Kidz of War Dragon Age: Kidquisition -
i don't know where to put this, but it the most cyberpunk thing i've heard in a minute. bunch of pals were down in brooklyn for the big punk fest, and there is this new operation called PHROSTIES. they're like alcoholic slurpees, rumored (and furiously denied) to contain codeine. you order them by messaging the operation on instagram, and they'll deliver them anywhere in ny, 24 hours a day.

They're also taking in thousands of calories post workout. (elite athlete and olympians can get in the 8-10k range) I second everything in the post! everyone should hit the weights! I WISH you could accidentally get all muscular.

"ergo frustra affectant" according to google, though translated back it means "Therefore, they strive in vain" which is pretty good. -

I've been working out regularly for years, with the personal goal of getting kind of built. I started at 5'11 175, and my goal was to work up to a leanish 200, though i've leveled off around 190. I'm in good shape for 37, but not great, and my workout is pretty basic. It sounds like you overdid it. Rest can't be under rated. A good workout tears muscle fibers and they need time to heal. I lift every other day, Mon/Wed/Sat. I wish I did cardio twice a week, but I usually only get once, on Sundays. Nutrition is also a critical part of this, and I strongly opposing "dieting." This is a great site to check out exercise forms: http://www.exrx.net/Exercise.html This is my routine, it takes 30-45 minutes:

Idle Thumbs 154: Super Good
feelthedarkness replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I think you could probably jump off a modern era where pushing "technology" in a pure unrestrained manner doesn't actually work (super) great for majority of your citizenry. Moral application of technology is great, and cool consumer devices are fun, but at the same time many modern tech/internet companies have a handful of employees and massive sums of wealth distorting the world around them and extracting labor's value in the chain. A pure "tech" planet might have a handful of super wealthy, and extremely well defended people, but also a potentially dangerous slave race, and at the same time a populist approach could leave you short in certain areas of expertise. -

Also, a pretty wild reversal from the original vibe, where the horde represented a kind of populist multiculturalism, compared to the shining aristocracy of the alliance. -

I totally understand the complaint or concern over "Indie Gaming" pigeon holing itself in a type of twee narrative, and as much as I enjoy the work of Wes Anderson, I also see the drawback of the cutesyness when it becomes the sole form. Or more to the point, when there really isn't anything being said beyond a stylistic abstraction. On the other hand I agree with Pigeon that KR0 nails it as a sophisticated and literate narrative, avoiding that trap. (If only because their thing isn't about an innocent kid) -

To what extent is the mechanical treatment, the lightness, the sore spot here? If I can trot out an old chestnut, there is a certain irony in pointing a finger at a game where you play what amounts to a genocidal maniac for casually evoking the imagery of genocide. Unity of Command, Panzer General and countless other strategy games have positioned you as either the Wehrmacht or Stalin's forces. I've always felt a little uneasy about that aspect, because you're asked to perform the actual acts seemingly stripped of ideology, but I don't quite feel the same about Luftrausers. It's interesting to me that I'm more concerned about people experiencing the mechanical act rather than just trafficking in the symbolism, but I guess some people have the reverse issue. -

I think there are some hairs to be split where your references speak the intent of referenced work, compared to popular internet memes and Family Guy, which seem to just acknowledge existence. Also, the two Umberto Eco books are so soaked in reference I kind of need wikipedia open to make heads or tails of some chapters. -
ADVENTUREGAMERS UNITE! IT'S TIM SCHAFER YALL
feelthedarkness replied to Steve's topic in Tone Control Episodes
Yeah, that was really fascinating. Also, that glimpse into the ever present corporate mindset of not realizing the value in the thing you have, vs the thing it might be more profitable. I had always thought the LA games sold better than I guess they did. This probably speaks more to my own preferences but I feel like it's an easy call to say all the non-star wars (excepting Tie Fighter) games are more valuable than any of the LA SW games. Also, for TSiaG, every game he's worked on is worth playing. Not a dud in the lot. I would just start at the beginning and go through. I also really liked the exploration of adventure games as concepts, and the idea of being perpetually stuck. I loved Broken Age, but I think it was a little lighter than it needed to be in terms interaction. I understand the reservations, but there is some real value in puzzles being more than square peg in square hole.- 25 replies

