  1. Started this game yesterday, and I continue to love everything about this game. I appreciate that they are adding some interesting mechanics and obstacles in battle and that the breakdown of towns folk vs soldiers will actually matter.

I'm interested to see where the story goes, I lost my BS1 save so hopefully not too many choices ended up mattering too much.

    War Wagon 1

    very nice!

  3. Is anyone still playing this? I just picked it up on PC, sort of bummed because I need to grind to level 20 to join my friends in ranked.

I've been playing PUBG a lot recently and going back to a faster game seems crazy. Enjoying my time with the Operatives.

I saw that, and I think that might have been proof of a higher force controlling everything.

As for Ben, he has grown on me a bit more in the last few podcasts.

The E3 podcast with Austin Walker and the MBMBAM guys made me laugh a lot, Jeff Gerstmann did a great job of letting people talk. The woman in the new Star Wars Battlefront was in parts insightful, funny and veering into drunken idiocy (I liked it).

I thought Jeff killed it during the E3 night shows, I could not imagine taking 3-5 totally different people and interviewing them all at once and keeping it flowing and being entertaining.

Janina was great! Seeing someone so human kind of be the face for the game makes more interested in it, hah.

The yellow looks great! A yellow and green set would look spiffing, but they're pricey and superfluous to my needs. I got a cheapish 8bitdo FC30 Pro the other day so I'll be playing some 3-player MK8D over the summer. It works very nicely and cost about a third of a pro controller. Although that Splatoon version looks sexy.

The Tumbleseed post-mortem actually makes me more likely pick up the game at some point.

I was going to get a second FC30, but man those yellow ones do look very nice....

I just started playing Inside yesterday. I'm only about an hour in, and haven't been too frustrated by puzzles thus far. I am enjoying it but have to play in small sessions for it not to freak me out too much. I am very delicate! I will report back when finished and be able to respond to everyone who posted, as well as finally go back and finish the end of year Besties episode from 2016.

I'm glad I'm not the only person that couldn't play it in big chunks - there is one enemy in the game that really creeps me out hah.

I played a little bit of ARMS, and while it was fun, I'm not a huge fan of 1-on-1 multiplayer. Splatoon is a little different because it's team-based, but still, I get too stressed out by constantly losing.

I was super, super excited to see that 8bitdo controllers were updated with Switch support, as I own one of their incredible SNES bluetooth pads. It's one of the only third-party controllers that feels like an actual SNES controller, and I've been using it a bunch on my mac. It connects to my Switch just as easily as the pro controller, and has no noticeable input lag. I have gotten back into Shovel Knight as a result! It feels like some sort of magic, and I expect Nintendo to release a Switch update to patch out this functionality, but for the time being, wow.

Man, those are some snazzy controllers, looks like a pretty interesting alternative to the $70 pro controller!

Picking up Zelda again, I need to finish up with one dungeon and then on to Gannon, looking forward to wrapping it up.

I also beat Binding of Isaac for the first time yesterday on the train, that remains to be a weird game.

  8. Anyone playing anything recently? I picked up 7 Wonders: Duel which ahs been nice to break open, i also picked up the X-Wings Miniature game core sets to test out, looks interesting!

Yeah I saw they announced a Monster Hunter for Switch. It was obviously going to happen eventually, but I'm glad it finally has. Now I can play a Monster Hunter game with controls I won't hate! Or, more accurately, a controller I won't hate!

Oh man, it'll be my first Monster Hunter game - pretty excited!

It's definitely arrogance when someone refuses to take criticism at face value and instead reacts negatively to everything as if they can make no mistake.

It's definitely arrogance when someone tweets about their brother being a genius storyteller who, again, can make no mistakes. True, you can call this fraternal pride, but pride can only go so far before it turns.

I have no issue whatsoever with the self-indulgence (besides the fact that it can result in repetitive jokes (especially with Griffin...)), but arrogance is a real problem.

And the reason it's so surprising to me is because they openly admit to making mistakes early on, the most (in?)famous being when they trash-talked furries and later apologized for that. They've admitted fucking up regarding inclusivity across the spectrum, but always try to be better. That's great!

But when it comes to criticism about the quality of the things they create, they can be very defensive and unwilling to listen to criticism.

It no doubt also has a lot to do with the fact that they have so many fans willing to defend them to the end, no matter what, because the McElBoys are perfect and can make no mistakes gosh aren't they just the best everything they touch turns to diamond. I'm sure that can go to a person's head.

I say "they" a lot, but really I mostly mean Griffin... THIRTY UNDER THIRTY LUMINARY GRIFFIN MCELROY. It's a joke, and it's funny, but sometimes it feels like it's not a joke.

I need to repeat that I love the vast majority of what the brothers put out. Most of what I consume from them stars Griffin as the main brother, too. But they can be better.

    Travis is the best.

Yeah, I don't know to me it sounds like the arrogance is on the other foot here, I think it's kind of arrogant of the fan base to think their individual critiques or criticisms should be addressed by the boys. I'm sure they get criticism directed at them literally all the time via Twitter, I don't blame them for getting defensive at times.

