Easy should change the Xenomorph to "Goofy Deleted Scenes Xenomorph."

The whole of the segment is about the family being haunted by the ghosts of their Tracey Ullman selves, ending with this bit: Lisa: "I just had a worrisome thought. If there can be two incarnations of The Simpsons, why couldn't some evil marketing entity produce millions of others?" John Ratzenberger as CG faux-claymation Homer: "All right Simpsons, welcome to our new home!" CG faux-claymation Santa's Little Helper: "Yo yo, Santa's Little Helper is in da house!" And then all the others start showing up. I assume that the CG faux-claymation Simpsons would be either the "soulless CG movie" Simpsons ala "anime" Simpsons, or maybe Pixar since it's John Ratzenburger.

Isn't this kind of a loaded question, since we'd be "proving it right" by disagreeing with it?

Young Frankenstein is more of an original story than a shot-for-shot parody like Dead and Loving It is. I guess it's mostly drawing from Son of Frankenstein, but still.

I'm going to try to work "paint-huffing shitgoblins" into my daily vocabulary now.

That article exaggerates somewhat (especially the stuff about it being "the size of a puppy") and makes it sound like the spider is a new discovery and not something we've known about for years. Also, it kind of bugs me in general when people talk about keeping arthropods or reptiles as pets and some asshole inevitably interjects with "not me! I'd step on it as soon as I saw it!" or something similar. That's someone's pet you're talking about. You wouldn't tell someone how much you'd want to run over their dog, have some respect. A few months back, Brad Shoemaker had to make a post on his tumblr (which is mostly about his guinea pigs) to get people to stop telling him that guinea pigs are edible, because it was just getting increasingly creepy and unwanted.

my other favourite thing is that they layered the lego family wrong

I thought that too. Plus, apart from their costumes, the anime family look just like Simpsons characters with slightly larger eyes whereas the others fully adopt a distinct style specific to the source material. Just make them all fucking Sailor Scouts or something, geez. An aside: I thought it was weird that almost every family had a Santa's Little Helper but none of them had a Snowball II, then I realized that Snowball II hasn't appeared on the show at all since 2011 (2010 if you don't count Treehouse of Horror), and has only made ten appearances since replacing the original Snowball II ten years ago.

Anyone here keep any plants? I've been getting really into buying and caring for houseplants lately for some reason. Right now I have... Mass Cane (top left): There use to be a smaller one in there too. This is my oldest plant, I got it when I lived back in Miramichi. It suffered greatly when I lived in a tiny apartment with no light, but I moved up to this nice well-lit space, started watering the hell out of it, and just recently repotted it; and now it's really sprung back to life. It only had about five leaves by the time I brought it up here, so I'd call that a huge turnaround. I'd like to get another large plant like this. Dwarf Umbrella Plant (top right): I like the look of this plant even if I don't know much about it. I keep it next to my drawing space. Hopefully I'm not neglecting it. Money Tree (bottom left): these can get to be pretty big, but mine's small. I hope those trunks don't come too unbraided as it grows. Venus Flytrap (bottom right): I just got this one. It's teeny tiny and holy crap are these things delicate. I didn't realize just how fragile they were when I bought it. They can only live in very specific nutrient-poor soil. You can't fertilize them and you need to use distilled water or else they'll absorb too much garbage and die. I noticed earlier today that mine had wilted and thought that I had accidentally killed it, but it sprang right back up wihin a half-hour or so after I watered it and even caught some of the fruit flies that have been bothering me. I'm going to try to pick up some freeze-dried bloodworms for it at a pet store tomorrow. <- green thumbs

I just watched Treehouse of Horror XV. It opens with a montage of clips from every previous Treehouse of Horror and ends with a parody of The Others where The Simpsons are haunted by the ghosts of their Tracey Ullman selves. It's like the entire special was designed to remind you how much better the show used to be. But hey, at least it has Lisa reminding the audience that snow only happens when it's cold.

Really great look at something that's bugged me for a while: the "sameface syndrome" that every female animated character in the past decade or so seems to suffer from. Also briefly touches on the weird initialization inherent to the de facto "female" design. One thing I've actually been considering doing for the last few months is gathering up the character sheets from the entire Bruce Timm era of the DCAU and seeing if anyone besides Amanda Waller, Big Barda, and Red Claw were even identifiable if you just stacked them all and set layers to multiply.

There are six ways for North Americans to get the ORAS demo, none of which are "just go to the eshop and download it because it's 2014."

I don't use twitter, so it was extremely jarring to see that GG somehow even got on the nerves of Kate Leth, who as far as I know mentions maybe one game a year.

I choose to believe that the inexplicable belts on Kaiba's arms are a result of him being some kind of horrible junkie. EDIT: http://gifsound.com/?gif=i.imgur.com/VZb8q59.gif&v=BfuWXRZe9yA

True story: adult lions pretend to be injured when their cubs play-fight with them. Lions are the embarassing-dads-who-act-out-over-drawn-death-sequences-when-their-kids-shoot-them-with-finger-guns of the animal kingdom.

The only times I ever really got into this was The Incredibles, where the opening interview segment is filmed in 4:3 but the rest of the movie is 16:9. It was a deliberate choice to bring the audience in first as an observer and then as a participant (note also that the public identities of the characters in the interviews are the opposite of their real identities in the film: Bob wants to settle down, Helen wants to stay a superhero, Frozone is a ladies' man). The Simpsons Movie does a similar thing to transition the characters from TV to film characters. Not at all related to games: The Incredibles does a lot of really rad stuff with the way that it's filmed that anyone interested in filmography should really look into. My favourite is the way Bob's office is shot: to give it a flat boring look, the camera was pulled back the equivalent of something like a mile and then zoomed in like a sniper scope instead of just positioning it where you'd think it would be. It's a static version of the effect used for the Jaws vertigo shot.
