Ah, okay, I must have fluked it!

I managed it on my first attempt (on my recent playthrough anyway) by

    Both excellent ideas!
  4. Yeah, she plays the emotionless Vulcan/android/drone Trek type well , and she was good in the one episode I've seen so far where she had more to do (where everyone's in status for a month). Has anyone actually gone on record as saying she was brought in to attract a male audience? It always felt to me more like a sop to existing Trekkies to raise their interest in Voyager, probably because to me she isn't as good-looking as an Evangeline Lily, say; I figured they'd got a good actress in but decided to pretty her up as much as possible (with a little non-obtrusive bit of plastic stuck on her face) and as she fortuitously had big knockers they high-fived and put her in a body-sculpted catsuit. If they really wanted to attract a new male audience they could have cast Yasmine Bleeth or something. But maybe that's just me - it worked on Gormongous at least! Well, it's far from the first time that Trek had dollied up its female cast, but it's a shame they didn't leave that behind along with Troi's miniskirt. At least they don't have her doing a T'Pol and "decontaminating" by getting down to her undies and covering herself in lube, or indeed simply stripping down to her undies for the camera, as in Into Darkness. Anyway, just watched Equinox, and I see what you guys mean by Janeway being so uneven - she's gone completely mental! Does this get followed up on at all, or just forgotten? Her actions are incredibly heinous in this episode and seem to have been forgotten about by the end of it because she pulled a sad face when SPOILER that captain died.
  5. You may also want to post this in the Game Jams thread on the Game Dev board.
  6. I keep meaning to post - Seven Of Nine's uniform is fucking ridiculous, whatever exoplating excuses they want to come up with ("you're used to having big clunky armour on, so you'll probably be most comfortable getting sewn into a skintight one-piece"). Her tits take over every scene she's in, it's really distracting and feels pretty seedy.
  7. Just watched the end of DS9. EDIT: Just watched the cold open for the Voyager episode "Relativity", and it's a very similar set-up to LOST's

Ohhh yeah. Remember to consequently play it through again and consequently think about what the disparity means!

I haven't played the game at all yet! I was hoping to hear someone sum up their opinion of it rather than be directed to making my own, and I like Film Crit Hulk, so I'll look at those articles, thanks.
  15. LOST

I'm sure we've talked about the show a bit in the TV/movie thread, but what the hell: let's start a thread on it, about 2 years too late. I'm a massive Lost fan and I enjoyed all six seasons. I'll try not to get too fervent about it, but I really wanted to discuss the big problems some people here (and many people everywhere) had with the show. So, continuing from the mini-discussion that's just erupted in the ME3 thread. I'll quickly recap. PREVIOUSLY ON THUMBS: (Oh god, :broken: ) Murdoc also PMed me (I assume you won't mind me putting this here, Murdoc): Murdoc: I just don't quite understand how anyone could get as far as the end of S5 and then just give up! It did kind of do a GvD thing, but that wasn't the only thing happening by any means. I guess if you weren't involved in it enough to keep going, it's probably not a good idea to insist you watch the final season. But you should definitely do a six-day marathon and watch all six seasons in one go. (The Prince Charles did this a while back and I'm gutted that I missed it.) Mike: I'd really like some (spoiler-tagged?) elaboration on your views. I disagree with pretty much everything you've said, but I'm not quite sure of your reasoning. Twig: the first two seasons probably are the strongest, but it's generally the way that the start of something is the most satisfying because it has the most forward momentum. The fact that the show managed to keep evolving and still be putting out really good stuff in its sixth season that felt part of a whole is, I think, really impressive. Can't say that for many dramas.
  16. LOST

Well, I don't think mainlining it really helps either - it works much better watching an episode a week (or a day if you're really impatient). And while they were making shit up without answers for the pilot, they also already had a few things in mind such as the hatch. And by a few episodes in they had planned a lot of broad strokes for the plot and mythology - you can see them setting stuff up for season 3 and beyond.
  17. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

I posted about the other stuff in the Feminism thread...

So, moving on with that thread of discussion in the MGS thread: Firstly, can someone please summarise why it sucks that the (villain?) in MGS and the enemies in Arkham City use misogynistic language? I'm pretty sure I agree that it does, but I can't coalesce my thoughts on it. Secondly, re. Thrik talking about using terms like "bitch" or "cunt" in a generically perjorative but not misogynistic way, I used to do this, but after someone (I think on here) pointed out that even though I might not be using them in that way, the terms do contribute to or signify an accepted misogynist mindset in society (that other person phrased it better!). So I now try to only use gender-neutral terms like "arsehole".
  19. LOST

Thankfully, I was almost completely divorced from the marketing - I never saw a preview or advert (apart from some billboards for Season 4 on Sky for which their tag was indeed "ANSWERS ARE COMING"), and certainly never went on forums or listened to the podcast. I also learnt never to bring it up in conversation, because some people just don't understand "no spoilers please". So you could be right, because I certainly realised very early on that there was no point in waiting on tenterhooks for anything to be explained, at least not before the end of the series and not without just raising more questions.

A nice article here, revisiting LOST via a single episode: http://www.avclub.com/article/revisiting-lost-can-we-finally-see-man-behind-curt-202462
  21. BioShock Infinite

I don't want to derail this thread (especially as we have a LOST thread already), but I'll just say that I liked the ending to LOST and I think the show kept its quality up throughout. The weakest season is 4 imo, because although it's doing lots of cool flashforward stuff, the actual island plot is just moving groups of people back and forth for little to no reason (moreso than usual). It still has loads of great stuff in it, though. Season 3 does get off to a slow start after the amazing opening scene, thanks to the writers strike and a lack of end-date, but it picks up very quickly.
  22. Oculus rift

Yeah, this is a gold mine! My Oculus-Facebook tweet got 18 RTs and 16 favourites!
  23. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

Eh, that's still a bit much to ask just to satisfy my own mild curiosity!
