  1. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

I'm not massively keen on Hideaway as a track (though I do prefer it to quite a lot of recent chart stuff) but that video is fantastic. Just loads of excellent dancing!
  2. Zandronum

Hi, so Doom is brilliant single player, we all know that. But, I could sure go for some co-op or deathmatch action if anybody is up for that? I've been playing Brutal Doom a lot and I think I'd prefer to go with that, but vanilla style is good too and might prove to be less of a hassle. Anybody want to get knee-deep in the dead with me?
  3. Manga Thread of Reading Comics Backwards

I'm thoroughly enjoying Berserk so far, having torrented a bunch of it. I know, I'm a bad guy. Anyway, the first 3 volumes were great fun. Even though there is an abundance of action and gore and cool stuff, the story is still very much at the forefront, driving things along. I now can't wait to see how it is going to diverge from the anime. The funny bits with Puck are actually funny, too, and I usually don't care for jokes in manga/anime

Hey hey HEY. I already did, a couple of months ago. And, it was acebest.
  5. Quantized Roguelike Chess Dancing: Crypt of the Necrodancer

Wow, looks so cool. I want it!
  6. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

A few posts back, I said I really liked Word Crimes. It flows well, the video specifically was well put together, he made some points about grammar which I think some people do intentionally slip up on and which bother me, so I agreed with that. But, yeah, absolutely it could have been done with a lot less venom, and I really don't think it only makes fun of people who deliberately misuse and abuse grammar. Thankfully, I'm pretty good when it comes to writing and my grammar is reasonable, but if I was hearing that song and I wasn't so confident, I would have felt degraded and that any problems I had were all my own fault. I didn't consider that at the time but it's an important perspective to be mindful of.

When I got the shinobi class in Rogue Legacy, it was plain sailing. Good thing too, because by that point I was sick of it. It just doesn't have enough variety.
  8. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

You don't have Zombies which is absolutely rock hard but brilliant fun. I can't recommend it highly enough, played it to death as a kid, and have some of my fondest memories from co-oping (thought usually we'd end up fighting ) with my sisters.
  9. Manga Thread of Reading Comics Backwards

A friend lent me Battle Royale, 'cos I love the film, but the manga is all panty shots. I'm only vaguely familiar with the parlance of manga, but isn't that called fan-service? I'm not a fan or fan-service. I started reading Berserk yesterday. I've seen the anime series many times and really love it, and so far, the manga is reasonably similar, and just as good. Can foresee myself getting really into it. I love the grim, medieval setting and the gruesome incubi.

That sounds like some unnecessary perfume

Word Crimes was SO GOOD. I cheered when he explained why "I could care less" is stupid. Also, he said cunning linguists, which made me think of CunninLynguists, which made me post this.

There is some good writing in Kotor 2, but with catastrophe looming, it's all too often very serious and long winded speeches. Which is a shame, as when it tries to be funny, it can be really funny. I think Mass Effect got a better balance between shooting the breeze with your mates, and being lectured about what big trouble the galaxy has gotten itself into. My biggest issue with it was just the amount of backtracking that you have to do. On every planet you visit, and every station, and every featureless canyon, there is a shit-ton of running back and forth. Thank god I invested in force run as early on as I did 'cos without it I'd have just given up (probably at Nar Shaddar). I played with the cut content mod and there are also a few sections where you lose control of the exile and have to use party members which you may not be at all familiar with. I lost count of the number of times I reloaded the fight between Also, I was really looking forward to the bit with HK47 and the but with that area, when you weren't running back and forth, you were standing still clicking "power blast" over and over again until the enemies would just fuck off and die already. There were some brilliant interchanges between HK and the other droids here, but mainly it was shooting. The music was lovely, though.

I beat KotOR 2 yesterday, after a whopping 38 hours. Glad to see the back of it, to be quite honest! I was enjoying it loads at the start, did Dantooine first when the game branched out and enjoyed that area, but my interest started to drop off at Nar Shaddar (some awful bugs here really didn't help matters). By the time I got to the final area I was just hoping for a big floating quest marker to point me directly towards the boss and the end credits.
  14. Divinity: Original Sin

I think this vid does a really good job of explaining what this game is about, how it works and what you should expect from it. And it's got gamewank Jim so it's dead funny. Desperate to play Divinity now. I'm poor or I'd throw down my 30 notes right this second

Snap! Nicely articulated argument, really describes how I feel about FC2 as well. If I could just find a mod that made checkpoints respawn less frequently, I think I could finish it, but I don't think one exists.

I just bought XCOM - Enemy Unknown for a paltry £3 from a site I'd never heard of before called "Game Keys Now". They make a big deal on their website about how they are actually legit, which sent up red flags, but I looked around and all seemed okay so gave it a punt. And, it all worked fine! Here's a savygamer link http://savygamer.co.uk/2014/07/09/xcom-enemy-unknown-pcmaclinux-2-99/ And I think it's $5 if you're in the US. Also, a big thanks to Griddlelol who offered to gift it to me a few days ago. I felt a bit cheeky so declined (tho I hadn't begged him, honest!)
  18. General Video Game Deals Thread

I was afflicted with loads of crashing bugs and graphical glitches when I played Bioshock 2 last year. My girlfriend swears that it's the best one, so I'd like to sort it out somehow and dive back in.

I dunno, I think the creator of the legendary comic-strip "CyberTwats" can pretty much name his price

  21. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

I read Judge Dredd vs. Mars Attacks a week ago, after spotting it in the library (the library in Crewe has a pretty good selection), and it was...disappointing? I mean, conceptually it has so much promise and it could never really live up to my expectations, but the humour fell flat for me and it just didn't have a lot of memorable moments. And then I read Strontium Dog: The Kreeler Conspiracy, and that cheered me up loads because it was amazing. John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra have got to be my favourite duo working in comics.
  22. Even then, "try fire". The first thing I did was throw a firebomb. Absolutely, yes.
  23. I liked Matt Lees' videos. He complained that the windmill in Earthen Peak is unintuitive and I've got to agree with him. You can throw firebombs at the fabric of the sails to no effect, but holding a torch to the metal shaft works instantly...bwuh?
  24. Books, books, books...

She has a beautiful economy with words which so, so many authors could take a lesson from. Having said that, I couldn't get through the third Earthsea book because I felt it dragged a little. Still, The Left Hand is an astonishing novel
