Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.
Donk replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
I have no problem quitting a game if it's truly shitty. However I like to think I make informed game purchases, I consume a lot of gaming news, podcasts and discussions so I'm fairly sure about what I'm about to play. -
Awesome episode, I really like blendo games and the philosophy of making shorter but tighter games, a nice change from the norm.

Psyched and backed! My only fear is that it's just a pitch video. They seem to have the right ideas though, I sincerely hope they do them justice.

Is it not available in Europe on Steam? I saw the links to the Steam store when it came out but it said it wasn't available in my region ( Still not showing up for me in Steam search or in the Double Fine catalog page. I'm in Iceland to be precise.

Don't get sucked in to making art and assets, it can be a huge time sink while developing and it will not further the games progress at all. It's fun to play with it but I really have to force myself to stick with placeholders to be able to get anywhere. I always tell myself I'll get some help with assets if the game turns out to be something I'd like to see through.

Many times, I always find myself in too ambitious ideas and I run out of steam. However I made an effort the other day in finishing a game. To do this I scaled everything back as far as I could, algorithms, code design (hardcode ALL THE THINGS), art and assets (i.e. NO ASSETS), gameplay mechanics (input wound up being just one button). The gameplay was done in a few hours, what really took most of the time was setting it up as a game, level structure, menu, scoring, health/lives, game state management. Anyways I already posted about it here in the "Plug your shit" thread but here it is again. I just realized it doesn't have a name, you will get a mention in my next game credits if you come up with a cool name for it https://dl.dropbox.c...esta/testa.html

Yes SeleCT is still going strong, he's been streaming lately and interacting with chat and he's going to MLG championships, will be cool to follow him.

Yeah this sucks, Jinro was one the first players I started following, watched his stream, his more recent training for the Code A qualifiers and how close he was to winning his qualifier games. I wonder what would have happened if he had made it :/

I make HTML5 Javascript experiments that are pretty alright
Donk replied to rwcohn's topic in Idle Banter
This is awesome, I make music myself and have always been thinking about how easy it would be to add javascript visualizations. I did a quick experiment with livestreaming myself playing around in Ableton Live and having visualizations in a window. No fancy vis just cycled animated gifs pulled from Steve Gaynor's tumblr (http://rekall.tumblr.com/) which is trippy.- 15 replies

"But what am I supposed to do with all this cheese?"

I had rage quit it before but now I'm loving it, blew through the first 3 chapters in 2 sittings. It's awesome.

Just finished El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron. What a crazy game, story could only come from Japan and the visuals are very stylized and spectacular. A brand new visual style and theme every chapter felt disjointed, like their shader and graphics libraries they had but never got to use were all dumped in to this game. It's a red orb action game but the combat is very simple compared to other similar games, one attack button, 2-3 combos per weapon (there are 4) but for the normal difficulty playthrough I did it was rather satisfying. I'm curious to see how it actually works out in the hardcore modes that were unlocked when I finished (2 more difficulties, new game plus, leaderboards). I'm doubtful it holds up. I had my stream running, you can see my journey through the Book of Enoch right .

Psyched! how long does it take to play through once?

Just finished Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Was rather fun actually, nice set of abilities and the force physics provided some amusing gameplay at times.

I want to start paying for music too but living in a small island country with a population of 350.000, pretty much everything is "Not available in your region". Can anybody explain to me again why, in the year 2012, in the age of communications, people won't take my money?

Yeah the hitbox was lazy It's just the center mass, I didn't feel like adding the rest, it's 10 min of work but boring 10 min
-
I just might, it needs powerups at least. It'll take a while though, will nwed to clean up a lot of code if I am to add more featureso

Hey Thumbs I made a video game. I cut everything down to absolute minimum to be able to finish it, design, gameplay, assets, coding. Just keeping it simple. Have a look and tell me what you think!

Had a kid 5 days ago, that was an experience, and has been since then. He's already proving to be a chill dude, sleeps a lot drinks a lot and otherwise just likes to hang out. Here he is on his way home for the first time

What video game or game series would you like to see become a movie?
Donk replied to bishvabis's topic in Video Gaming
Granted the movies would do the source material justice: Thief Stalker/Metro 2033 Cryostasis Bayonetta Homeworld and of course QWOP -
Idle Thumbs plays BioShock with JP LeBreton
Donk replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
This was awesome, Thumbs and industry insiders and video games and viewer participation all live and on video. More please! -
I resub 2-3 times per year, do some missions, some mining and try to kill at least one other player. It's fun. So much stuff to do in this game. I've touched only a fraction of this: http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Guide
