  2. Return of the Steam Box!

I think valve has said SteamOS plans include sorting the library by spec and component. It's more complicated than consoles but also more simple than most PC gaming, which is a black box until you do light research.
  3. Idle Thumbs 10th Anniversary

Ha! Well, those decisions came from a level above any of the names mentioned, including Nick Breckon's mine. Oh well. I actually didn't have trouble with the movement once I got used to it but it's definitely not as elegant as pointing and clicking.
  4. Idle Thumbs 10th Anniversary

This thread makes me very happy. Ha now I want to hear this episode...
  5. Idle Thumbs 10th Anniversary

    Jesus Idle Thumbs is old.
  6. Broken Age - Double Fine Adventure!

I did not say investing, I said financing. Investing is one type of financing, kickstarting is another, but both have financiers who would like very much to know how you're spending their money. For sure. Massive Chalice, their second Kickstarter project, is 100% public and it's great.
  7. Broken Age - Double Fine Adventure!

They should be MORE open. I think Double Fine Adventure's biggest flaw is that 100% of open development is behind the backer paywall. Right now they're being open exclusively with backers, but being open to your financiers is nothing new, whether they're more traditional like a publisher or VC investor, or something new like a Kickstarter backer collective. Being open to those people is not strange; in fact, they (including backers) usually demand it. A world where the Broken Age documentary episodes and other content was occasionally day and date released to the public, and where all the rest of the content was time delayed a few weeks, would probably be pretty aimilar to our current world in most ways, but the public conversation about Broken Age would be healthier and more informed. (Also maybe even more people would buy the game -- those backer exclusives are great enthusiast marketing that can't be seen by anyone but people who already bought the game! In a way that's really cool, but it's also kind of a waste.)
  8. Yeah the digital package is also going out soon. Eight years later.
  9. Got the test prints for the vinyl EP in the mail today. Assuming they sound alright they go into manufacturing next week.
  10. Broken Age - Double Fine Adventure!

Also the review embargo got lifted.
  11. It'll be out before the next episode! Sorry for the delay.
  12. Dunno but use the Breckon code if you do anything now.
  13. Idle Thumbs 137: Data Complete A single tap on your window. You turn. A flash, and the faint sound of a woman's voice, synthesized. "Data Complete." You look down to the street and catch a glimpse of an anodized aluminum foot disappearing around the corner. You return to your video game, and notice it is tailored impeccably to your tastes. Games Discussed: Starbound, DayZ, Take On Helicopters, Just Cause 2 Multiplayer Mod, Spelunky Listen on the Episode Page Listen in iTunes Subscribe to the RSS Feed
  14. Yeah it sucks/is bad. We're investigating what's up. (We won't be able to fix it for this episode, but for next week!)
  15. My unasked for 2 cents: It's stronger without bylines. When the front of the site and its reviews are faceless and nameless, it promotes objectivity. If you put a name on a review which has a score, I think it stomps on the joke because Name + Score = Opinion. Keeping the bank of names on a credits page alleviates that. Don't let sentimentality get in the way of your objectivity!
  16. Cure your shameful hangover with an Idle New Years Podblast! Welcome to 2014. https://www.idlethumbs.net/idlethumbs/episodes/happy-news-year
  17. Places for selling merchandise

Teespring is somewhere between a preorder and a kickstarter and fulfillment and manufacturer for t-shirts. eg: http://teespring.com/grickle . It seems the idea is that you can set a minimum size for your run, take pre-orders, and when that number is hit, they will make screen printed (as in: not shitty cafepress style) shirts for you and ship them to your buyers. That's obviously only good for tshirts, though it is cool that the infrastructure for such a thing exists.
  18. Request: make it a "congrats nick" sign this time, in honor of 2014: the year of nick breckon.
  19. Hey! Hat Barons! Other stuff! Our gift to you: this mailbag podblast. It seems both December 25 and January 1 land on Wednesdays this year, making for the best podcasting schedule of all time. Enjoy! Download and listen here! https://www.idlethumbs.net/idlethumbs/episodes/a-christmas-blast
  20. Super Mario 3D World

Sounds like you'd need to make everyone huddle up and say "one two three jump" and the sorts of things that you have to do in LBP co-op sessions of difficult, platformey levels. I like that sort of stuff but it really depends on your friend group. Also I love the crown.
  21. Did we use the word ripoff? Saying it uses the same basic starter gameplay language of Minecraft (and saying it as praise/something interesting) is nearly infinite miles from saying its a ripoff.
  22. Walking Dead Season the Second

I think the way it works on PSN is that you have to buy ep 1 and then the season pass appears when DLC starts to appear. I don't know for sure though.
  23. Idle Thumbs 135: That's My Goof I know you read about this episode, but that's not quite how it happened. Jake was unable to resist the temptation of Super Mario 3D World and became completely enveloped by it. Sean was charmed by Call of Juarez: Gunslinger but wants to play more to see how far it goes. Chris did get the good Internet at home. No no, they didn't play Assassin's Creed 4; they just talked about it a lot. That's my goof. Games Discussed: Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, Super Mario 3D World, Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, Mushroom 11, XCOM: Enemy Within, Star Citizen, TI-86 Mario Listen on the Episode Page Listen in iTunes Subscribe to the RSS Feed
  24. Idle Thumbs 127: His Boss Encounter Week 127. Sean spends a week in an empty mansion under the pretense of ridding it of ghosts, when in reality he robs the owners blind. He gets lost in a secret passage for two days. Chris spends a third week documenting his time lost in the caverns. Though he accomplishes little, he feels fulfilled. Jake remains at home with the door locked and the curtains drawn, counting the minutes since the mechanical cat's shadow last passed by the window. He loses one mind. Games Discussed: The Yawhg, Crusader Kings 2, Grand Theft Auto V, Batman: Arkham City, The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, Spelunky, Soma Listen on the Episode Page Listen in iTunes Subscribe to the RSS Feed