I'll also add my voice to the "promote J Mintz to full time" crowd, if she even wants that. har har. She's smart, funny, and a good talker, but more importantly as a pro reviewer she's guaranteed to bring something to the table each week besides Spelunky & Dota 2 (1 luv). Get some of that O.G. Thumb journalistic spirit back in the mix! -

RIP comedy. You had a good run. -
A friend of mine made copy of the Dune game to not ruin his copy from the 70s, and used this place to print out new cards: http://www.artscow.com/photo-gifts/playing-cards/playing-cards-54-designs-313 I'm sure there are plenty of place that do this, but it's only $12 for a custom deck.

A Dedicated Thread For Talking About Star Trek Episodes
feelthedarkness replied to BigJKO's topic in Movies & Television
I'm not so charitable! I think the TV series handled it better in terms of showing his capacity for rage, but ultimately enlightenment and reason were core values he defined himself by, and causes worth fighting for. I think it's a cynical product of popular media to embrace the idea that human nature is violence and vengeance. Also, to really marginalize myself, I think all the Next Gen movies are really bad and undermine the spirit of the show, but I kind of like Generations best. I think it's almost fixable if there were a director's cut. -
A Dedicated Thread For Talking About Star Trek Episodes
feelthedarkness replied to BigJKO's topic in Movies & Television
I'm willing to cut way deeper, the TNG movies, and the Borg Queen in general undercut what makes Star Trek generally compelling, and they never came back from it. Picard is a thoughtful man who will try to save an entity that only wants to kill people, in an effort to respect life's diversity, and the movies turn him into a guy swinging on ropes, shooting a machine gun, and doing sick off roading hot rod jumps. The whole power of the borg is decentralization, the fear is in that you can't cripple them with a well placed blow. The only reason to have a queen is to make a silly action movie. Also, while I'm being a sourpuss the entirety of Enterprise is boring and irredeemable. I remember being so disappointed in Season 1, and Carbon Creek, the S2 premier is actually pretty good and I thought it turned around, but it doesn't, outside of a minor uptick in S3. -

As a member of this pro-social justice community I also welcome it's expansion, luckily for the others the internet offers plenty of places to not have to hear from or about women. I'm also enjoying the South Park game despite not really liking the show, and have had a few good juvenile laughs. I think Parker and Stone started off as a critical satire, but a few years ago made that weird left turn so hard that they wound up being libertarians. It's probably the end result of an "everything is equally bad" approach. -

I say this with no snark: Go to a thrift store, amazon, or ebay and buy whatever technics they have. With turntables it's basically: 1) whatever 2) Technics 1200s for djs ($600ish) 3) big dawg time ($$$$ (i like Rega))- 141 replies

Racism also requires a power structure, where the oppressed really can't be "racist" against the oppressor. It's a world where a white person can take the life of a black person in self defense, but the opposite is never true. It's the unfortunate situation Daisy winds up in. She's entitled to her rage, but portrayed as a maniac (note, killing children is wrong, but lets assume in this world that her children are killed without anybody taking notice). It's a disappointment for sure.

Also, not to derail but I think part of the Google/Motorolla thing was Google both fishing for some missing link ground zero touch screen patent to fight off Apple in the great smartphone lawsuit war of 2011/whenever, or to just leverage Moto's tens of thousands of patents as existing tech.

This is such a strange test case on so many levels. As a crowdfunded project that hasn't quite finished I can understand backers feeling bad vibes, even though they are explicitly not investors. I be a good lawyer could make a case out of that though. Facebook seems like a not-great choice, but I also can't see OR scaling production or reaching a wide market without a serious backer. Few 3rd party peripherals ever catch on in a broad way as it is.
