I'm moving back to England in a week, and for the first time in my life I'm renting a place of my own. It's exciting and nerve-wrecking in equal parts.

I'm second to last on the Giant Bomb bracket group. I had Davidson and Providence making deep runs. I know. I think my father made me the F1 fan I am, but I enjoy many others sports he never cared about. It has actually been a bit the other way for me: I got really into cycling for a while, and he started watching races with me and now follows the Tour de France every year even though I'm not there anymore.

So I presume you're from Gothenburg, right? I spent a year living there, but at the time the Indians were not particularly good and I ended up not going to see any of their games. I also ended up not seeing any football matches from any of the teams in town, even though I meant to. In retrospect I just felt like staying at home a lot that year.

Official Giant Bomb Thread Mostly for Complaining About Dan

young Brad is the best Brad. Young Brad shamelessly reading from a script with the most monotonic voice ever is even better. I want to believe that all their ideas for different stuff are being used for the Big Live Live Show Live, hence the going-through-the-motions UPFs we've been getting.- 1367 replies

HEY PAS-TOR How great was it that Maldonado crashed two curves into the first race and still hasn't finished an Australian GP EVER? It's like he wants to be talked about by Danny and Drew. I just realized that, aside from flight simulators and realistic shooters, Drew is always the outsider trying to learn about something in GB content. Which is slightly weird considering he's probably the most "classically" educated member of the crew.- 1367 replies

That's Big Roll. He showed up at my house a couple of months old and poisoned. We took him to the vet and kept him. He died three years ago at 18.
-
Oh, man. I need to move to a place where I can have a cat. It's been too long since good old Big Roll died. :-(

Bought it, it ran like crap on my laptop, shelved it until I'm back home to play on my desktop. But I can see already that I'll spend WAY too much time playing this.

Oh yes, of course conceptually and formally it makes sense to teach limits before derivatives. It just feels cruel to make students go through hell just to tell them "well, if I had just told you this simple rule you'd have solved all your exercises from last month in 5 seconds". I sure have learned a fair amount of stuff during my Engineering degree that I have almost no idea how to prove or even what's the theoretical background to support, so in a practical sense I don't see why teaching the "mechanics" of derivatives before limits would be a problem. You could always go back and show why that stuff works.
-
At my university they decided to teach limits before teaching derivatives. It turns out that doing that stuff without L'Hôpital's rule is A PAIN. Like really, really hard. It involves all kinds of clever factoring and rewriting stuff as other stuff using non-trivial relationships and it's like one of those obtuse adventure game puzzles.

I'm @ratamero but my feed is 99% in Portuguese (and not particularly interesting), so maybe good practice if you want to learn the language?

I've been finding basic exploration (no added equipment to my basic Sidewinder) to actually be quite lucrative for someone just starting up, in a simpler way than trading. I'm less than 10 hours in and, after taking 2 ou 3 hours to figure out the basics, I've made enough money to buy myself an Adder (and a fuel scoop as soon as I find a decent one). Next step is either going for a Cobra or upgrading my Adder with surface scanner/intermediate discovery scanner/improved FSD.

I think it was taken down because the CAH video at the beginning wasn't being shown. My guess is that Drew/Jason will edit it into the panel and post it again.- 1367 replies

Agreed. I get that she's a comedienne and not everything she says should be taken seriously, but then again they should have considered that she wouldn't be the most suitable guest for a podcast centered around getting advice.- 1367 replies

GG is exactly the kind of thing a 16-year-old me would do (I mean the twitter-argument part of it, not the swatting one). Their rhetoric and usage of terms like "prove", "debunk", "evidence" and stuff like that is what happens when you think you're much more clever than you actually are (which is the case for pretty much any "misunderstood" teenager).

I went to Rezzed last year in Birmingham and at least Sony had a sizeable presence (Microsoft not so much and Nintendo wasn't there). Did Sony pull out this time?

I think all panels should move towards a "questions from a hat" model, where the presenter can actually read the question for himself before addressing it and choose whether to do it or not (and written questions don't come with stutter and quivering voices). I feel really uncomfortable with most of the stuff people come up with during those panels, but I think having a questions section is important. But yeah, "Win Dave Lang's Money" is probably one of the best things I've seen in a while.- 1367 replies

OK, so as someone who just bought a PS4 and lives by himself: should I worry about buying a 2nd controller anytime soon? Do you guys use more than one controller often? In which situations?

I was sick for two days this week, then got snowed in yesterday, today I'm at work and tomorrow I'm flying to England for a meeting on Tuesday (and hopefully viewing some apartments to rent when I move back). That means that in the 9 days from this Tuesday to next Wednesday I'll have worked exactly one.

2015 started well. Vinny and Alex are putting out content and that makes me the happiest person in the world, Metal Gear Scanlon is back, Danswers and the new Unplugged are pretty good. I'm eager to see who will be the new NY employee and what they will come up with there (second weekly podcast please!).- 1367 replies

Some of my uncles from my father's side are JWs. One of them is a missionary, he travels around Brazil and Portuguese-speaking African countries as a "full-time employee". He's one of the kindest, most cultured and open-minded people I've ever known. Go figure. On the other side of the coin, one of my JW uncles is the legal guardian of another of my uncles, who has Down Syndrome. Recently the latter had some terrible intestinal problem with internal bleeding and was basically dead save for a blood transfusion. My uncle wouldn't authorize that. You could see on his face that it was a terrible decision for him, but he was willing to let his brother die for a stupid belief. My father had to take over and overrule him.

To use the wrestling lingo so beloved by the Bombcrew, I'm really enjoying Drew's heel turn. First he totally snapped during the last Mario Party, now he throw some jabs at Dan at the behind-the-scenes video. There's something enjoyable in seeing a genuinely nice person lose it.

I hadn't played this in maybe 10 years before buying the new version for my Vita. It still is probably my favourite game ever. I'm going through it slowly so I can enjoy it for longer, and it's just so well written and funny and brilliant.

Kidney stones are my biggest fear in life, probably. I'm terrified of these things. My younger brother (25 now) has had them multiple times ever since he was 16 or so, and just seeing how much pain he's on when that happens scared the shit out of me.

I'm very, very slowly starting to understand things. I've done a couple of courier missions, but those are a bit hard to find in the systems I've been to, and making a profit from trading with 4 cargo space is not easy if you're not willing to stick to a trading route, so I still don't have cash to improve anything on my ship. How do I get more money from selling cartographic data? I've noticed that I got around 1000 credits for some systems, but only 200 for others.
