher had as many people of color as it did white people (or more, since an equal number of all races would make white people the minority, but we gotta start somewhere), that alone would make a lot of people feel less... absent from the game. The majority of the world, in fact, assuming everyone in the world played the game. From there, you can ask other questions, like why do no black people have important roles, or why are all the black people criminals, or whatever problems might exist. Yes, you could've asked something like that to begin with, but change happens slowly. I dunno, I got nothin' else. I just know I've heard from people of color in real life whom I've talked to that even the mere presence of a person of their race feels like a huge step in the right direction. And it's such an incredibly easy step to take!

Ah. I'm not sure what specifically you're referring to, but if I ever said something was awful, it's in that kind of awful way that I love. Like Dragon Ball! I think it's safe to say that out of all the people regularly participating in the anime thread, I probably watch the most trash anime. Well, NinjaSquirrel probably gives me a run for my money! -
Because this is the fight some people have chosen. This is disturbingly similar to an argument I had at work the other day where someone questioned the legitimacy of #BlackLivesMatter because, obviously, "All lives matter!" Well, yes, that's true, but...????? Change, unfortunately (in this case), is a slow process. There's no switch that's going to be flipped overnight and all of a sudden everything's okay. Any progress is still progress.

Everyone is ignorant about a lot of things. I certainly am. But I try to fill that void with knowledge. Certainly, if you talked to me ten years ago, I never would've thought racism actually still existed in our world, because I had never seen it happen. But now, I recognize a lot of things that happened ten years ago and more than ten years ago as actual racism. I was ignorant ten years ago. I'm less ignorant today. Ignorance is simply a lack of knowledge. It can be harmful, but one can't be held responsible unless one intentionally ignores their ignorance and pretends they know everything. Just as bad, possibly worse, I suppose, is when that ignorance becomes knowledge, and you willfully use that knowledge to hurt other people. Obviously CD Projekt is not doing this. Well, at least, I hope so! That would certainly ruin my day if I discovered they were!

I got more used to the motion controls and didn't get motion sickness. I even did some of the online multiplayer! I won one match and lost one match. Game is pretty fun! im rly bad at it tho

But The Witcher 3 doesn't reflect Poland's "local scene", in terms of culture or tone. It reflects Lord of the Rings or Dragon Age or any other generic fantasy thing, except probably a little more mopey and angry in tone. Maybe that's Polish?! The only way that it reflects Poland is in its all-whiteness, which, in this day and age of the internet, something they are obviously aware of, that's not really an excuse. It screams of ignorance. And ignorance is bad, but it, ugh, I'm repeating myself again, isn't a sin, unless it's willful. I don't believe it is willful in this case. But it is what it is, eh. Bollywood and K-dramas aren't relevaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaant because Bollywood and K-dramas aren't a generic dragon-filled fantasyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. (Actually I'm sure Bollywood produces some crazy stuff because I've seen some videos, but all the videos I've seen still take place in India, which is not something The Witcher can say about Poland.) Nobody [here] is accusing them of being "unethical", as far as I can tell. Nor has anything I've read elsewhere, although I definitely believe some people would accuse them suchly. If suchly isn't a word (it's not, unless I'm crazy), it should be.

I dunno. I find it hard to be upset at someone for having a strong opinion. Maybe because I have thousands of strong opinions (and most of them run counter to the popular opinion), so I can understand and empathize with someone sticking to their guns. If that's how he feels, that's how he feels. I think the bigger problem with that was that no one really seemed to want to argue with the idea that "cosmetic" "micro"-transactions are inherently worth less than actual gameplay content in a free to play game. I feel the complete opposite there. If a game is free to play, all of its paid content should be cosmetic and not actually affect gameplay!- 1367 replies
