  1. Fallout 4 — Boston Makes Me Feel Good

The environmental effects in FO3 were lacking, but I don't think technical failures can be used to criticize the plot.
  2. Fallout 4 — Boston Makes Me Feel Good

I feel like the authors critique are really built on trying to find anything wrong in the game and nit-picking the hell out of it. I agree the plot of Fallout 3 wasn't great, but this critique feels very lazy to me. Maybe there is no rain because they didn't build a weather engine in the game. I don't remember any character commenting on the fact it doesn't rain in the DC wasteland. The lack of rain feels more like a dev oversight than a serious issue, ditto for farms. As for motivation to clean the water, I agree its weak in game, but how about its the right thing to do? Can't the player have purely altruistic motivations? Also reduces the rad load on the play from drinking random water in the game, so there is some personal benefit. Maybe once the Potomac is clean more settlements will form around it, this is also related to game limitations, its very expensive to build large thriving communities in a FPS open world game.

Whelp I know what event chain I will be triggering tonight: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/from-holy-kingdom-to-unholy-nightmare-why-this-is-the-best-dlc-yet.736028/ "Update on Demon Queen. Saw a blood red comet, started speaking in tongues and is now casually passing the time by torturing people in her dungeon, had a son and daughter in the meantime who hate her. Currently torturing this thirteen year old, maimed her, put her in the oubilete, then satan told me to go talk to her in the dungeon, she begged for mercy so I tortured her, satan lol'd "
  5. The threat of Big Dog

"his bot can place 1,000 bricks an hour, enough to erect the walls of a house in two days of round-the-clock work—a task that, on average, takes a human crew four to six weeks of hard labor." How fast could this robot trap someone in a room with bricks? Obviously Edgar Allan Poe foresaw this threat. http://singularityhub.com/2015/06/29/human-vs-robot-bricklaying-robot-can-place-1000-bricks-an-hour/
  6. Recently completed video games

I just finished Dues Ex: Human Revolution: Directors Cut. I feel like this game didn't know what it wanted to be. Most of the levels are semi-linear there is a shoot everybody path and a stealth path. However you get the feeling that despite the "choice" of play styles there is the stealth way and the wrong way. I found the over world maps to be very annoying, they are just open enough to make navigation around Detroit and Hengsha irritating, its easy to get lost due to a lack of differentiated buildings and odd pathing. This brings me to my number one issue with this game, Missing Link. First they take all your stuff and abilities, a trick games need to stop using. Right away you have to knock out two guards at exactly the right time and hope a third doesn't magically spot you (I had to reload several times and I don't know what I did different the last time). Then you have to do tons of backtracking for all the quests (maybe I should have killed everyone so I didn't have to sneak past the same guard five times). If the levels had been more truly multi-path and if shooting vs. stealth were actually equally valid play style choices this game would have been far better. What is the point of giving players a choice of endings when the sequel will tell them what the correct one is? I will definitely not be buying the new Deus Ex until it is under $10.
  7. Colin just can't fully hide his accent can he? I was worried about this season before watching just because I had no idea if the elements I really liked from season 1 would be included. I really liked the nowhere setting, the Lovecraftian ancient mystery cult and well acted characters. So far I looks like this will be more of a straight detective show, but we will see. I am tepid on the first episode since it is a lot harder to link four characters that don't work together.
  8. Intoxicated:

I started doing infusions last year and am looking for more recipes/ideas. Anyone got any? Here is what I have made/have recipes for so far: Krupnik (Polish honey liquor): http://polishplate.com/recipes/honey-spice-liqueur-krupnik-staropolski,8.html Apple Pie (booze with apple pie spices and cider): Limoncello: https://food52.com/recipes/14975-homemade-limoncello Eierlikor (sort of like eggnog): Rumtopf (fruit and rum drink made over a long time): http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art172009.asp I am thinking about trying a grapefruit-cello next.
  9. Hitman: Steve Gaynor Edition

A stealth kidnapping game certainly would be a challenge. You would have to isolate them, knock them out and haul their body to an extraction point. Alternatively I guess you create a hostage situation where you escape with the hostage. The Blood Money mission in the rehab clinic did include an objective to break someone out of the clinic. A kidnapping mission would be an interesting play on the games mechanics. I did mess around in Blood Money by using the target as a human shield to see if I could get the guards to kill their protectee. The guards would usually take a shot at some point. Theoretically you could try and use them as a shield all the way to the level exit.
  10. Hitman: Steve Gaynor Edition

Some sort of stealth hug game where you fly around the world sneaking up on old friends and hugging them like in the Shadow of Mordor tutorial?
  11. E3 2015

As a fan of all of the Hitman games except the newest one I was very excited to hear that they plan to go back to large open multi-path levels. I am also glad they are going back to the really slick trailers that the idiotic plot from Absolution made impossible. Also Free DLC? They must really be trying to atone from absolution http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/video-games/conferences/e3-2015/14172-Free-DLC-For-Hitman An example of the kind of trailer they used to make:
  12. E3 2015

coop and open world definitely drew my attention.
  13. E3 2015

    Trailer said open world.
  14. The Great Co-op Thread

Which reminds me of Starbound exploring together is a lot of fun. The game is very much still a beta and has some progression issues, but is overall quite fun.
  15. The Great Co-op Thread

RPS just published a best 25 Coop games article: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2015/06/18/best-coop-games/6/ Portal 2 coop is short and not super fun the second time through. The first time I played it my partner had also not played it yet so we explored and solved the puzzles together. After that playing with a newbie is annoying and playing with an expert is dull. This really limits its appeal as a coop game to me. P.S. Personally I liked Diablo 2 more than 3, Borderlands 1 more than 2 and Dawn of War 1 (except for Soul Storm) more than 2. This list did remind me of the Little Big Planet series (2 & 3 are better for coop imo) and the Lego games (Star Wars, Lord of the Rings etc). The lego games are great to play with non-gamers since you have unlimited lives and you respawn without losing progress.

  19. The Big VR Thread

VR came up on the most recent Idle Thumbs podcast. They mentioned platform exclusivity and I was wondering if any of the VR companies have said if their games will be exclusive to their headset or if they will they will be compatible with all games with VR support? If games are headset exclusive I worry there will be too diffuse a market to make VR actually successful.
  20. The Big VR Thread

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2015/06/17/editorial-why-vr-is-going-to-be-an-enormous-flop/ My main issues with this article are: 1) VR doesn't need mainstream acceptance, there is a huge market of unnecessary gaming peripherals. 2) At least for me buying VR is a replacement for buying a 2nd, 3rd etc. monitor. My tower is already a dedicated gaming machine. I watch movies and TV with my PS3 and browse the web with a tablet. Looking at in that light ~$300 price tag isn't large compared to monitors.
  21. Steam Summer Sale Spendapalooza

  25. Mirrors Edge at E3

Looks like no guns: "In Mirror's Edge Catalyst, you won't be using any guns at all," senior producer Sara Jannson told Polygon in an interview today at E3. "We've completely removed that aspect of the game. You can't even pick them up." http://www.polygon.com/2015/6/16/8791399/mirrors-edge-catalyst-no-guns-ea-electronic-arts
