Hmm, do I want After Burner... Altered Beast can get lost, but has anyone got experience with either of the Fantasy Zones? Is it worth getting one?

Modest Tech: The NX Generation (Nintendo Switch)
dartmonkey replied to dartmonkey's topic in Video Gaming
Same here. I don't have enough time to play games once! But that means there are loads of games from the past 3 or so years that I never got to. Switch Editions would be very welcome. Firewatch Switch, baby! Fireswitch! Fireswatch? -
Modest Tech: The NX Generation (Nintendo Switch)

I just read this little article on Eurogamer and it very much sums up my experience so far. That bit where he's talking about a 'home portable'...it's almost as if he was grasping for that one, perfect word... #homeheld Obviously it's not a perfect system but it fits very comfortably with the way I want to play games at this stage of life. It's unobtrusive, fun and instant. It's allowed me to play around 80% more Zelda than if I'd been tied to a TV. Most importantly, it's got sexy controller colours. I've no idea how it'll do. I was talking to some teenagers about consoles yesterday and the PS4/Xbone tribalism was shocking to me. I don't think Switch stands a chance with that demographic, and it's probably a bit too complicated for younger kids. But for thirtysomething fans of video games, it's a winner. Right now I'm genuinely excited because I know I can squeeze in 30 mins of Zelda over lunch! Not a couple of games of Picross or Solitaire or Fire Emblem on my phone - full fat Zelda! It's definitely the best time to be playing video games. -

It was a "we'll see" from J-Blow back when it was still NX, and wishful thinking from me now I'd love to be able to take the Witness in the bus. -
I'll give them a try then. Thanks for the feedback.

I've got my fingers crossed for The Witness. I've already got Snipperclippers(?) which is bitesize fun for 2-players. Otherwise, Yooka-Laylee will be my next big one. Although right now I'm in an unusual Zen zone where I think I'd be happy with Zelda for several months. Maybe that'll wear off. -
I got a Steam Link for £16 and, predictably, my current set-up can't really handle it over wireless. PC issues aside, does anyone have any experience with those powerline Ethernet adaptors? I'd be using 3 (my router, TV and PC are all separated) and I wouldn't mind making one of them a wireless extender too (wifi is patchy on some devices in the living room.) I was eyeing up these. Any advice/recommendations?

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild: open your eyes and die a lot

There's zero reason they shouldn't patch in touch for menu screens on Wii U or Switch portable mode. It would make crafting and weapon selection (and dropping) much quicker. There would still be parity. Everyone wins. I don't get the reasoning. Touch works on Switch for the console menus without them mentioning it - what's the difference with Zelda? -

I just did it by accident and a tip popped up to tell me how. Jump with a shield readied and press A in midair. -

I just got 3 and a half hours playing Zelda on a bus at minimum brightness with headphones. I had flight mode on, which turns off wireless controllers. Not bad. -

For me, several hours in, it's simply open world without the jank. Open world with Zelda polish. No need to forgive shitty things because of the scale/scope. I just rode through a trio of wild horses and they started galloping with me. -

First horse names? Mine's Dobbins, noble grey steed. Mr Tibbles was one character too many. -

For nearly 4 hours this morning, I am that guy on the plane (train actually) from the promo video. I am the Switch wanker. Bow before me. Seriously, it's pretty great so far. I lied when I said I was only getting a screen protector - I got the official case thing that came with a protector too. I'd recommend it. It's understated, carries a few carts and acts as a stand too. A much better angle than the kickstand. I've even managed to balance the Switch on the power cable, on the stand. If that makes sense. There's enough grip on the back to keep it upright unless the train's shaking. Also, I'm finding the joycon grip invaluable. Pokemon Go gave me a serious case of dodgy thumb which I've hadn't for a few months. Using the grip is far more comfortable than going commando. -

It's so small! And these 'neon' colours please me. -
I finally finished Oracle of Ages! Which means I've finished the Seasons/Ages duo. Which means I've finally played every mainline Zelda! Four Swords Adventure doesn't count, right? Please say no! These two were a slog. Constantly pausing to switch out inventory items was an absolute ballache. There were some good moments and interesting ideas that came from linking the two games but going back to these after Link Between Worlds is tough. I bludgeoned through the last few dungeons with a walkthrough. I'm happy to have ticked them off, especially in time for that Breadth of the Wind thingy, but I won't be revisiting them. Done. *checks eBay for Four Swords Adventure*

Had to be done. What day one accessories are people getting? Screen protector only for me - anything else would require selling an organ. -

I'm reasonably confident I'll be able to pick one up on Friday here in Spain, but it's tough to gauge the interest. They're running TV spots but in-store promo is limited to piles of empty console boxes. I saw six Mini NESs in Media Markt last week. -
My dodgy Wii U analogue came courtesy of my cat. Git. Nuts to shelves - you need some sort of console carousel for all those! Or various islands set up around the room...

On the subject of Zelda reviews, it seems Famitsu have tabulated their four reviews and discovered their first ever 41/40! 😉 -

This, and also time restrictions. My mind can't handle a backlog building up of stuff I'll definitely play in the future - I'd rather get in early and ride along. I miss out on so much on PC as it is. Switch being portable will feel like a lifesaver. But I'm an idiot. From what I've read, there's a gap in the market for a (tiny) plastic cradle to sit the screen in, to improve tabletop stability and add a pass through connector allowing you to charge in tabletop mode. That'll be 25€, thankyouverymuch. -

Kind of 'putting it into hibernation'. Metroid is an acclaimed series with vocal fans but I suppose the sales numbers don't match up so it's been put on ice for years. Realistically Zelda might need several duds to be at risk, but it's never sold Mario numbers.
