Now I'm just looking up where/when the next time I can get Raisin' Canes is, aka the best chicken fingers I've ever had in my entire life.

True Detective Weekly 2: Night Finds You
jennegatron replied to Jake's topic in True Detective Weekly Episodes
This is exactly how I felt watching that scene too. Maybe that's part of why she's so uncomfortable with her sister doing what she's doing? She doesn't want to run across her sister when she's exploring that facet of her sexuality. -
5 days before my 24th birthday I shotgunned my first beer. Happy birthday America! Now I'm just watching Sealab 2021 and giggling.

So far my boyfriend has had the helpful suggestions of "Magic: The Gathering", "Dick Pics", "Jumanji" and "The Crow."

I keep seeing that Not Your Father's Root Beer at our local food co-op, which I shop at exclusively for beer, and I will definitely try it out. My favorite thing to do is to try and find the best bubble soda to put in my Dirty Shirley temples. I keep coming back to Sprite, but have been using those little 8 oz cans instead of the full 12oz cans and am finding that it gives me a good vodka:sprite:grenadine ratio.

I am drinking a blonde that my college roommate brought for me from Eugene, Oregon. It is so good and it makes me so happy. Also my favorite Dota 2 player is in the town I live in right now. I'm tipsy enough to think it's a good idea to go find him, but am sober enough to know that it's a bad idea.

this is what I'm dealing with.

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
jennegatron replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
I would be totally 100% into this, as I think I'm within a year or so of you tegan and have fond memories of neopets and the little blue penguin thing I had there. -
Obviously the correct answer is EG because Universe, PPD, & Aui are total dreamboats.

Was the 3rd quest the Murder on the Rockport Limited? If so, Griffin names all (I think?) of the NPCs on the train with the exception of Tom Bodett after fans, but uses the same cast of 5-6 characters the entire time once they get on the train. I expect him to name most of the NPCs after fans who tweet about the show going forward as well, so if that turns you off, it's probably safe to not go back to it.

My recommendations are going to skew very much toward lighter balanced beers. I love german beers & american and belgian wheats, as well as ciders. 1. I think Abita's purple haze is delicious 2. I've never heard anything but high praise for Oberon, but have not tried it 3. I very much enjoyed new belgium's snapshot. Very bright. That black cherry looks dope as does River Dictator & Hoffeweizen. Now is the time of year for the beers I like, as the wheats come out in the summer and I'm in beer heaven for a while. If you prefer the IPAs or Porter/Stouts, I'm the last person you should ask for recommendations though.

Idle Thumbs 216: Super Hypercast
jennegatron replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I got all the way through today's NYT crossword with only looking up 1 clue, so I assume that today's was written by children, and that's why I was able to do it. (I'm bad at crosswords.) -
The bizarre not-actually-sponsored-by-Powerade performance art that was happening at the beginning of episodes was legitimately so funny & Griffin's goofy schtick is one reason why the Hearthstone videos from Polygon (affectionately known as Stonerz) are pretty much my favorite things on the internet. For real though, The Adventure Zone is probably my favorite podcast. I think MBMBaM and Judge John Hodgman are shows w/o guests that are really good for dropping in on periodically and just letting slide by other times. For shows with guests like Jordan Jesse, Go! I only listen when there's a guest that's interesting to me.

I think the power of first impressions, especially with podcasts, is so potent. I think shows (and the people who make them) change so much over the course of a show. Listening to a show like MBMBaM that has 5 years worth of weekly back episodes is going to make that morph so pronounced. Like I started listening to Idle Thumbs because I heard an episode in the car with my boyfriend, specifically the episode with Jeff Green who I feel like is my internet dad and I have a lot of affection for him. After hearing that episode, I immediately started listening to more, but if you go back to Idle Thumbs 1, it was totally different (and unappealing to me.) If I ever encounter anyone interested in starting Idle Thumbs, I always recommend starting with the most recent episodes, and not going back before the Kickstarter unless they're completionists, and if so, to do that last. I don't think anyone owes any shows a second chance. There's so much good stuff to consume and experience, that I would not ask anyone to go back to check out MBMBaM, or any other show for that matter. It's interesting to me what puts people off of shows, as I think those things are often what shows either double down on or work actively to combat. So the bro speak from Griffin, specifically when he jokes about 420 dank nuggs is something that continued, but were sponsored for a very long time by extreme restraints and talked about sex stuff a lot, and they've gotten a lot more comfortable with that.

True Detective Weekly 1: The Western Book of the Dead
jennegatron replied to Chris's topic in True Detective Weekly Episodes
I was very interested by the fact that the show mostly focused on fella butts in this episode, as opposed to feeling the presence of overwhelming male gaze. Even the scene where they busted the webcam house didn't linger salaciously on the women and mostly allowed themselves to cover up, very much unlike season 1 that would focus on the naked women on the show. Even the gif above ^ doesn't seem as arousing as it just seems weird. I know the rest of that guy's apartment is full of erotic art, but I was really struck by how much they focused on man butts. -
True Detective Weekly 1: The Western Book of the Dead

I hope they talk about how everyone whisper talked and we had to have our tv turned up about 3x as loud as we normally do just to hear anything. -
That's totally understandable. They can never really commit to whether it's going to be 100% joke advice or if they're actually going to try to help the person that wrote in, and as a result you get responses that are meant to serve either or both, making it unpredictable which kind of answer you're going to get. I decided I didn't really care about the quality of the advice, and just wanted to hear their jokes.
-
I don't think MBMBaM is actually a good advice show. I would be shocked if anyone did think that. It doesn't seem like they're actually interested in giving good advice, which I'm all in favor of. I can't understand why anyone would write into them for any reason other to hear their joke answers.
