David Lynch's Josh Brolin's Campo Santo's Fire Watch With Me: A Motion Picture Event
Henke replied to TychoCelchuuu's topic in Video Gaming
I like him! Last weekend I actually rewatched Green Hornet! For some reason! I think he has the breezy attitude and effortless comedic delivery for the back-and-forth with Delilah. I don't know if he has the chops to portray Henry's darker moments, but I would love to see him try. edit: also Nappi, where did you hear this rumor? It wasn't from me at the top of this page was it? Because I don't know what I'm talking about. -
David Lynch's Josh Brolin's Campo Santo's Fire Watch With Me: A Motion Picture Event
Henke replied to TychoCelchuuu's topic in Video Gaming
My guess is that Henry's backstory, with Julia, will be portrayed in flashbacks throughout, instead of frontloaded as it is in the game. The prologue was the part of the game that affected me the most, and perhaps in a movie where we're seeing the character from the outside, rather than being him, having it gradually revealed why he's out there in the woods might work better. Dunno. ANYWAY, who do we want to see starring in this thing? I see the production company has worked on movies like Neighbors and The Night Before in the past. Hmm... perhaps it's time Seth Rogen took on a more serious role? -
Designer Notes 21: Amy Hennig - Part 1
Henke replied to Soren Johnson's topic in Designer Notes Episodes
Good stuff! Looking forward to part 2. -
Yes! This is my second favourite game of this year. Having picked up the Outsider DLC, which adds a new character and a few new missions, I'm currently doing my second playthrough. Also decided to finally get around to Steamworld Dig, but I gotta say I'm not feeling it. Too grindy. :/

Episode 368: Dark Reign: The Future of War
Henke replied to Rob Zacny's topic in Three Moves Ahead Episodes
Out of all these late-90's RTSes, KKND definitely had the coolest intro tho. We can all agree on that, right? -
I like that new Nick Cave song, and that RTJ/DJ Shadow video is pretty crazy, but now for something completely different... The Divine Comedy! I've always liked this band, but mostly for individual songs than whole albums. His new one tho, Foreverland, I've ended up listening through several times over the past couple days. It's great. Very beautiful and theatrical, kinda in the vein of The Decemberists or some of Amanda Palmers stuff. This track is a bit more poppy. A bit more dad-rocky.

I love Valkyria Chronicles! King's Bounty and Heroes of Might & Magic - I'm not too keen on fantasy stuff really. More into real-world/sci-fi/steampunk themed things. Silent Storm - started playing this a while back but kinda trailed off on the second mission. Should start it up again, think it might be just what I'm looking for now. Thanks for reminding me of it! Expeditons: Conquistador - Hmm! Maybe! Adding it to the wishlist.
-
Overland - Yes, I'm very much looking forward to this one! Will wait until it's out of EA before getting it tho. Bedlam - I didn't realize this one was out yet, I really like the look of it. It's getting not-great review though. Adding to wishlist. The Banner Saga - Not sure why I haven't played this yet, should probably pick it up. Transistor - have it on PS4 but I've only poked at it a little bit. Wasn't a fan of Bastion's gameplay so I didn't make much effort to get into this. Will give it another chance. Skulls of the Shogun - haven't played this for the highly personal and probably highly stupid reason that I don't like the artstyle. That cartoony big-head overhead-view-but-with-characters-drawn-from-the-side style is the reason I couldn't get into Binding of Isaac and Don't Starve. Still, maybe I'll investigate this closer. And nope, don't have a DS or GBA. I do have an iPad and an Android phone tho. (and yes, I already have Hoplite. Love it.) Good suggestions, keep em coming!

Ooooh! Well I do like Chung, but I was so-so on Atom Zombie Smasher. Flotilla seems to check my boxes tho, adding it to the wishlist.

Awwww maaaan. It ended just as it was getting good! Maaaaaan! I mean, sure, it was good before that as well. 1 minute into the game, right after the intro, I had to alt-tab out to go rave about it on another forum. With all the previews focusing on the hacking I'd forgotten that this was gonna be another super-cinematic Brendon Chung production. But all the missions, tho fun, mostly felt like tutorials. It wasn't until the Abby Yoyo Space Elevator, when I realized I was going to have to use the Weever like that, that I felt like the training wheels were finally coming off. And it was super tense, going through this long complicated mission, knowing it'd be back to square one if I messed up. After a few attempts I finally beat it, and then... it was over. Man. I hope the modding scene for this takes off.