I feel like there is a weird assumption that everyone creating content for the internet should be wholly receptive of criticism/feedback all the time. I don't think it's arrogant if Katy Perry doesn't respond to my last 100 tweets critiquing her latest single, why would I assume MBMBaM would be any different? The fact is they probably aren't super well equipped to handle their own popularity. I think part of the reason they are so popular is that they all wear their hearts on their sleeve which probably makes the popularity and criticism via social media pretty hard to deal with.

I don't think your criticisms are wholly off-base, they obviously come from someone who enjoys their content for the most part, but I'm not sure it's on them to try to please the world. I don't think TAZ is my thing anymore, but I wouldn't say it's arrogant for Griffin to continue what he is doing since there are obviously a ton of people that enjoy it. I don't think it's arrogant of Justin to tell the world how proud he is of his little brothers hard work, whether or not I agree with it.

  11. I don't follow all of their stuff, but I would probably argue that most content creationtm  is self-indulgent and it's usually made better for it because you generally want people creating content their passionate about (see Idle Thumbs and Important If True).

I can totally see arrogance being a driving force behind something @Patrick R describes, because I'm sure you get to a certain point and think "why should I work on this joke/this delivery when I know I'll hit it out of the park and people will love it?"

I'm all about creators getting buck wild about things they are into because at the end of the day it's up to the audience to decide if it's for them or not.

Looks like something I'd love to try but I don't have a mixer and doing it by hand seems like more effort than I can currently muster.

Yeah, that's my current predicament. There is a lot of baking I'd love to do, but I'm hesitant to spend the $250 for a stand mixer.

    @root your pretzels look dope!

  13. It's kind of awesome how much the dynamic changes when going from solo -> a group.

I spent ~5 hours with a random guy on my friends list on Saturday and had a super awesome time, I am a bad duo player though. I am way more brash when I know I have a partner but when I am playing solo I rarely fire my gun unless I know it will be a kill and I'll be able to escape. Hell, in the solo game I won I only killed 3 people. I think I've only killed ~12 people over 6 or so hours because i rarely fire my gun, I'd rather be sneaky and work on my positioning so if it comes to a gun fight I'll have an upper hand.

    You're the devil.

Learning how easy and cheap it is to make fresh, awesome bread has been very difficult for me and my carb intake, hah!

Ah, it was indeed a box. What made it memorable is that Morrowind doesn't guide you towards things with easy signposting, compasses or arrows. In Skyrim or any other modern open world game, you just follow the glowing icons that guide you towards doors and objects of note. Not so in Morrowind or earlier RPG's.

For the Dwemer puzzle box quest, you are first pointed in roughly the right direction to find a Dwemer citadel in the mountains. Then, upon finding it, it's a dark and unwelcoming affair filled with bandits. The puzzle box is a tiny little gewgaw located in a non-descript piece of furniture on a difficult-to-get-to floor, and there's nothing that tells you it is there. You just have to scour the whole dungeon, and I for one didn't luck into it until way long into the affair.

Now, it's not that this is particularly good game design. I'm just pointing out that for these reasons - and people might well become frustrated at this quest - the Dwemer puzzle box is a memorable achievement to find, it's something that many Morrowind players will wistfully look back upon and think: 'Goddamn, that was hard. But I was so happy when I found it.' That would never have happened if the thing had had a glowing quest marker steering you inevitably towards it.

Oh god, I remember searching for that damn thing for hours and never finding it.

I am so tempted to reinstall it and boot it up for nostalgia's sake. That game really takes me back to a very specific time and place in my life.

On MBMBAM earlier this year they claimed they were going to become fushigi art patrons. I'm pretty sure they actually set aside ~$400 as incentive.

I love that somewhere someone gets to write off $500 for 'Fushigi Art Patronage' as a work expense.

I hope so too. I tried some rounds yesterday and though it was super easy to go online and play with random strangers, I had a tougher time setting something up with friends, without (I don't think at least) some rudimentary messaging system. Also: the individual Joy-Con are a pain to play with. It's not impossible, but it's quite uncomfortable for a game that requires quick reflexes and generally features a lot of frantic mayhem and jerking movements. Nintendo, hurry up with a colored/themed Pro Controller!

In other news, Breath of the Wild got patched and now you can choose different language subtitles for your game! So we can finally play the Japanese version with English/Dutch/Whatever subs! Nice of them to patch that in. Details of the first DLC pack have also been released, but it's not very interesting. The Cave of Trials will probably be fun, but also not what I'm playing the game for, and the higher difficulty setting might be fun as well, but the fighting is probably not engrossing enough to make that worth it. I'm expecting more from the second pack, which will feature additional story content.

Man, I'd love just a button I could hit to Spam all of my Mario Kart playing friends that I have a room open and looking for players, very frustrating its so bare bones. Otherwise the actual online functionality has been pretty good for me, I've read reports of disconnects from a lot of people though.

Also, I agree about the uncomfortableness of the Joy Cons. I bought a 2 pack of the joy-con wheels hoping that would ease our cramping hands, but it seems like the shoulder button paddles on all of those things are terrible so it takes a lot of force to actually use the shoulder buttons. I have huge hands and find the joy-cons to be OK, but my wife has tiny hands and she really gets uncomfortable after a few races weirdly enough. I might actually just pick up an elite controller for her to play with since she's enjoying herself quite a bit.
