  1. The Witness by Jonathan Blow

10 minute gameplay video narrated by Blow. I want this game inside me.
  2. Baby Animal Gif Emergency Rations

I hear robotic limb noises in my head when he moves his feet.

  5. Movie/TV recommendations

Lying in bed last night I flicked to a random movie in XBMC and landed on Young Adult, which I meant to watch when it came out because Patton Oswalt but then forgot. It's alright. 10/10 for Patton Oswalt. Not a massive fan of Diablo Cody but it was much less nauseating than Juno, so points for that.
  6. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I installed a graphical overhaul which makes it look much nicer, technically, but the world itself still has a dark muddy sort of look to it. I mean that's part of the aesthetic, and it still looks pretty great, but it does kind of contribute to the feeling of lifelessness I was talking about.
  7. Titanfall

Does the beta let you add friends and party up? Haven't spotted any option like that so I guess probably not. When I first saw it I thought it was a smug Barney Calhoun.
  8. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I think I'm finally done with Dark Souls. Got a good ~300 hours out of it between PC and Xbox. Goodnight sweet prince. I started Morrowind because I always meant to, but it's kind of repelling me to the point where I have trouble picking it up any more. The combat I can deal with, but the world feels kind of lifeless with all the NPCs just standing around giving you stock replies most of the time (although I do like the way you gather topics to ask people about). As much as I roll my eyes at Skyrim's sometimes forced attempts to make the world seem more alive, I can't help but miss the activity in towns, artificial or not.
  9. Titanfall

I'm really enjoying it despite how frenetic it is. I feel like I'd enjoy it better in relatively small doses, after a while it gets a bit overwhelming, but it's fun to get into a flow while my senses are still sharp.
  10. Souls... I mean Lords of the Fallen

That trailer was hilarious but the game does seem to have one thing going for it: your weapons actually have sheaths.
  11. Titanfall

If you registered before 4PM yesterday on PC the beta should show up in your origin games list some time tonight. If it hasn't already it might be minutes or hours, mine just showed up.
  12. Titanfall

How do you mean? Graphically? Controls? Better or worse? Man, has the beta started already? Every time a mail shows up in my inbox I get a little hopeful.
  13. Titanfall

Why on earth are they playing it on such horrible settings. Looks like a PS2 game. Edit: Oh guess they were just testing them out. Over now.
  14. Titanfall

I was a huge fanboy for all the original Infinity Ward CoDs, and this looks like it taps into the same pleasure centre while also having fucking wallruns and mechs, so yeah I'll shamelessly give West/Zampella my money even if it means EA gets a little more plump in the process. Edit: Their promise of no micro-transactions and the lack of pre-order bullshit goes a long way towards easing any moral misgivings I might have had.
  15. Gone Home from The Fullbright Company

I look forward to seeing Gone Home in the next Humble Audiobook Bundle! Haha sick burn. I find this very amusing.
  16. New people: Read this, say hi.

Hello everyone! Please stop registering now because I can't keep up with new posts any more. Thanks for understanding. (Not really though. Welcome.)
  17. Feminism

Man that is some even stick distribution on those skins. I mean, uh, feminism.
  18. The Idle Thumbs 10th Anniversary Committee

I've been following this whole saga since page 1 and that was just the most satisfying conclusion. Love how taken aback they all looked when their own portraits came out.
  19. anime

Chiming in late on recommendations: if you're looking for something slice of life-ish but you don't want to invest a lot of time, watch Eve No Jikan. Really though just watch it. It manages to be funny and heartfelt in a fraction of the time it takes some series just to get to the point of being watchable. Jesus, I stopped watching it somewhere in the teens because I decided there was too much filler and it was going nowhere fast. It's up to episode 88 now? Guess I dodged a bullet on that one. Still got one of the best goddamn OPs ever.
  20. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Well I finally listened to some Nils Frahm because everyone kept insisting on him and, okay, wow. Two technically amazing musicians I love did something together, which is usually a recipe for either greatness or overindulgence. Well, turns out it's pretty indulgent, luckily it's also pretty great.
  21. Whoa, you mean the No Man's Sky from the VGXes? Does it simulate drift when you're not accelerating/decelerating in a particular direction, like you could just idle and keep floating along? It never seems like 3D space combat games do this, I guess it's easier to represent your trajectory visually in 2D.
  22. subtlety in dialogue?

  23. Life

Sounds like something out of this.
  24. The first one is more neutral if you're trying to be more straight-laced about the objective slant, but the second one could be kind of funny since it reflects the way you pick and choose specific things to highlight in your reviews, like "you can heal critical damage by initiating an animation chosen semi-randomly from a pool which depict the player rectifying gruesome injuries, such as dislocated elbows or leg-embedded tree branches."
  25. What about a screenshot of the player staring at a map, or chugging malaria pills. Those are objectively pretty present.
