  1. Modest Tech: The NX Generation (Nintendo Switch)

Honestly, in terms of UI or any non-games things, the worst thing about the Switch is the horrible navigation on the store. Would you like a list of every game in alphabetical order, in release order, or just to see the things that are on sale? You have no other options, so I hope one of those works for you. Also, if you put something on your wishlist, it will remain there forever until you remove it manually, even if you buy the game. Trying to bookmark a new release you're interested in until payday? I hope you remember to go remove it once you get paid lest your wishlist get full of things you already own!
  2. Modest Tech: The NX Generation (Nintendo Switch)

Overcooked is good for multiplayer. Single player, I've really enjoyed Golf Story and am liking Human Fall Flat. Tried getting into Stardew Valley, but there may just be too much for me there. With how many things they put in that game I find myself pulled in all directions at once and don't reach a satisfying point in any of them. And yeah, Snipperclips is choice #1. I got a Labo. Built half a piano tonight. I enjoy constructing things. Looking forward to playing with it later!
  3. Jeff Goldblum

It is the third I have seen, the others being French New Wave (very good) and Nier Automata alternate endings (EXTREMELY good). I enjoy this meme.
  4. LucasArts adventure games on GOG and Steam

Yeah, I was 13, so probably in a very similar vote. When I logged into The SCUMM Bar and saw all the disappointed people who'd grown up on the earlier games I didn't understand at all. (Not to say I hadn't grown up on them a bit. MI2 was one of the first games I'd ever played thanks to a friend lending me that disc from a LucasArts Adventure pack, but I had limited access/experience with the rest of the catalogue.)

Man, I haven't played CoMI since I still lived in my mum's house. It's been nearly a decade. I gotta get on this and see how it holds up.

What kind of magical place do you live where the liquor store also sells ice cream?
  7. Hoisted

Old timer thumbs will remember the days of the ExtRemo.
  8. Modest Tech: The NX Generation (Nintendo Switch)

I also work with ten year olds, so worst case scenario is that I bring it to work for a day near the summer vacation and the kids get a kick out of it.
  9. Best Third-Person Shooters

For me what makes Third Person shooters special is the possibility of an advanced movement system. Moving around an open world with freedom is the main appeal of any third person game to me. As such, Just Cause 2 &3, Saints Row 3 & 4, Splatoon, Max Payne, Vanquish, and their ilk are the ones that I love the most. If I'm flying from firefight to firefight in a way that feels good and pulling ridiculous stunts along the way, I'm usually going to let a LOT more slide than I would with other games.
  10. Modest Tech: The NX Generation (Nintendo Switch)

I may have already pre-ordered both sets...
  11. Sports!

This isn't about hockey. Where is the sport?
  12. Bayonetta

Most of the plot is actually super referential to the first game, which was also largely nonsense. The whole thing makes very little sense, but having a grasp on the first does help. Long story short, God created two gems that controlled reality, gave one to the lumen and one to the umbra with the intention of balance between light and dark. Then the lumen and umbra fucked that up by letting two of their members have a baby with each other (Bayonetta). In the first game, light (run by Bayonetta's father, Balder, who also controlled the lumen gem) made a play for the other gem which had manifested itself inside Bayonetta and was attempting to use the two to give god a physical form. Bayonetta kills Balder (who is brought back in Bayonetta 2 thanks to time travel as a past version of himself from before he'd lost his damn mind called "The Masked Lumen", which is why that dude matters), then actually punches god into the sun at the climax of that game. The finale of two explains why Balder went crazy in the first game, actually, making the story of the two games weirdly cyclical. The end of two leads into the start of one, then the end of one leads back into two, thanks to Loki's weird time shit pulling Balder from time period to time period. One is definitely a harder game and less polished, but I'm really glad that I played them back to back over two weeks. It was a really good two weeks. Going into 1 after finishing 2 would be kinda jarring. They're very similar to one another, but if you feel the urge to replay B2 in a few years, consider picking up the first at that time and trying them back to back. Very fun.
  13. I have mostly been playing on Easy since I'm traditionally bad at strategy games, but have only lost once so I should probably step it up. It's a very good game. Regarding that one loss, I recommend not taking a pilot that you're attached to on a run to get a feel for a brand new squad. I'm sorry, Smashy Stan. (I rename everyone to what their mech does).

We used the exact same teams. They are very good teams. Luigi is sniper of the year.
  15. Bayonetta

So over the past week I have replayed Bayo 1 and am 3 chapters into 2 for the second time as well. As great as 1 is, playing them back to back has really underlined for me just how much of a leap forward 2 really is. Everything just feels so much tighter and better. Don't get me wrong, I still love 1, and I had a great time replaying it (and after finishing 2 will probably go back in and do some more things for higher rankings), but man: fucking Bayonetta fucking 2. So good. I am so happy that they ported these to the switch. Even if 3 is a disappointment, having these two amazing games that I can just play while lying in bed is worth it. I really hope 3 does right by the series. Side note: This is making me want to go back and play DmC again. There really isn't anything quite like the feeling that an amazing character action game gets you into.
  16. Didactic Thumbs (Pedantry Corner)

I've never heard a native Calgarian say anything other than "Cal-gree", or maybe "Cal-guh-ree" at a stretch. Everyone who rhymes it with hairy moved here later in life.

Spenny, you're Canadian too, man. We both know the way Newfoundladers speak is beyond broken...
  18. Modest Tech: The NX Generation (Nintendo Switch)

I beat Mario and Rabbids last night! Whoo! It's a really good game, you guys. Nothing much new to say about it. I don't know if I'll be going back to do the challenge levels though. I feel like I got just enough of the game by going through the campaign. I wish there had been more motivation to switch up my squad. By the time I got Rabbid Yoshi (let alone regular Yoshi) I had learned the ins and outs of the Mario + Luigi + Rabbid Peach trio so well that I was unstoppable. The only things I ever didn't get perfect on were boss fights. The only thing I really wanted to do was swap Rabbid Peach for regular, but there's that weird restriction where you have to have at least one Rabbid in your party at all times. Oh well. Definitely done with the game for now, but feel very satisfied. Next up for me is also Bayonetta/Bayonetta 2 (pre-loaded both already!), but I'm thinking that by the time Donkey Kong comes out I'll be ready to go back in and see how he plays.
  19. The Last Guardian

The reason that it was possible in those other games that you mentioned was that the old game was still running underneath and it really was just a graphical pass being done. With Shadow, they rebuilt the entire game, so there is no PS2 original behind the scenes that they can switch to.
  20. The hilarious Human: Fall Flat

I remember the Giant Bomb QL of this being hilarious but also looking like it would not be super fun to actually play. I may need to give it a look. I know it's on Switch. Does anyone have any experience with that (or another console) version?
  21. Call me Ishmael_353 (Sea Of Thieves)

I preordered this when it was announced because Amazon had an E3 deal going. I got my pre-order for $35(CAN), and the game will now cost $80, so I don't have the heart to cancel it unless the game looks real bad. I will likely see you out on the waters! We should see if we can get a Thumb ship going. I'd love this to be a multiplayer game that I actually care about.
  22. New people: Read this, say hi.

Welcome! I follow Waypoint, but don't have the time/patience to engage with more than one forum, so just hang here. Pretty sure there'd be a lot of overlap, whether you recognize the names or not.
