  1. SHOWCASE WEEKEND // Welcome Thread

This is the first Wizard Jam I've followed/participated in - I took the Showcase Weekend™ opportunity this morning to play through pretty much all the Mac-playable submissions, and I'm glad I did. There are some real gems in there! Thought about trying to stream, but setting up and commenting on an actually-good stream is real work.
  2. [Release] I'll Kill The Last Alien

Neat game, and nice art style!
  3. Yep, it's 1.0.2. The time I ran into it was after I had quit once back to the main menu and started again, so maybe the game was still in a weird state?
  4. I hope someone with the right setup streams some gameplay of this, because it looks amazing.
  5. [Dev Log] Hamburger Mode (Now live!!!!!)

I said all games need a Hamburger Mode and after playing through this I still stand by that statement. Also I heard all the text in this game in Chris Remo's voice.
  6. [RELEASE] The Purity of a Child's Boredom

    Ahhh okay, I didn't
  7. [Release] The Stuff Dreams Are Made Of

The voiceover work and writing in this game are fantastic. I rate this game: Better Than The Witness.
  8. [RELEASE] The Purity of a Child's Boredom

    Great tie-in of the podcast!
  9. [RELEASE] Disastris!

Enjoyed Goldblum mode and all the arcade cabinets. Reminded me of the Regular Show arcade games: I could see things getting really crazy/silly with a Twitch stream of this.
  10. [Release] Prepare for the Jelly

This is a slick little tower defense game.
  11. [RELEASE] Dear Mom

Wow, this game is super fun! Ran smoothly for me. Wasn't expecting those plot twists - red herrings everywhere!
  12. Great graphical style! Also a nice touch that enemy bullets will also damage enemies. Would be great if you could get them to go full Doom-monster-infighting.
  13. Nice, and good ridiculous sound effects! I think I ran into a bug (Mac version) where I never got any more enemies after I cleared the first "wave". Also my Majestic Blast™ wasn't working or making any noise. Quitting and reloading seems to have fixed it.
  14. [Release] Order Order

This is exactly what I thought as well. Great concept and artistic style!
  15. [Released ] The Wizard

This game looks super cute and the devlog GIFs/images are great. I was a little bummed that the itch.io page indicates it will play on Mac/Linux, but there's only a .exe in the .7z - maybe I'm missing something? It seems to run pretty well in Wine, though. Looking forward to coming back to this later and playing more of it, since there seems to be a lot there.
  16. [Release] Super Hollyweedland

This game has a great style. Got a little stuck in the second area too, though - just wound up blindly rubbing my way forward up the geometry.
  17. [Release] Disable Enemies to Reveal Enemies

Yeah, whenever I spawned by an enemy it was after a death elsewhere, so that explains it!
  18. [RELEASE] Super Pools n' Ghosts

Nice graphics, chill vibe, and every game needs a hamburger mode.
  19. [Release] Disable Enemies to Reveal Enemies

Fun little game! Kind of reminds me of NES Gauntlet, if it were a puzzle game. Does take some figuring out as to what counts as moving onto vs. being moved onto, as mentioned. Also had a couple times where I burned through all my lives by starting in a room with an invisible enemy right next to me, but I guess that just means
  20. Music is good! Gameplay gives me kind of a King of the Hill vibe.
  21. Release: Cruisin' for a Word that Rhymes With Cruisin' on itch.io "Cruisin' [anything]" invokes an intense nostalgia of a specific type of driving game for me, so I want to make a super-idiotic driving game based on the premise of the title alone where the goal is to hit as many words that rhyme with "cruisin'" while avoiding words that don't rhyme with "cruisin'". Looking around at old games that I wanted to emulate the style of, I stumbled into someone who developed an SDK for the original Out Run arcade hardware, so of course I needed to crank up the idiocy of this project even more by trying to develop this so that it runs on original Out Run arcade hardware (or more realistically, runs in MAME or in a browser via JSMESS). As of right now, I've wasted an immense amount of time getting the build environment completely inside Docker, as the SDK was originally developed for Windows. I've also reverse engineered the Out Run PCM audio ROMs and replaced some of the voice samples so I can make it say "Cruisin' for a Word that Rhymes With Cruisin'" after booting up ("reverse engineered" sounds more complex than what was actually involved, which was figuring out the ROMs and sample rate info for the PCM data and editing/re-exporting them in Audacity). I've also modified the SDK road sample so that it displays "Cruisin' for a Word that Rhymes With Cruisin'" and displays the Ferrari sprite on the scrolling road: Next steps will be to add the first pass of crude input handling, scrolling words (probably initially just using the basic text mode, which I don't think will let me scale - maybe I could load/display letters as sprites and scale them?), and scorekeeping/lives.
  22. Thanks! My high score during development was 1750, but I think it's pretty easily beatable with some work. I wish I had taken some more time to figure out more of the sound hardware so I could have simultaneous music and SFX, but oh well. Speaking of which, someone ported the 3DS Out Run music tracks to run on arcade hardware, because of course they did: (see also here) Some more links of things that I stumbled across while developing this: Lou's Pseudo 3D Page - some explanation and analysis of psuedo-3D road rendering Out Run Enhanced Edition - fixes various bugs in the original ROMs CannonBall - a from-scratch disassembly/reassembly of the original Out Run engine LayOut - an Out Run track editor The MAME outrun driver source - immensely helpful for tinkering and understanding what's going on
  23. Game is live and submitted to the jam on itch.io! https://ryanfb.itch.io/cruisin Anyone wanna go for a high score contest?
  24. Figured out multiple sprite rendering and added a strong female protagonist (unlike the original Out Run): Can you handle these graphics?!
  25. [Released] Sit in a Row and Stare at the Wall

Looking good! I approve of this arcade cabinet.
