[Released] Sit in a Row and Stare at the Wall

Fun little interactive space and some good gags! Like playing as Duke Nukem's refined older brother. -
[Release] The Pizza, the Bee, and the Trash Can
Ben X replied to One8Two8's topic in Wizard Jam 5 Archive
This is adorable - lovely Roger Hargreaves illustration style and a jaunty tune. I didn't know what the hell I was doing (couldn't get honey to appear, for example), but I sure killed me some bees! -
YET ANOTHER public announcement: you can edit your thread title by editing the first post and using Full Editor. No need to create a separate release thread! (And while you're there, remember to put your link in somewhere!)

Cute little horror game! I like how the audio design builds to become overwhelming, and the enemy speed/level layout combines to force you to check your corners constantly. It's one-hit death, which meant I died a lot without warning, so I watched your video for the ending!
-
This looks absolutely gorgeous, right down to the bloomy DOS prompt menu screens, and the audio design's really nice. It's also technically very impressive. Unfortunately it is far too hard for me - forced (slow) scrolling, wall of death, enemies that explode on death or turn into mines if they land on the floor, free-aiming and only three health points. I found VVVVVV easier than this! I'll have to try it again if you ever patch in a baby mode. A tip for anyone playing this - wall-jumping is possible (after a fashion), and in fact necessary to progress. PS - the gif in your OP is broken [edit: I won't post again for this - BigJKO says it's fine. I can open it in a new tab but it's broken on this page for me, ah well]

Fatchel. Another public announcement: remember to allow comments on your game page if you want them. Some games are set to only allow you to comment if you provide a rating, which some people (including myself) may not want to do.

[RELEASE] The Purity of a Child's Boredom
Ben X replied to getinthedamnbox's topic in Wizard Jam 5 Archive
A weird little curio, I enjoyed poking at the edges of it! EDIT: woah! -
Works fine for me! Great art here - the retro tile graphics and the demon portraits - and an amusingly weird story. Some cool puzzle rules too, though I did feel like I was just brute forcing rather than thinking, though, and a skip button would have really helped when repeating levels!

Better Than Dear Esther and Kentucky Route Zero combined. Very good voice-acting (reminded me of Kevin McDonald ) and a really cool mix of visuals that combine the end of Contact with Sam And Max Hit The Road along with a ton of other stuff, and comedy that lands the majority of the time. I really enjoyed this, and I'd love to play a deeper version of it where you can go in the buildings, open wardrobes etc to find more weird stuff! Questions:

[Release] Disable Enemies to Reveal Enemies
Ben X replied to SuperBiasedMan's topic in Wizard Jam 5 Archive
Is there a link? -
This is very slick and satisfying! Nice tutorial, clean graphics, and intuitive, tactile controls. I really liked the gradual layering of puzzle elements too. I would have liked to have the option to go even faster so I could experiment with new elements a bit more, and perhaps some way of making it easier to figure out what damage each action or enemy is going to give/require. I got stuck on the lasers level! Thinking about it, I wonder if you have to I, uh, don't suppose there are level codes or anything..?
-
Great walking simulator! This is really successful at portraying a mild anti-authority vibe, where you can sneak through fences and pull pranks but still have stoned chats with cops. The visual fidelity is really well-pitched as well; it gives you enough sense of geography but still makes everything feel hazy and nostalgic. The only criticism I'd give is that the second area was a little too dark - took me a while to figure out where I could go.
-
Lovely presentation - clean graphics and cute little inter-level transition scenes, with a chill little music track. It's actually quite punishing, due to the controls and lack of mid-level save-points, so I only got halfway through!

[Delayed] Business Guys on Planes: Conflict in the Middle Seat
Ben X replied to dibs's topic in Wizard Jam 4 Archive
Hey, you added this to Wizard Jam 5! Is it good to go? @dibs @BigJKO -
Oh, and to clarify about the setting to public thing that *ahem* FartSatchel mentioned: you have to save your game page, then edit it to set it to public. I think that's new, not sure.

It's an itchio! https://timegentleman.itch.io/the-robots-lips I'm really happy how well this came together in 4 days. We got a nice little platformer going with a few different enemy types, and it looks and sounds lovely. There are apparently a couple of little bugs in there, though I haven't encountered them, and one (rare) game-stopper (if one of the end-level enemies run offscreen you'll have to restart). It takes about 3 minutes to play through, so give it a go!

Yes, they did. It was to make it midnight for PST or something!

Okay, I'm not that bad.

Hoisted! Looks gorgeous, well done.

Yep indeed, Atlantic's made us some cool avant-garde music including that piece! (Have edited them into the OP.) With 18 hours left, work continues on the systems and art while I gather together some sound effects and a title screen. Hopefully we'll get a little time for polish at the end. It'll be quite a small game but it's already looking really cute! Here's a gif from a couple of days ago when we put some initial stuff together:

Sounds good. It would possibly also be a good idea to mentally prepare yourself (in a relaxed way!) to put your foot down when they ask too much of you, and have a big list of how much above-and-beyond stuff you've done for them. I always get caught off-guard when employers take the piss, and fail to react as strongly as I should.

I think I prefer the previous colour scheme as it feels more like ancient Japanese art, but the new colour scheme is pleasingly crisp.

I hope you really are doing what you can about work stress, because in a lot of your posts about it you seem to be doing a lot more for your work than could reasonably be expected of a human being...

I'm going to try something a little unusual here. I'd like to collaborate on a jam game with people who haven't found a team yet, in the remaining week-ish. Pitch: Don't know yet, something very simple (probably 2D but depends on the team) What I need: programmer, artist, music/sound What I'm doing: design/writing/organisation Contact Info: PM me here, DM me on twitter @timegentleman Time Zone: UTC +1 (i.e. BST) Portfolio: My dusty old portfolio is in my sig, plus I've made an entry for each Jam so far, often cramming it into the last few days! I'm hoping to gather a team quickly, come up with an episode title and general idea together, then have fun making a small game in the time remaining. If I don't get a ton of response today, I'll probably PM people in the Team Seeking thread. If there's not enough response I'll sit this jam out and enjoy playing all the amazing stuff being made!
