[Dev Log] The First Great Brand War
Ben X replied to infamous space turtle's topic in Wizard Jam 6 Archive
You know what, rather than delay this further, I won't bother mocking it up as it will inevitably look like crap anyway. (Perhaps you could crowd-source art duties for the adverts separately!) The idea is: Name: "Wizard Jam". Slogan: "Spread The Magic!" Image: A wizard brandishes an oversized butter-knife in place of a wand, and 'zaps' out a stream of jam. (This stream could possibly culminate in a 'splat' border for the slogan.) Depending on space, could include an image of the product's cauldron-shaped jam jar. If you're happy with crappy advert art, I can knock something up tomorrow! -
I like the jerky stop-motion feel!

Looks gorgeous! Reminds me of the A Thousand Dormant Machines entry from WJ5. I've got an advert idea, hopefully I'll be able to mock it up and post it here in the next few hours -
welcome WIZARD JAM 6 // Welcome Thread
Ben X replied to zerofiftyone's topic in Wizard Jam 6 Archive
Hi all, So people can easily browse the board for games, and see if they're ready to play, I recommend adding a [devlog] to the front of your thread title, and then changing that to [released] when it's finished and available (or [canceled] if you don't make it!). You can either edit your OP (you used to need to choose 'Full Editor' to change the title, but it seems that's no longer the case) or simply hover your cursor over the title and then click and hold to edit it. Some people are using tags instead, and that also works well. It's very satisfying to see all those devlogs flip at the end of the jam!- 56 replies

There are no hard rules, so calling it something else is probably the best way forward, if... nontraditional. Perhaps you could find another ep title that fits better, or use a quote from the episode (or keep the title and just stick some pearls and swine in the corner somewhere!)... @Salacious Snake you might want to make a thread so your game doesn't get missed in the play through weekend...- 56 replies

Holy shit that was a boring movie.

One of the images should be an advert for the AI app in @supasheep's jam entry!

Raiders?

NPC: kindly yet sad, bald old man. Dialogues: "*sigh* My hat blew away in the psionic storm." "It was a family heirloom!" "I wonder if some brave soul could venture out and find it for me..."

In the Valley of Gods - Indie-film Ana Jones (Campo Santo's New Valve Game) is Canceled Forever
Ben X replied to TychoCelchuuu's topic in Video Gaming
Gotta lot of fond memories of that doANYWAY this game looks awesome. I would like the film-loading animations to be three times as long as she fiddles with threading it through the camera, though.- 124 replies

+1 Just make the design INCREDIBLY SIMPLE. Aim to have it finished in half the time you have, with the rest for polish, bug-hunting, scope-increase etc.- 56 replies

Sorry I haven't updated in a while. I'm hoping to get back to this over Christmas. In the meantime, Homefront is free on Humble at the mo. Seems it got mixed reviews, and it's a 2011 game, so I'm not sure if I'll slot it into this playthrough, but it's going in my Steam library!

[Dev Log] The First Great Brand War

The brand one sounds more interesting to me, especially if the propaganda is all readable (maybe you could crowd source them, or parts of them for a random generator, on the forums). -
Copy the one from last year?

I think he got mucked about a fair bit on the last one, which may also be a contributing factor.

Marvel Netflix shows (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, etc.)
Ben X replied to SecretAsianMan's topic in Movies & Television
Anyone watched Punisher? I don't think I can be bothered unless the general reaction is that it's the best yet, which I haven't sensed elsewhere. -
I watched Spider-Man Homecoming (and realised during it - perhaps not for the first time - that the "homecoming" title is a reference to Spidey returning to Marvel) yesterday, and Thor Ragnarok today. Homecoming was fine, but it was another Marvel movie that made me think "yeah, I see what you're trying to do here and you almost hit it", like Ant-Man going for cool heist caper or Winter Soldier going for old War spy thriller. It's often the aggressive overlapping with the MCU that scuppers it, which felt like the case here. The end credits had more youthful, anarchic energy than the rest of the film put together, and Spidey doesn't feel well-defined as a hero - he's more like Iron Boy here. It felt like a solid springboard for a great sequel though. Ragnarok, meanwhile, was not just a good MCU entry but legitimately a fantastic film. I saw what it was trying to do and it fucking did it. I haven't enjoyed a Marvel film on its own terms so much since at least Iron Man 3. (I also previously caught up on Dr Strange - fun if disposable - and GotG Vol 2 - an even bigger mess than the first film.)

We need all the usual asset-sharing and team-building threads up! I really don't think I'll be around to do anything this jam - unless I find a couple of days to cobble something together - and perhaps not even to play through as many of the entries. But I'll try!- 56 replies

I loved LoG and Psychoville (which was just Shearsmith and Pemberton, btw). Inside No. 9 ranges from brilliant to okay. I couldn't get the Christmas special out of my head for months. Speaking of LoG, they're currently filming three new episodes for the anniversary. I would normally be worried, but the other stuff they're doing now is still generally fantastic.

Ah, brillo, will take a look. I'd discovered that it was on Soundcloud but didn't think there'd be a way around the no-download setting (why the fuck do podcasts do that anyway?). Thanks!
