Is anyone else experimenting with the behavior tree system? It seems very powerful, but the complete lack of documentation is making things difficult.

I've been thinking the same thing. Do it!

You might already have considered this option, but Pure Data lets you to create a sine wave in about fifteen seconds. I haven't tried it and it might be difficult, but the people who made FRACT OSC managed to integrate it with Unity: http://fractgame.com/news/127-fract-audio-tech-connecting-to-pure-data

Pretend I don't know the first thing about making games
bakelite replied to Architecture's topic in Game Development
I switched from Unity to Unreal when they released UE4 and have no regrets. More features, prettier graphics, better performance, and the new visual scripting language significantly reduces the learning curve if you have no programming experience. Epic is also very transparent and communicative, which has not been my experience with Unity. -
Resolution-independent UI is essential. I have a 2560x1440 monitor, but I'm occasionally forced to play at 1920x1080 to make text readable. This will be an even bigger problem in the not so distant future when resolutions will range from 1080 to 4K.

I got a rowing machine last month. It's great, I can watch TV and work out at the same time.

As I understand it you still need to give them their 5%, that's where the real money is. I've been playing around with it for a few hours, did some tutorials. Blueprint is quite nice, reminds me of Max and Pure Data except the end result isn't a horrible squealing noise.

All true, but the $56/month price difference will probably be the deciding factor for a lot of beginners who haven't invested hundreds of hours into learning Unity scripting.
-
Very tempting, I wonder how/if Unity will respond.

Will Tone Control continue to be a podcast in the future? I notice that there are no further scheduled episodes.

Path of Exile: It's pretty much a Diablo 2 sequel, but it's not Diablo 3!
bakelite replied to Niyeaux's topic in Video Gaming
True and true. I've "only" played the game four about 15 hours, and while I'm currently having a great time with my less than optimized ranger it could get unplayable later on. I hope not. I could always accumulate enough loot to trade a few dozen orbs of regret, but spending a fortune on respeccing instead of new gear is definitely not fun. Now that you got me thinking about it, I have to agree that it's a poor design decision. -
I really liked the first two books, but book three was just too emotionally draining. He's really big over here, but I don't think I've ever talked to anyone who's actually finished all six volumes.

That's assuming that having a perfectly optimized character is all you care about. I actually enjoy trying to live with my mistakes and work around the idiotic choices I made twenty levels ago, but I guess I'm in the minority. -
Dont get discouraged. I started learning Unity about a year ago, having no previous programming experience except some basic web stuff. The first six-seven months were extremely frustrating, I had to consult Google for every little thing and even rage-uninstalled a few times, but once I reached the point where I started spending more time working than learning I discovered that coding can actually be fun.

There are Orbs of Regret that let you respec one skill point, but they're quite rare. You really need to plan ahead. -

Stalker taught me that vodka cures radiation poisoning and that bread and sausages constitute a healthy diet.

I have the Define R4 and couldn't be happier. Quiet, easy to work with and the design is so simple that you barely notice it. Just a black box.

DayZ has taught me to read Cyrillic on the level of a chimp. I don't know what it actually means, but I know that a particular group of symbols means that I'm nearing Berezino. Where's my banana?

I just revisited Stalker: SoC for the first time since it was originally released, vastly improved with the Complete mod. 84 additional campfire songs! Unfortunately I was too greedy and got the worst possible ending. I'm currently about an hour into Call of Pripyat with the Misery mod, which turns it into a kind of single-player DayZ. I was torn apart by wild dogs within two minutes. Lovely.

The amount of clicking you have to do decreases dramatically once you get the statues that gather belief from nearby houses. I found the first two or three hours quite tedious, but now I'm six hours in and really enjoying it.
