  1. Fallout 4 — Boston Makes Me Feel Good

I just can't summon any pre-release criticism/skepticism for a game that I will almost certainly play for like 500 hours. I also think it's kind of odd to criticize the graphics, because I just feel grateful that we didn't get a cinematic, prerendered trailer or a 1 minute voiceover with a mostly static Vault door image/animation. The lighting and (probably stable, granted they've been working on this game forever) framerate is enough for me to not really get too fussed about the models and textures, particularly since the latter will be the first things that modders work on. Taking a free shot at Bethesda's game engine is the flavor of the day, but until other devs manage to do what Bethesda does in TES/FO with better graphics I don't think that it's incredibly worthy of putting down so hard.
  2. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Popehat put out a pretty good explainer on this topic. That's all I have to add at the moment!
  3. Destiny

That's pretty interesting, I'm eager to check it out if only briefly. Anyone interested in running the Nightfall tonight? I'll be on around 6PM Eastern, willing to wait for any interested Thumbs but otherwise I'll LFG.
  4. E3 2015

    DS3: Redemption
  5. Destiny

New update is rolling out, TLDR on the post is that you only get one ether key use per chest spawn (no more Sparrow racing), first Queen's Bounty completed every week yields a Treasure Key, and Treasure Keys drop way more from Ether Chests and Small Chests at the end of POE. Also, your inventory is being spared a little more because ammo synths stack to 100 now and the HoJ tokens can be dismantled for HoJ rep.
  6. Fallout 4 — Boston Makes Me Feel Good

Someone on Twitter said that fallout4.com is live, though it seems to be broken right now. At this point, I'd probably even take an HD remake of 3 and/or New Vegas. I can't get enough out of those games.
  7. Idle Food - Cooking!

I also generally dislike uni-taskers, but Alton himself has at least a couple that he keeps for what I consider to be pretty subjective (though well thought out) reasons. I only have two - a garlic press and a ceramic grater (99% of the time used for ginger). Jamie Oliver has with kitchen tips, I like that kind of stuff too.
  8. Idle Food - Cooking!

I remember seeing that video and saying OMG for the first time, but then realized that I don't have huge bowls nor a dishwasher. I usually just use a heavy chef's knife and bash the garlic clove with the side of my blade, does the job though clearly not as magically.
  9. Idle Food - Cooking!

Do you have a "I walked uphill both ways"-style explanation for this? If one doesn't like chopping up garlic (or peeling garlic), it's a good investment. I honestly just think it's a tool of convenience. As another unabashed Alton fanboy, I do know that pressing garlic releases an enzyme that produces the strong garlic odor so I usually don't use my press in favor of chopping. But at some point and for some people, convenience trumps "just use a chef's knife!" and there's nothing I or anyone else can do to stop them wanting an easier time in the kitchen.
  10. Idle Food - Cooking!

Mark Bittman's How to Cook Everything is basically my definitive, simple cookbook for general purposes. Joy of Cooking is probably the more traditional pick for these purposes, but Bittman has a more modern approach that encompasses food from all over the world, talks about food in a tone I appreciate, etc. For what it's worth, I also really like Paprika for phones. It's a recipe management tool that pulls in recipes from other sites and presents them in a much better format than pretty much any recipe site I frequent. Also also, a garlic press is an excellent investment.
  11. E3 2015

... I kinda like latter-day Killzone, I totally wouldn't mind another. I mean, I don't care at all about its multiplayer though so I'm not fully crazy.
  12. Destiny

Pure strength helm + Pulse Rifle with Shank Burn from Variks. He really is a piece of garbage.
  13. XCOM 2

I would have been pretty happy if they called it XCOM: Enemy EVERYWHERE
  14. Life

I secretly linked it for that reason, it's super addictive and I need to spread the virus to others so I don't feel so bad about having spent hours and hours ranking.
  15. Destiny

