Wake Me Up Before You IndieGoGo: A Crowdfunding Thread
Dewar replied to tegan's topic in Idle Banter
Hmm, I've never heard of Polybius before. -
So, for whatever reason the Cottonwoods around my area have been shedding a lot more fuzz than I remember in the past. It's getting to the point where it's a couple of inches deep in some areas, and just generally looks nasty. I was sitting on my deck the other day looking at a deep tuft in the corner and I had the brilliant idea to try and light it on fire. I don't know what I expected, either quick and gone like flash paper or a slow smolder I guess. Man that stuff lit up so fast it burned the hair off my knuckles and it roared high enough to be seriously worrying for about 5 seconds. My conclusions were: 1) That was really dumb 2) If someone throws a cigarette out into our parking lot right now, the whole complex could burn down

Proceduraly generated levels would be the best. I've been watching some high-end Long War play and it disappoints me that so much on high difficulties revolves around memorizing the maps and knowing all the best places to stand.

Release day is today! 1.0 has been pushed out on Steam and the final team stream starts shortly!

The thing that's most hilarious about this is that they still have the wrist strap on. By that logic, shouldn't the regular controller have a wrist strap as well? How about the Wii-U gamepad?

Twin Peaks Rewatch 31: Fire Walk With Me
Dewar replied to Jake's topic in Twin Peaks Rewatch Episodes
I personally think the film is much more valuable if Leland is responsible, so I'm probably seeing only the angles on the discussion that make this true, but I don't find anything in this paragraph that necessarily implies that Bob is in control. It has been my impression that Bob isn't capable of subtlety at all, that he is basically the id doing what he wants, when he wants, and any sense of subtlety is Leland's fear of getting caught (or resistance to doing wrong) that holds back Bob. I'd also like to point out that shifting back and forth between apologizing and domineering is actually a trait of real abusers. "Losing control" and then apologizing afterwards is one factor that's kept people in abusive relationships long after they should have gotten out of there. On the other side of the coin, I interpret Bob ripping the blood out of Leland as him taking the memories of pain and suffering, ripping them out, and handing them over to replace the stolen creamed corn. Thus, I'm of the opinion that Leland doesn't necessarily remember the murder during the TV series, and that makes his revelations while dying on the prison floor make more sense. Just because he doesn't remember them doesn't make him not culpable though. -
Windows 10: "It wouldn't be right to call it Windows 9."
Dewar replied to Urthman's topic in Idle Banter
There's the new not-internet-explorer rolling out with Win10 as well. I have a surface that I plan on updating to Windows 10 if they make it fairly painless. I think I'll stick on Win7 for my primary machine for a little bit yet. -
Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I got to the point where I could fairly regularly make it to the boss, but only ever beat once. I decided the boss was not fun, and uninstalled the game. -
This last time, I was generally indecisive, running around try to attract attention, and I hacked a camera drone to make sure I really needed to go through that room. No screen shots unfortunately. I always forget the sprint is there though, so that might have been a good trick to keep in mind.

Dammit, I missed entering in my qualifier predictions into the compendium. I need a news feed or something to tell me when new things are added.

Hmm, so I'm running into a wall on experienced. In the second mission (so I have no option to have picked up any meaningful new equipment) there are rooms that have 3 people patrolling through them. This has happened three times in a row, and those rooms must be traveled through because the exit is behind them. I have no idea how to deal with this situation. I end up hanging around trying to figure out a gap in their patrol patterns until it is too late and more guards start to spawn and I eventually have to retire.

I welcome the robot overlords if they have that cute accent.

i guess I think differently than a lot of people out there, because when I see a Kickstarter with a small budget, I think "they're not possibly going to be able to deliver with only that much cash, I'm not risking it."

To be fair, I mostly just script in PowerShell or noodle around in Unity on my spare time. I'm not really the person these tests are aimed at.

My impression is that we can detect them in advance and then get a lot of pretty pictures as they crash into the planet.

I've learned that over the last few years my ability to straight up write code by hand in notepad correctly has gone the way of my spelling skills. I rely too much on tools to correct the misprints and suggest the particular commands I need. Regarding the modulus operator, I rarely use it myself. Even in active coding, I've made one by hand instead of using the built in operator because I forget it exists. if (Convert.ToInt32(x/3) == x/3) {

There was a trailer for San Andreas on Youtube and it feels crazy to me that people make disaster movies about things that are likely to happen, as opposed to sharknado or asteroids hitting or whatever. (Yes I realize an asteroid hitting us is possible, but not probable and not many folks are going to be around to complain after.) It seems like those type of movies are doomed to never show again as soon as an earthquake actually hits California. Then I followed that reasoning on to other movies that have terrorism, or criminal violence, or big wars in them. I don't typically watch those sorts of movies, but then I followed that onto all the war games I've played and I guess I've been left perplexed by the whole thing. I guess I'd rather shoot at space ships, aliens, or zombies than play modern war games anymore. *shrug* Long and ramble-y, but I feel weird now.

Will I need a wake scanner thing (so is the enemy likely to run?)

*dances* I just finally managed my first orbital intercept and rescue! Man, the first time I did that a couple of years ago I was going crazy with excitement. It still has that effect on me today.

Hmm, how's the commentary on the qualifiers?

I tossed away my mining lasers for a set of cannons and jumped into a war zone for a mission last night. I had a lot of fun and really felt like I was giving my stick a good workout. I even got to use my practiced "boost, go silent, eject heat sink, and pray" technique to actual effect. Now my next Imperial advancement mission is an assassination. I have no idea how to even go about doing that type of mission, and most of the info I can find out there about it is from last year. Is most of that advice still good, or has the assassination process changed over the last six months?

5000 troll comments hmm? So now it's scientists that are crapping up the internet.

A Dedicated Thread For Talking About Star Trek Episodes

I think the part when it's escaping as the other ship falls into its maw and blows up? It's been a while since I've seen the episode. -

The collecting and leveling up aspect is the primary exception i guess. In most JRPGs, you have a set list of characters, planned levels and equipment for each area, etc. You have a lot more agency on what your combat team looks like in Pokemon, so it appeals to both people that are interested in mechanics and people who are interested in traditional JRPGs. I happen to be a little bit of both, so it's great.
