Save states really help some of those retro games. I doubt I'd love super metroid so much if I had to restart each time I was killed by a boss.

Yeah I wasn't into the role playing part. The theme didn't do anything for me. I just wanted to haul ass across the world, which isn't really the game's main focus, despite the name. The design was good, I can't fault that, but because I wasn't into the narrative, I needed more game. I guess I understand why some people dislike Gone Home. Edit: it also occurred to me that something requiring lots of reading and role playing is normally right up my alley, but not what I want in a mobile game. I just want something dumb I can pass the time with.

Cool. Will do! My retro gaming has been going pretty well, so I look forward to trying this classic series out.

Virtual console purchase: Megaman 1 or Megaman other number? I have no intention of playing every Megaman game, but I'd like to get an authentic experience.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wireless-Wii-Pro-Controller-Adapter/dp/B00E6553PW Seems like it's gone up in price, I got mine for only £10. You then have to find a key binding changer or many gems will read X and Y wrong and A and B wrong, which can be a little confusing. Best controller around though, I find it incredibly comfortable.

I honestly didn't like 80 days. Something about it didn't click for me, just felt like I was clicking things and progress was happening irrelevant of whether I did the "best" way or not. Probably doesn't help that I don't enjoy adventure games, and that's basically what it is.

I finished Metal Gear Solid. This game was ambitious for its time. Incredibly so, however that's probably one of the parts that stops me from loving the game. The entire game is fantastic until you get to Metal Gear Rex, that boss fight, in idea is brilliant, however it's poorly executed due to the inherent limitations of the controls and camera. It turns what was meant to be an epic fight into something frustrating and unfair. Similarly the fight with Liquid Snake suffers from trying to be a fighting game without the controls. There's that terrible hold over, where you get knocked down to invisible when you are hit, which allows you to be stun locked to death by certain bosses, and equally, bosses turn invisible when you hit them which feels out of place in a game like this. I think if I had played this in its time, I would have fallen in love. Despite my comments, metal gear solid has aged incredibly well, except for certain parts. I can forgive it for being too ambitious, and I understand why it's considered a classic, and it's clearly influenced hundreds of games but those ending boss fights destroyed it for me to the point I put it down for months. On to Metal gear solid 2...

I really hope they bring necrodancer to console, but by the sounds of it they want the game to be a "success" before they even think about it. I'd play the crap out of a rhythm rogue like on vita.

Has anyone actually beaten I tried again after leaving it for months and I still can barely get anywhere. Maybe it's not possible in single player...unless you're a Mario god.

It sucks how a movie has completely ruined a fantastic drink. I hate people asking if I like TBL when I order a White Russian.

That's a pretty tall order considering the randomness of it all. I unlocked ipecac ages ago and have yet to see it drop.

Being lectured prior to a first date is not a little fault. I'd say it's a full blown, complete fault.

Thanks for the information. Don't really have anything to add any more, but all the posts have been helpful.

Oh hey, I forgot about the boss.

That's cool to know. I don't have human opponents other than online. I have one coworker that owns smash, but I never see her online (May just be a fault of the wiiu's friend system and how it doesn't mark it easy). The quality of the figures is high enough that I'd get more than one. I was concerned that they'd be cheaply made and look awful.

Vita is the best for rogue likes, and indies in general. I played to about NG6+ in rogue legacy on my vita! and BoI is now my go to game. Is it actually possible to "beat" BoI? I recently got Freedom Wars for vita, and it's a super pretty game, with a really interesting narrative that ties in great to the game play, which is sort of hunting-like, but it feels a lot better than things like monster hunter or soul sacrifice. I'd recommend trying it out if you have a vita, and I'm pretty sure it's on sale in most countries (I got it for £10 in the 12 deals of Xmas). My only issue is they use the amnesia trope but for literally no reason. You're in prison, and you get your sentence extended for amnesia. They could have easily just thrown you in prison without the why explained, or even just some throw away reason like theft or something more interesting like murder. Nope though, amnesia, sigh.

The spiders are pretty predictable. Caverns etc. they're also rather cartoony so they might not trigger you as bad as some games. You're not really likely to see them wandering around in the open. Also there tend to be webs before you find any.

It makes me wonder if the original Pokemon games were difficult, or I was just a dumb kid who didn't know what I was doing.

That's a pretty important point too. If someone refuses to do something because of the label associated with it, they probably wouldn't want to do it no matter what it was called. I also always assumed (apparently incorrectly according to Bjorn), that feminism was an aspect of the all encompassing label of humanism. To be honest, I find many of the labels (specifically humanist) to be a bit grating on me. Do you really need a word to describe "for people"? I'm comfortable with not being part of any specific movement, but trying my hardest not to be an asshole to any particular group of people/individual. That's not to say there isn't a need for large scale movements like feminism, as obviously they do a world of good. Curious: is there such an equivalent to feminism regarding equality between races? This is another thing I attributed to humanism (my ignorance on humanism is showing, but I guess they chose a good word if someone like me just assumes these things).

That makes sense. Your reply seems to imply malice though. I'm sure there are many cases like me where it's mere ignorance.
-
Apologies for my ignorance, but my initial thought on reading that was "why not?" Can someone explain for me?

I don't thing the age of a "tradition" (for lack of a better word) has anything to do with its merits. I'm kinda glad we ditched Greek way of crying, along with pederasty.

Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

The mordor thread basically reads the same. Those of us who have either never played a bat man game, or suck at them, really liked mordor. Those that knew the combat well found mordor boring. Makes sense! I had some crazy fun battles were captains would barge in and ruin my day, then berate me about how I ran away like a coward the last time we met. The system is great, they just need a better game. -
Interesting. So to train them you have to bring them along for matches. That means I need to pick up falco some time. He'd be a sweet ally.

Idle Thumbs Asks: What Is the Best Video Game of All Time?
Griddlelol replied to posh_somme's topic in Video Gaming
Yup, chaos theory wins the title for best stealth game in my opinion. I don't think best game though, because it can't stand up to the greats in terms of narrative. I see Link to the Past mentioned. I'm having a hard time with that game, it doesn't seem to stand up to today's standards, unlike Super Metroid which still feels like a great game. I played LttP about 6 months after ALBW, and the modern improvements just felt so necessary.