Fair point, really hope Variks gives us a non-strength roll tomorrow. Plus, if you need to upgrade your gloves I think the Iron Banner gear maxes at 36 before ascension. Random thing I remembered - picked up the Nothing Manacles this weekend, turns out that HoW Exotics come pre-ascended so all you need is a single Exotic Shard to fully upgrade them. Pretty nice deal if one goes on offer again and looks good.
  16. Destiny

It's almost all 33/34, saw a couple 32s but didn't fare incredibly well. I think the level matters less than having weapons you're good with that are fully upgraded. I'd much rather prefer a 365/331/331 L32 over a 2XX/2XX/2XX L33. Also, I think coordination really matters most. The teams that do bad are the ones where half of the team is rushing and the other sniping on two sides of the map, or they're all really close together and primed for a couple grenades. In some matches it doesn't matter if you're good or bad, the other team will just all load up on snipers and make every shot with no hesitation. In almost all the others, it has to do with team sense, deploying supers properly, dying in good places, and using builds/weapons you're comfortable with. Are you really far away from L33? A PoE Armor Core chest armor and maxed exotic helmet/arms/legs would do it, should be fairly attainable.
  17. Life

I kinda feel like the films are the worst part of Star Wars. I watch them a lot because they have parts that give me chills and can't really be replicated in games or in books like they can on a big screen, but the best Star Wars stories can be found elsewhere and I think I haven't felt as much "MAN STAR WARS IS GREAT" as when I played stuff like Jedi Knight or KOTOR.

    XCOM 2 ANNOUNCED OMG http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/06/01/xcom-2-announced-ign-first
  19. Destiny

Unfortunately no, you just get to explore a very small space. I will say that for a FPS, Destiny does an amazing job at constructing environments that are actually logical and create a sense of place. I wish that there was a real FPSRPG set in Destiny's world, but I get the sense that Bungie is not really a studio that wants to do more than a fairly linear story (maybe with wide paths, but nothing "open world") and competitive multiplayer.
  20. Life

There are a tiring amount of examples of when nerds think that their opinions about a thing are objectively right, I've just tried to recontextualize stuff like Star Wars as "the best movie for me". It's really hard to divorce the idea of something being the best from the fact that Star Wars practically defined my early teens. I remember using Flickchart to construct my best movies of all time list and there's maybe one in my top 10 that "everyone" might agree actually might have a shot in the "actual" best top 10.
  21. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I remember when I first played FTL and got hosed like 10 times on that flagship to the point of frustration, my thought was "this is like a Star Trek game where the whole game you're fighting Romulans and Klingons, but then the final boss is a Borg Tactical cube that you can't run away from like they always do in the show".
  22. Destiny

The gaudy gold shader really helps, I actually think that most of the rare shaders are guady in a weirdly appealing way. Kinda love the Glowhoo, wish I could figure out a good set of armor for it. Nothing mindblowing from the Lighthouse chest, got another Etheric Light (this would have been mindblowing had I not gotten two already through tier packages), 4 motes, 3 passage coins, and an Arc Auto Rifle. Actually most excited about the rifle, I already used it quite a bit in the non-Arc variety so this is even better. Plus, it's already 365 damage and the perks are solid. I still need to run L32 weekly (not a huge priority since I ran L30) and PoE 32 on my Warlock, otherwise I'm all wrapped up until tomorrow's reset. I also wouldn't mind running more ToO if anyone needs a third, it's not a big priority for me but I don't have any Watcher's gear and I'm kinda hungry for that Legendary jumpship so I wouldn't mind hopping in. One more Lighthouse shot, I really love the look of that area -
  23. Destiny

    Obligatory Lighthouse selfie -
  24. Direct X 12 and Xbox One streaming seem to be the most notable things at this particular moment. Also, "fixing Windows 8" if you're a person who feels like W8 needs to be fixed and you have any confidence that Microsoft can do it.
  25. Splatoon is Ink-redible

Not only 19.2%, but he's also 7 minutes late to pull the thread-creation trigger!