Summer vacation is here and I've been catching up on a few of the finest indie titles of recent times. Firewatch - Best game of the year so far! I'm sure this has been discussed to death around here, I don't really have anything to add except that I loved it to bits. Hyper Light Drifter - Finished this today. Loved the gameplay and exploring the world, looking for secrets. Couldn't make heads or tails of the story tho. Invisible, Inc. - Currently nearing the end of my second playthrough, on Experienced this time. This is some damn fine turn-based stealth gameplay!
-
Oh man oh man this is really happening and it's awesome! Kudos on taking the big scary leap into full time indie dev.
-
That's some damn fine sculpting, root!
-
Pony Island - very funny! At 2h long it kept a good pace and didn't drag too much. Axiom Verge - a solid Metroidvania with an engaging story and tons of secrets. I did have to resort to a walkthrough towards the end tho, when I was hopelessly lost. Up next: Unravel, Firewatch and Dex.

It is done! https://henke.itch.io/in-search-of-paradise A big thanks to my collaborators root, Akidu and badatstuff. This was a fun experience and I really enjoyed the challenge of finishing a game in this amount of time. ------------------------------Original post------------------------------ I'm making a game based on the Idle Weekend episode "In Search of (Burnout) Paradise". root made me these lovely car and cactus models. So far I've made a bit of terrain, some dust particles kicking up in the distance, and a rudimentary day/night system. Next up: car physics!

Yes, that was great, DukeBG.

Yeah I liked Absolute Drift, but there's not that much to it. It's a neat idea, well executed, tho a bit short. Finished Assassin's Creed: Syndicate today. Here's some gameplay I captured, mostly of me hanging out down in the Thames. Those riverboats and barges were my favourite location in it. Love the dynamic playspace they create as they keep passing eachother down the river. Out of the 5 AC games I've played (1,2,3,Black Flag and this) this is probably my favourite! Tho that's not saying much. Never really been a big fan of the series, yet I can't stop myself from buying the damn things. Feels like they've tightened up the gameplay in this one. Instances of me accidentally scrambling up the wrong wall or fumbling with the controls were noticably less than in earlier entries. Story was as bland as in every open world Ubigame, tho there are some nice character moments. Mission design is middle of the road, and sometimes frustratingly rigid. The sideactivities are where you're given the most freedom to play it by ear, and thus the most enjoyable. There's still a ton of sidemissions, only after finishing the main story did I discover that there's basically a whole other game in here where you're running around WW1 London doing missions for Churchill. More content in this game than I'll ever have time for. Next up: Axiom Verge!

Watched the stream yesterday. Or rather I watched the first hour, anticipating/dreading when you'd get to In Search of Paradise and then got impatient and fast forwarded to that part. You guys did good! Made more than halfway to Paradise! Jake, I hope it's ok if I use your quote "This is like the walking simulator version of Interstate 76." on the gamepage.

I've kinda been hoping someone else would do one. Seems a bit self indulgent to do it myself. There are some videos on YT of it, but none that gets very far.
-
Thanks for the kinda words, everyone. Rubix, it is indeed a great looking skybox. I just got it from the asset store tho, so I can't take any credit for it. That's what I was going for. I like how you described it.
-
Played this yesterday, good stuff! Very Blendo! My fave bit was when the zombies come at you from both sides and you gotta duck into the room.
-
I initially gave this a pass because I assumed it was a twin stick shooter, and those just aren't my thing. Then I saw the stream and heard about the unconventional control system and the physicsy movement of the tank I had to try it, because that stuff I love. And yeah, this was really enjoyable, and very good looking too! The controls did feel a bit odd. I would've liked to be able to swap the left(LT/LB) and right(RT/RB) controls with eachother.

Watched the Deus Ex livestream last night and the Watch Dogs 2 videos this morning and I AM HYYYYYYYYYYPED! No, seriously. Watch Dogs 2 looks very good.

Idle Weekend June 4, 2016: Get You a Game That Can Do Both
Henke replied to Chris's topic in Idle Weekend Episodes
BIG UPS for mentioning the old Maria Bamford Show. I'm a big fan of hers but I gotta say I'm a bit so-so on the new show. Not to be a total hipster or anything but her old show which had zero production values and Maria playing all the parts herself was waaaayyy better! All due respect to Mary Kay Place and Eddie Beggz but noone can play Maria's parents like Maria can! -
RPS is my favourite gaming site, and to finally have a game featured on it is just, man, I don't even know what to say. It's fucking great! Hmm, you might've pressed the K key by accident, which brings you back to the start. It's just for dev purposes and I forgot to take out. You can also press H, or G, to hide the fuel meter. That I put in so I could get nice, clean footage for the trailer. I'll clean up that and some other minor things for the next version, probably later this week.
